View Full Version : Qwiksand's 2006 Titans Franchise

I decided to start my first franchise with the Titans. I wanted tio strart with 'garbage with a glimmer of hope'and since the 49ers are my favorite team and awful, I didn't want to use them. The Titans are just as bad so I chose them.
I signed Ty Law to beef up the secondary and made a few created players in the 70s. We have a $53.79 payroll and $31.71 cap room. I will have a website up once the regular season starts. Here are the position battles (rookie):
WR1 Callico / Nardella
TE Kinney / Troupe
LE Odom / Schobel

DT Haynesworth / Starks

any big position battle upsets?
What was your reasoning for signing Ty Law, are you making a run at the playoffs? He is an expensive pickup.
QwikSand

I was just writing this as you posted. Most of the winners of the position battles were upsets which are in bold:
QB McNair
WR2 Nardella
TE Troupe
LE Odom
RE Goldberg
DT Starks
MLB Calmus
CB Jones
I signed Ty Law as part of the rebuilding phase, because with his experience and ratings, he will be a good mentor to the young CBs I have now. I feel the price was worth it since I have PLENTY of cap room. You'll see in one of the next posts that he gets injured and a rookie will be starting for the next 6 weeks since I am simming the games right now and compling the stats.

As was mentioned, we had some pretty big upsets in the position battles. We're excited to see some of our newer players playing hard from the start. I got this email from the owner this morning:
"First off, I wanted to welcome you to the organization. I know it may be a little early since the ink is still drying, but signing on the line was the first step in the progression of our team.
I noticed you are already getting your hands dirty in the evaluating and management of our players. I just passed Ty Law in the hallway and he seems to be happy to be here. Good move. A player of his calliber and with his experience could only help our young secondary. Also I see you brought in some homegrown young talent at some prominent positions. You must have some pretty good faith to bring so many rookies in. I trust your judgement though, you wouldn't be here if I didn't.
We have had a lot of fan support in the past but lately it has been waning. I know we will get that back. One thing we have managed well is our salary cap. We still have room to make some more adjustments right away if we need to.
In closing, I have high hopes for the team, and I know you do as well. I will leave the big decisions in your hands as I know you are capable. thanks for coming aboard.
Phil McCracken"
That's comforting to know he has confidence in me. Here's hoping we can turn this franchise around. We're starting with fan support of 78%, a prestige of 60% and approval rating of 29% with McNair as our sole icon. Let's start the climb...

whos nardella and what did he do to win the spot?

He's a friend I created. I honestly don't know why he won the spot but that's who the game chose. I posted all of the stats above and they're a little less than Calico's. They each had a touchdown but Calico had 60 more yards, however Nardella had zero drops and Calico had 3. Maybe they felt his sure hands got him the job?

that's the plan, to go for youth with potential. I am still learning a lot about the 'upsides' and attributes that don't change and what to look for so it'll take a few drafts to get it right.

So, we made it through the preseason undefeated and injury free. If it gets to be too easy I will adjust the sliders accordingly. For now, I just wanna have fun with it and get used to it. Here is the progression report from the end of preseason (** rookies):

It looks like Volek got his wish for playing time, although not a start. McNair must have been benched or knocked out of the game. He's not listed as injured, however Ty Law Fractured his Upper Arm and is out for 7 weeks. This is bad news since he was a costly free agent, however it will give one of our top rookies, Adam Jones, a chance to shine in that role. I'll keep tabs on how he does.

Volek is complaining again. McNair's not doing too well but as long as we win he will start. Well, we were plagued with injuries this week. C Hartwig's high ankle strain will keep him out for 3 weeks, WR Roby is out for the season with a broken wrist and RT Roos's sprained elbow will sideline him for 3 weeks. Our prestige has raised from 60% to 70%, fan support from 78% to 89% and approval rating from 29% to 34%. We're on the right track. Our luxury boxes were $500 below the league average so we adjusted to match.

McNair seems to barely get over 100 yds a game plus throws a lot of INTs. I am benching him and going with Volek who has zero ints so far. Jones seems to be stepping up in his CB as a rookie with Law going down to injury. He has an INT in both games so far. Our fan support has risen from 89% to 98% and approval from 34% to 38%. We're still going in the right direction.

Well, the Volek experiment didn't work, so it's back to McNair. There was an injury to our RG Olson 10 weeks for broken ribs. Not good. That's 5 guys on the mend. Hopefully our backups/rookies can step up and keep us afloat.

We lost to the Chargers in the first round who went on to the Super Bowl then lost to the Eagles 31-17. Still a very good season in my book. We went from 2nd worst team in the league to a much better team with some rookies that progressed well.
Bennett, Troupe, vg Qwiksand, Woolfolk and Pacman Jones were all named to the Pro Bowl. That's all it says in the team info, I don't know how to see if anyone else was named as well.

Yes, Bennett is nasty and quite underated for the attributes that he has which are impressive across the board.
In the offseason we didn't make any free agent signings. We are trying to go with youth as much as possible. And speaking of youth, here is our 2006 rookie class, getting a C+ draft grade overall from Mel Kiper Jr:

It probably feels that since you're already a 99 you don't need to improve much. I've noticed that in ther simmed games your guys barely gets any tackles or anything. I use him whenever possible. It's hard to use a defenseive back like you would a lineman or linebacker since mainly you just switch to them when the ball is in the air. But if you keep getting a +1 every time, it'll add up :) I decided to change you to a LE since I had a great backup CB and you are getting WAY more action as you'll see in the following posts.

Well we finally lost. And it wasn't good. It was like the sliders went up 50 instead of 3. The backup qb actually had a 25 yd td run, and we were averaging not much more than that for the season per game. Volek is awful, his passes just seem to deflate mid-spiral. However we have to make do with what we've got.

Great progression from the rookies during the postseason!! It was a good year, now we move into the offseason...

So in the offseason we made some moves to unload some injury prone or veteran players as we are trying to keep the team young. I'm not being overly restrictive on the team to make certain moves. If the cpu accepts, I'll make the deal. The following fulfilled what the cpu teams wanted on their trade blocks:
Traded Volek (86) and a 2nd pick to WAS for CB Rogers (83).
Traded LT Hopkins (92) and TE Kinney (86) to Miami for TE McMichael (88) and 4th + 6th picks.
Traded CB Law (96) and WR Bennett (90) to CHI for WR Currie (71) and DT Harris (90).

We finished the preseason 4-0 but againts their scrubs of course I could do better with my scrubs. I barely scored in the first half with/vs the starters. The sliders will stay at 82 for the first game of the regular season to see what happens. If it's easy again I will keep sliding them up until I reach All-Pro. Position battle winners (bold upset):
WR Smith/ Calico
TE McMichael/Troupe

I'll get some going. Volek is awful. This is my created player who was the third string starter before I traded McNair and Volek, Clark Kent aka Superman :) If I can figure out how to use Fraps, I'll do some movies too as I have been having some nasty kickoff returns and long runs. I am just starting to learn how to juke and stiff arm. I have always been a more basic player up until now I guess I have some players that allow me to be a little more fancy.

FRAPS is easy, the hard part is converting the video from its extra large file size AVI's to something you can post and doesnt take people 10 yrs to download.
Plus your gonnna exceed your bandwidth on the web site with files that big
Just install fraps, hit F9 to start recording, then F9 again to stop.

I just watched the video, great stuff
Experiment with using slow-mo during the replays, rotate and zoom too.
Also the playbacks that EA gives you in game are great as they up the graphics during them, when you see that EA splash screen come up after a big play, hit f9 so ur ready.

Good tip, I'll try that next time however alot of what I've been capturing didn't have those replays. I may not have it turned on. Also I already am compressing them quite a bit. Those were all 50+MB files cut down to 3mb or less.

RH hasn't had any sacks or picks in the last few games but I'm sure there's bound to be one sooner or later. And when there is it'll be captured. Nice to see you got your franchise back on track.

I'll get some going. Volek is awful.
Volek's not that bad if you get his accuracy up. I fooled around with the Titan's today, and I traded McNair for Rivers, dumped their FB for a HB who I converted I think his name was Lee, who had good pbk and rbk. Brown seems to be the heart of the team, he's got excellent btk. The main problem is the inexperianced defense and they have no outstandingly fast wideouts.

I tried using Volek and he just stunk for me. My defense is incredible now at the end of year 3 and I barely made any changes to it. They all progress massively.

Volek had a 97.7 rating for me by the end of the first season but I traded him to the Bills for a 1st and made Rivers my new starter. I have to say though, your right the defense does progress rather fast. I'm running the 46 with them, since the CBs can do pretty well now 1 on 1 and Tank Williams is a beast.

I run the 46 too and Bulluck, Sirmon and WIlliams are all 99s in my third year. Jones and Thompson are 98s. They progress very fast, and so does Jones.
