I just got the game...and the roster changes are really great...but I was just playing this guy and he seemed to always wait until after I called my play on offense and he always seemed to have the perfect defense....
Is there a way to see the formation of the other team before you pick your play?

Basically, if the defense waits until after the offense has called their play, the game displays the FORMATION that the offense has chosen. It doesn't show you the play, just the formation, and it's actually only a package information, like 2RB, 1TE, 2WR. It just gives the defense an idea of the personnell that's on the field that they will have to defend against.
One way to avoid getting nailed by that is to use your audibles and call different plays from the same formation. Don't ALWAYS pass from the shotgun, if you have a back with you, use him or he will be ignored.
Some people consider the game telling the defense what the offense is coming with as "cheese", but in a real football game all I have to do is look at the field and I can see how many receivers are on the field, that's why the numbering system is the way it is in the NFL (player jersey numbers MUST be in a range dedicated for their position)
Basically, mix up your play calling and don't be afraid to audible your opponent to death. Just remember, football is 90% physical, and half mental (john Madden)
