Not trying to offend anyone because the concept of the SPA was a great idea. Unfortunately, it is nothing but a joke. I don't know who the people are confriming some of these guys as straight, but there are many that aren't even close. I can get the same type of game from entering the East/ESPN/Pontiac/PlayNow rooms.

I will continue to stick to the Utopia Straight Players List and the very few I have added from the SPA. The Utopia List will give you a more Sim Style of play than the SPA. The SPA just hasn't done what it had sought out to do, which is eliminate Sim Straight from East Room Straight to plain cheese.

you know what i think would be cool. If there was a league were you had to play exacly like the team you use in the league on O and D and SP. You would have to submit gm tape to the server. This would be good for 2 things. 1 you can make sure that every one's playin str8 and you can game plan VS your oponit. O'well just some thoughts.

I am fairly new to the SPA and not that good at NCAA anyways, but I like the concept of it. At least I have a list of people I can play and get a decent game out of. My biggest concern with playing random people online is the constant no huddle, half back direct, Vince Young running around the corner every play, and the run back and lob. You avoid most of that with playing folks in the SPA.

Only gripe is that there is just a fine line from cheese, and knowing something will work. Throwing deep when you see someone is single covered is fine. Throwing deep when you just dont care if he's is single, double, or triple covered because you know you have a 80% chance of completing it no matter what gets old. If I know exactly what you are going to do, you know that I know, and you do it anyways because I can't stop you....that bites.

As a priveldge, and not a right. Have your testers out there. Troj talked about being incognito and finding out if people are str8 or not. I think the initial group is a sound group, but as we have people that just come on to this and the Utopia site, that we are unsure of. You should have a probationary period. Let them know what is expected. And let everyone police themself. It can work. Most of the S.P.A. games that I've played were good. No one is perfect, and as long as the spirit is enforced, than it should be ok. Pause the game and point out the transgressions, or discuss it afterwards. It is only as good as the people that ply it...

Well, I think DJ started something really good. It needs a few tune-ups. But everything that grows eventually will.

With all fairness fairness to VG, cause I love you guys and there are some great players here, Heavy is right about Utopia though. I'm not wanting to start something. lol ... I'm just saying that as an observation. You see alot more variety in play-calling and plays veering more towards what the teams run in real life. I might be a bit biased though - since that is the site I started on. Like I said, I've grown to love VG players too (most of you).

A probationary period would be good. Stricter rules might be nice. It would be way too restrictive, but I love the idea that was mentioned of playing your actual team's style. It is definitely NOT cheese - but c'mon, why must I defend the option 20% playing against teams like FSU, Miami, and Michgan???

I do have one screen name that no one knows about, which I am currently playing on, and I'd love to be one of the ones to go incognito on guys to see what they do outside spa. Talk about undercover detective. :cool:

This is very truw. I have played plenty of straight (or mostly straight) people in the chat rooms lately. Just have to make sure you check careers - even if they have stars.

This is an interesting discussion.

Honestly, I can't even remember the last time that I looked at the S.P.A list. I don't know who is on it, and who isn't, except for the guys that I play regularly. It's been forever since the S.P.A. room was a big deal.

It raises the question. Is the S.P.A. really necessary? The way that I see it, boards like this one and Utopia allow people to meet up and find other "sim" ballers. People then build reps among the site members as "str8", and get incorporated into everybody's friends list. People who post on the site that aren't considered "str8" don't make as many friends list. Nobody is hurt, and everybody can basically play how they want to, and can find opponents who play according to a shared idea of what is, or isn't acceptable.

Take Awn for example. I don't agree with a lot of Awn's game, or at least what I know about it. He doesn't have a good rep as being "str8", and people that I trust who have played him have said that he did shady things. So I don't play Awn. Thus there is no conflict. Awn doesn't have to hear me *****ing to him about how he cheesed me, and I don't have to deal with tactics that I disapprove of.

You can have an arbitrary list of people who are "approved", but the bottom line is that the only people who I consider "approved" are those who I play and see for myself. I'm not going to continue to play somebody who's game I don't like just because they made a "str8" list somewhere. The only way I'd do that was for a league game in the NR4HL league, because I made a committment to it. But after that single game (or however many I had to play against them in the schedule), I wouldn't play them again.

Maybe the S.P.A. is a good ground for helping to bring "sim" players together, and helping people to expand their friends list by meeting new folks, but I don't know how viable it is in terms of being the end all for determining who is, or isn't straight. I don't think that such a determination can be made by anybody but each man for himself. We all have different ideas of what "str8" play means, and our choices of who to play, and how to play reflect that.

The S.P.A. is a good way for raising issues to the forefront, and helping to provide a discussion arena about issues involving "str8" play. Like line slanting. It gives us a way to debate it, and even though nobody is forcing anybody to do anything, it helps all the different viewpoints to be aired so everyone knows where everyone stands, and why they stand there. But aside from that, and acting as matchmaker for lonely "sim" players, I don't know that the S.P.A. can do what it's creators intended it to.

Yea I can say that. Picking when to use a ply, and when to take advantage of the Defense is all apart of strategy. I think that this association will evolve as the game evolves. Next years rules may need to be adjusted bcause hopefully some of the things that were rampantly wrong in this game, will be adjusted next year. It is all about growth.. Hopefully by then Rhombtch will grow up and talk what he knows, and not gripe and groan about what his other jilted girlfriends have gone through.

I assume running it constantly is "weak". I rarely use it, but if I do use it, it is maybe once or twice a game when it is an obvious running situation, is this bad?

Picking a base defense and sticking with it:
I primarily pick one formation (typically 4-3) and run mulitple plays from it (blitz, zone, man, cover 2, cover 3, etc..), is this acceptable or do I need to change up my formation every play or so (which is definately the case for offense...I now know that staying in the same formation for an entire drive is a no-no).

Motioning a wide reciever or tight end to overload a side when opponent is in zone coverage or to set up a run play:
Example--Shotgun tight, move the right inside reciever to the left, so I have 3 stacked on one side? or moving the tight end over on ace normal or twins, when I am running to the overloaded side?
How does this rate...it seems that I should be able to take advantage of what the defense gives me, but I don't want to offend anybody.

The S.P.A. (Str8 Players Association) was set up by fellow online gamers to increase the widespread of str8 play online. Just like you, members of the S.P.A. were sick and tired of venturing off into various rooms online and having to deal with the cheese and/or glitch plays that people use. here's my take on what you're saying:

44 defense:

if you're gonna use this defense against me as a base when i go under center with 2 wr or less, then i'm throwing deep on you. i'll run a little, but you're basically crowding the box, so why shouldn't i throw deep? i'm not worried about the defense, it's saying that i throw deep too much on it. what the hell else am i supposed to do?

all out blitzes: don't really bother me either, but if you look at some of the guys with better records, their blitz % is somewhere in the vicinity of 40%. mine is like 37%, i think heavy's is 43%. there are others. all out blitzes aren't really a huge deal, but if you're gonna do it, don't complain when guys sprint straight back.

base defense: i have my base too. the fact of the matter though is switching it up every now and then. i mean going 4-3 against 5 wide is just stupid and you should expect to be burnt deep or over the middle. i throw in some nickle, some 5-2, maybe even some 3-4, maybe a little dime at the end of a half.

motioning: i personally don't have a problem with it, but i play a lot of zone anyway. if you're in man and you motion, it's the d's job to man lock otherwise, you have someone wide open. as far as running the ball goes, as long as you're not running hb off tackle every time and using it or something, you should be fine.

On this thread, everyone does need to stop *****ing or at least do it in private. Let's just play the game and attempt to play str8. I know that sounds hypocritical, but seriously. I've been thinking about it. I like playing people from Utopia and people from VG. I don't cry during the game. I don't whine during the game at all. I did after the game in one situation with Awn in a specific thread, but that was it. I choose not to play him again and he can do the same with me. We all know I was right :D , but I should have never brought my complaints up in public.

Point is - people come to sites like this to look for good "no-crap" games in the first place. No one intentionally plays gay (at least I hope). If you think someone does - then don't play them. Warn others about them in PM's, but these threads are getting out of hand. I have good rivalries going with HH, Rhombic, Blueweeds, VGDJ, Ballzyeah, M-Dub, JTrain, BigJkt, and a few others.
