Most wireless routers (all of them that I've seen) have lan ports so u can still use network cables to hook it up. Now, if u want ur PS2 to be wirelss then u have to buy a special adapter that hooks up to ur ethernet port on ur ps2. I don't know where to get one tho.. I've only heard ppl talk about it.

Thank you for your help. I wanted to make sure before i forked over a 100$ for it. I'll just get a regular router then. I was just trying to avoid running phone lines through my house.

I just bought the Linksys wireless router for like sixty nine dollars and bought the Linksys game adapter for 100 hundred dollars at Best Buy. It cost me a lot but is alot better than unplugging my modem and doing all of that crap everytime I wanted to play. It was worth it

You can get a router ... but be careful of getting random disconnects. Madden 06 is horrible with wireless routers. The best is if you can go direct connect which is plugging your high speed connection into your PS2. So if you get a router and notice you getting more disconnections ... you may want to re-examine your options. I use a gateway (through RCN) and my disconnects have gone down by like 90%.

The Linksys brand works really well. Just make sure to watch out for the random disconnects. It could mess up an otherwise nice Madden record.

I was getting random discos, first time was because my wireless router was getting interference from something else (ie. neighbors phone), but once I switched channels on my router it fixed it. That was with 2005. I was getting random discos this year too and once I set my ps2 with a static IP they went away (it was on dhcp before). So there are ways to fix the random discos.

I use a wireless router and wireless bridge to connect my ps2. I've had one random disc out of 15 games so far this year (up 7-0 :'( ).
The main problem i'm having is when i try to start the game, it only works (i get the grey check mark) like 5% of the time. the rest of the time it just hangs at "Connecting..." Any suggestions?
I have my ps2 setup as my DMZ...i guess i'll try giving it a static IP next.

I tried setting mine up with the DMZ option too and I got the same thing. It would never connect at the matchup screen.. it would just say "connecting....". Once I switched it back it stopped tho. But I get the "connecting..." verbage a lot too. I think it's a cross between the EA servers and other ppl that have routers. Most of the time if you or ur opponent bypasses the router and connect directly to the PS2 it will connect. Ur not the first person to complain about the "connecting..." issue... it happens to all of us.

you have to open specific ports on your router and then your fine

AND forward the traffic (i.e. Madden online gaming info) to the FIXED IP address of your PS/2 or PC/Notebook.
Makes things a whole lot stabler, as already mentioned in other replies.
Check the third or second to last page of your Madden manual - the ports that you have to open on your router are listed there. This is a MUST if you want to host online games.

yep.. pretty much. It doesn't make a different on the type of ps2 u have or what type of console you have, etc. Just as long as you have a network adapter it will work any router will work. They all use a standard RJ45 connectors.
