Hail to the Redskins!
http://www.blackberrywallpapers.com/images/redskins.jpg
After the 2004 season, which saw the Redskins going a measly 6-10 even with the return of Hall of Fame coach Joe Gibbs, Dan Snyder finally realized he can not run a team successfully on the field. Financially, on the other hand, he was a genius. The Redskins have been consistently ranked at the top of the list for most successful sports franchises. Every year the Skins generate more revenue than any other pro football team, despite the fact that the team hasn't made the playoffs since 1999.
With a new owner and tons of talent already in place, the Skins look to break the 5 year playoff drought, and finally reward the loyal fans of the Washington area with a playoff appearance.. and hopefully more.
With very little salary cap space this offseason, don't expect the 'Skins to make a huge free agent signing, even with such big names as RG Dan Neil on the market..
Up next, a breakdown of the roster, along with training camp.

Owner brings rookie CB from UMD back to the Washington Area
Washington gets:

Rookie CB Domonique Foxworth (75 OVR), 22 years old
AND
a 4th round pick in the 2006 NFL Draft
Denver gets:

CB Walt Harris (81 OVR), 30 years old
Analysis
This is a good deal for both teams. The Broncos, sick of being torched by the Colts in the last two years in the playoffs, added a veteran, experienced cornerback (85 AWR) to their starting lineup, thus guaranteeing that inexperienced rookie Darrent Williams would not have to be thrust into the starting lineup.
As for the 'Skins, they bring a fan favorite back home, as Domonique Foxworth graduated from the University of Maryland last spring. Their secondary needed a youth movement, as Shawn Springs, their top corner, is not getting any younger. This enables 9th overall pick CB Carlos Rogers (80 OVR) from Auburn, nearly as capable and with much more potential than Harris, to start and gain valuable experience. Foxworth will probably take over slot duties. Foxworth is a much better athlete than Harris (93 SPD), and the Redskins hope he will progress quickly in order to gain much coveted skill at the slot cornerback position.

Are you using the default or updated rosters?
I'm using the updated rosters (from like December 21st or something), but I went and fixed each teams roster. With the update, people like McNabb, Culpepper, Westbrook, Ray Lewis, etc were all benched. I just reordered all the rosters correctly so that the teams would be accurate reflecting the start of the 2005 season.

Breaking Down the Redskins, Offense
For most positions I will mention only the starter, unless there are notable backups as well.
QB: The position of instability for the Redskins franchise over the last several years. Mark Brunell is the starter right now (86 OVR), but at 35 years of age he is not the future of this franchise. 1st Round Pick from 2002 Patrick Ramsey has been largely disappointing (81 OVR) and unhappy here in his stay at Washington, and will likely by shipped out at the end of the season. 2005 first round pick Jason Campbell has been dubbed the franchise's future at the all-important QB position, and with tons of potential at only 22 years old (78 OVR), he is a good choice.
HB: Clinton Portis is young (24), fast (96), and fiery. Coming from Miami U, he has an attitude, but we like him. After a disappointing 2004 campaign, we hope he will become the focus of our offense, as we look to pound our opponents into oblivion. Ladell Betts is a more than capable backup (78 OVR), something necessary due to the beatings RBs take in this league.
FB: Mike Sellers is a huge guy and tough to stop in short yardage situations. Unfortunately he is not too fast, but he should be able to lay a key block on every play he's in so Clinton Portis can gain a few extra yards per carry.
WR: Having gotten rid of our two starting receivers from 2004, our top receiver now is Santana Moss, another explosive (97 SPD) player out of Miami U. Look for him to be Mark Brunell's favorite target, and hopefully he can generate plenty of yards after catch. #2 receiver is a questionable spot, with several mediocre players on our roster.
TE: Chris Cooley, a second-year pro, is quickly becoming a great pass-catching target. He's also a decent blocker, and should hold down the TE position for years to come.
T: The tackle position is the strength of our offensive line, an important quality when you have a fast RB like Clinton Portis who can get around the outside. RT Jon Jansen (97 RBK) and LT Chris Samuels (93 OVR) are two of the elite players at their positions.
G: Probably the weak link of our OLine. Randy Thomas (93 OVR) is a quality guard at RG, but Derrick Dockery (77 OVR) will not cut it at LG for very long. Also notable is backup RG Ray Brown, most likely in his last season, at the age of 42.
C: We have two decent Centers, including starting center Casey Rabach and backup Cory Raymer, both rated in the 80's OVR. Cory Raymer is not too happy in his backup role and this will probably be his last season in Washington.
In conclusion.. team needs (in the offseason next year, since not much room to make big free agent signings now): LG, #2 WR
That's all for the offense. Stay tuned for the defensive breakdown.

Breaking Down the Redskins, Defense
DE: The DE position will be a future concern as Renaldo Wynn and Phillip Daniels are both in their 30s. Both players are above average defensive ends, but they lack any speed whatsoever (62 and 64). They both approach 300 pounds though, and should hold their own in run stopping. Hopefully they will be able to generate a pass rush by overpowering O-Lines.
DT: Also a concern. Cornelius Griffin is a stud (88 OVR), but after that the talent level drops off considerably. Joe Salave'a is a journeyman in the last year of his contract, with only 71 OVR and 88 STR. With DT Brandon Noble likely done for his career with a debilitating condition, we need a big, strong body to pair up with Griffin, who's only at 88 STR.
OLB: Perhaps the strength of our defense. LOLB Marcus Washington is the leader of this defense (92 OVR), and ROLB LaVar Arrington, although a headcase, may be one of the most talented on it (95 OVR). They've both got speed (82/88), tackling ability, and strength, and expect them to pretty much own opposing ballcarriers. Both will excel in coverage too.
MLB: With talented MLB Antonio Pierce departed to the Giants in free agency, Lemar Marshall is going to have to step up big to fill the void in the middle. He is certainly capable (82 OVR), and while not as much of an athlete as his two linebacking counterparts mentioned above, he's a solid tackler and will be good in run stopping.
CB: Ex-Seahawk Shawn Springs, a veteran corner, has the #1 CB job locked up. With athleticism (94 SPD) to go along with his skills, he will have the task of covering the opponents #1 WR. Rookie CB Carlos Rodgers, a 1st round draft pick this year (#9, 80 OVR), will take up the opposite starting spot, and we expect him to produce right away. Our recent acquisition Domonique Foxworth, a 93 SPD, 75 OVR rookie (acquired from Denver), will take over the slot CB position that departed Walt Harris most likely would have filled.
S: We seem to be overloaded with capable players here. FS Sean Taylor, the controversial second-year safety out of Miami, is a vicious hitter and big playmaker. If he keeps his head in the game he will be outstanding this year. SS Pierson Prioleau is also a capable starter (85 OVR). If either of these two players goes down, we have Omar Stoutmire (81 OVR), Matt Bowen (83 OVR), and Ryan Clark (78 OVR) to replace them, or spell them for a bit. Hopefully all of these players manage to stay happy even in their backup roles.
Team needs on defense: DT
Rumors are that the Skins are trying to trade for another lower-tier defensive rookie, this time at DT.. stay tuned.

Trade -- Not-Exactly-Blockbuster
In a swap of two players who aren't exactly household names, the Redskins and Bucs have completed a trade, pending league approval.
Washington gets:
DT Anthony Bryant (69 OVR), 23 years old
http://www.sptimes.com/2005/08/19/images/medium/C_1_bryant3_220076_0819.jpg
Tampa Bay gets:
FS Omar Stoutmire (81 OVR), 30 years old
http://i.a.cnn.net/si/images/football/nfl/players/4019.jpg
Analysis: Anthony Bryant is a 6'3, 340 pound monster (95 STR) out of Alabama (6th round pick by the Bucs), who may actually end up starting for the Redskins, even though he was fourth on the depth chart for Tampa Bay. With Joe Salave'a only a bit better at this point (71 OVR), Bryant's physical build might push him over the top. With the gaping weakness at DT, Bryant's ginormous size should plug a big hole on the line.
Omar Stoutmire was the 3rd string FS on the roster, behind Sean Taylor and Matt Bowen, and was not likely to see much playing time. In Tampa Bay he is now the second string FS and will be able to prove he can still play at the age of 30. He will also provide them with a solid special teams player.
If you need a guard: get Chris Kemoeatu. He's a RG, but you can switch him to the left.
I like Bryant. I have him on my crap team too. I dig his 99 STR.

Kemoeatu is amazing.. I always draft him as a backup or even a starter in my fantasy drafted chises.
However, I will probably stick with Dockery, after looking at his ratings. He's only 25, 2-3 years older than Kemoeatu, and he has 95 STR just like Chris. They have similar PBK/RBK ratings, so Dockery should be able to improve quickly if Portis does well.

Redskins: Special Teams Analysis and Training Camp
K: PK John Hall has one of the strongest legs in the league (95 KPW). His KAC will improve easily.
P: P Tom Tupa is getting old, but he's still effective. We will need to find a replacement whenever he retires.. not a big concern.
PR/KR: Right now we have the explosive Santana Moss lined up at KR/PR. Obviously we don't want him to get injured, so if our offense proves it can put together long drives, we'll probably just sacrifice the extra 5 yards Moss would've gained and place rookie CB Domonique Foxworth at the KR/PR spot.
Training Camp:
The Redskins had a very successful training camp. I probably could have gotten +7 for more of these camps, but I didn't feel like going through it all for all of them.
Pocket Presence: QB Jason Campbell +1 AWR, +2 THA (+2 OVR)
Chase and Tackle: FS Sean Taylor +6 AWR, +1 TAK (+4 OVR)
Swat Ball: CB Carlos Rodgers +4 CTH (+1 OVR)
Trench Fight: LOLB Marcus Washington +4 STR (+2 OVR)
Clutch Kicking: K John Hall +4 KPW (+5 OVR)
Rushing Drill: HB Clinton Portis +3 BTK (+1 OVR)
Catching Drill: WR Santana Moss +1 ACC, +4 CTH, +2 JMP (+3 OVR)
Our two first round picks did well, our thug Sean Taylor did extremely well, our two offensive standouts progressed well, and John Hall now has a 99 KPW leg, strongest in the league.
Trimming the roster: With several excess players on the roster, the 'Skins released a few to cut down the number of players we had to deal with. WR Jimmy Farris, WR Antonio Brown, DT Cedric Killings, DT Ryan Boschetti, and TE Brian Koslowski were all cut from the team. None had an OVR of higher than 70.

Notes on how this franchise will be run, as we approach the beginning of the 2005 preseason:
-sim all preseason games
-I'll begin by playing the regular season games.. I'm trying to make this a challenge for myself, but I can blow out the CPU on All-Madden with any team pretty much. I'll probably knock the sliders a bit in favor of the CPU and against me.
-Playing on All-Madden, unless it becomes too easy, then I'll start to sim
-I'll play the playoff games
-No real specifics on trades and free agent signings, but I'm going to keep it reasonable (I did turn off the trade deadline though)
-Holdouts will be humiliated and traded/released.. after I get rid of their signing bonus, just to screw them (using Madden Editor for PC)
-Must sign first 5 draft picks no matter what.. I will probably sign them all.
That's all I can think of at the moment. Up Next: Position Battles and the preseason.

Position Battles
QB: Mark Brunell, Patrick Ramsey, Jason Campbell
--sorry EA, I don't care what your program tells me, Brunell will be the starter and Campbell will be the backup.
WR (slot): Taylor Jacobs, James Thrash
TE: Chris Cooley, Robert Royal
--I expect Chris Cooley to win this
C: Casey Rabach, Cory Raymer
CB (#2): Carlos Rogers, Domonique Foxworth
Preseason
Record: 3-1
W Miami, 24-13
W Carolina, 18-13
W Pittsburgh, 24-20
L Baltimore, 10-27
Progression
Nobody really progressed up and down that much:
- QB Mark Brunell regressed 1 OVR
- HB Ladell Betts progressed 2 OVR
- SS Ryan Clark progressed 1 OVR
- DT Anthony Bryant progressed 3 OVR
- CB Domonique Foxworth progressed 2 OVR
Nobody else of significance went either way very much. It's good to see our two young trade acquisitions (Bryant and Foxworth) are thriving. Bryant will start for the 'Skins in the regular season.
Position Battle Results -- no real surprises here
QB: Mark Brunell -- Patrick Ramsey -- Jason Campbell
WR (#3): Taylor Jacobs -- James Thrash
TE: Chris Cooley -- Robert Royal
C: Casey Rabach -- Cory Raymer
CB: Carlos Rodgers -- Domonique Foxworth
Even though he has been listed at #3 on the depth chart, I will definitely be subbing in Jason Campbell at QB if games get out of hand. He is the future of this franchise and will need to be developed carefully. Taylor Jacobs, an athletic third year pro, will make a good slot receiver behind Santana Moss and David Patten.

http://www.redskins.com/uploads/photos/perm/main/CFBEPGAPJMPO/DockeryLines2.jpg
An extension to 25 year old LG Derrick Dockery's contract. We know the LG spot is the weak link in our offensive line, but at only 25 years old and with 95 STR and 89 RBK, Dockery should improve enough to become a quality starter in the position.
Dockery, in the last year of his current contract, is now with the Redskins for the next 4 years, earning somewhere between 4 million and 5 million dollars, with a hefty signing bonus to keep the total salary low.
Week 1 of the regular season is fast approaching. We play the Bears, at FedEx Field, who in 2004 were absolutely pathetic, and we expect nothing more from them this year. Hopefully we do not get overconfident. Stay tuned.

Week 1 -- Home vs. Chicago
Win 32-3
http://www.chicagobears.com/uploads/photos/perm/main/BIOLBDLOADGH/ToddJohnson_inside091105.jpg
Chicago had a tough time bringing down Clinton Portis, who rushed for 144 yards and 3 TDs
Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts ravaged the Chicago defense, rushing for a combined 223 yards on 42 carries. Mark Brunell struggled at first, throwing a pick right in the endzone to Chicago SS Mike Brown, but on the subsequent play MLB Lemar Marshall sacked Rex Grossman for a safety. 3 Clinton Portis TDs and 3 John Hall FGs totaled our team's points. Brunell eventually warmed up, throwing for 170 yards, including 70 to Cooley and 75 to Moss. Jason Campbell played the entire fourth quarter and went 2 for 4 for 24 yards.
Rookie CB Domonique Foxworth had a great debut, intercepting a pass. Carlos Rodgers also helped in shutting down Chicago's offense, limiting them to 83 total yards (compared to our 407). Our ball control offense was largely responsible for Chicago's lack of offense, as we ran the ball 45 times in total, compared to just 22 passes. Pierson Prioleau also intercepted a pass, and Lemar Marshall forced a fumble which was recovered by DE Renaldo Wynn. CB Shawn Springs showed why he's one of the best all-around corners in the league, leading the team with 6 tackles, mostly on run support, 3 for loss. He also limited star wideout Muhsin Muhammed to 15 yards on 4 catches.
We still broke even on the turnover battle however, due to the Brunell pick and a fumble lost by Clinton Portis and Ladell Betts each. The rain probably had something to do with that. Thomas Jones was bottled up for 8 yards on 14 carries, and Rex Grossman was harassed into a 8-20, 77 yard performance.
Stud T's Jon Jansen and Chris Samuels had 9 pancakes each as the O-Line left gaping holes for Portis to explode through. Portis was named NFL Offensive Player of the Week for his performance.
Up next, our division rivals, the hated Dallas Cowboys, on Monday Night Football. Don't expect a blowout like this, 1) because the Cowboys are a better team than the Bears in Madden on both sides of the ball, and 2) I'm gonna turn the sliders against me some (yes this is on All-Madden).
See you in Dallas.

Great win .. I like really like the game description and stuff.
When it gets too easy to blow out the CPU (I have that issue too) here's what I do. Usually I turn the Defensive sliders for BOTH CPU/User way up on All Madden .. so it makes it difficult for both sides to even score at all -- plus it makes finding a good punter a priority (field position is key sometimes, eh?) and big special teams stops/long returns all the more worthwhile. That way, you know you've got a killer Offense when you drop 30 - 40.
A few things I noticed while reading your 'chise (read the whole thing thus far).
1) Re-signing Dockery .. that was brilliant. A lot of people don't even think to give their talented youth a bigger contract in the 1st few years, especially when not starting. But he'll be the guy you follow into the endzone (like Emitt and Larry Allen) in a few years with some playing time.
2) +6 AWR to S.Taylor .. friggin' best DB in the game, once his awareness gets jacked up. Plus, the difference between sub-70 AWR and above-70 AWR is like night and day. I've got my eye on USC's SS D.Bring in my season .. a carbon copy of Taylor.
3) Stoutmire for Bryant. Bryant is awesome. Like Dockery, he just needs some time to develope awareness wise. Anyway way I play the Bucs twice a year with the Falcons, and the SOB is usually starting for one reason or another. He's in the backfield every other play on pass plays.
Looking forward to the Dallas game .. they're tough.

Good stuff, thanks for the input.
1) At first (as seen in the offensive analysis), I didn't really look at Dockery's stats too closely, just that he was 77 OVR. I failed to notice the fact that he has 95 STR and is only 25 yrs old. Once I saw that, I was all over an extension.. he's a good physical specimen.
2) Yeah Taylor is amazing.. I probably should have added more points to another rating of his, because I'm controlling him the entire season in order to get my stick skill up for when I play online. So far it's pretty good, you'll see when I post my Dallas game results haha.
3) Bryant is huge.. I've already got him starting for my team, and he's already a 73 OVR after the preseason. And seeing as the defensive limited Thomas Jones to 8 yards.. I think my run defense is pretty solid even with a 73 OVR rookie in the starting lineup. And Stoutmire had to go.. with 3 80+ SS's on my roster, I had no hesitations about shipping him out.
I've had no trouble stopping the CPU on defense, so I might just end up turning their defensive sliders up. Default is enough for me to just absolutely destroy the CPU's offense.. eventually you just learn all the faults in the AI and exploit them and they can't do anything.

Haha, using Taylor on every play. I would try that but I'm not that good at using DBs unless it's down inside the redzone, when I don't have to worry about them throwing over my head .. the Falcons have (aside from D.Hall) like the slowest, smallest secondary in the freakin' NFL .. a buncha sub-90 5'9" midgets.
I'm going right after USC's D.Bing in the draft. He should be a great addition .. 6'2", 220lbs, hard hitting and 90+ mobility attributes. Not sure what I'll have to do to get him though. That's my S.Taylor, a season from now.
.. but I'll stick with my LBs and covering underneath.

I'm finding controlling one player on every play has helped my stick skills improve a lot.. good results in the Dallas game. I use Taylor to help out my #2 and 3 CBs, both rookies (Foxworth and Rodgers). Shawn Springs can hold his own, and Pierson Prioleau is more than capable at SS.
Unfortunately I have the PC version (don't have any consoles since n64.. classic), so I can't get draft classes and draft people like Bing, since they don't make an NCAA series for the PC.
I did finish the Dallas game, I've just been sleeping ever since I got home from school today. I'll post it when I come home from basketball later tonight.
Edit: My bad, I forgot to answer your question the first time. I play on 6 minute quarters without accelerated clock. I may move up to 7 minutes sometime though, because we should be totalling like 130 snaps or so between the two teams.. that last game was only like 90-100. Although that might be because I ran the ball the entire game and used up most of the clock.. who knows. 6-8 minutes is pretty accurate.

To be honest, I don't use the keyboard even though I have the PC version. The controls with the keyboard are absolutely awful. The only controls I can remember off the top of my head is that D = X, F = O, E = Triangle, and S = Square. But don't suffer using the keyboard.. just buy a Logitech controller, it's definitely worth the 15 bucks. It's shaped just like the PS2 controller, except each button is labelled with a number instead of a symbol. But the controls are still the same as PS2.
Much better than the keyboard.. I only used the keyboard for the first week I had Madden 2004.. ever since then I've been using the Logitech controller.

Week 2 - Away at Dallas
Win 26-7
http://media.hamptonroads.com/images/sports/redbig.jpg
Sean Taylor, here in pursuit of WR Terry Glenn, was all over the field yesterday, piling up 5 tackles and 2 INTs, and dishing out two injuries as well.
This game was a bit tougher offensively, as we only totaled 290 yards. However, most of this is due to the fact that we picked off Drew Bledsoe 3 times. Sean Taylor (that's me -- I controlled him the entire game) led the team with 5 tackles, 2 interceptions, and gave two people injuries (hit stick!), including Cowboy's star CB Aaron Glenn on a kick return. Glenn did not return for the remainder of the game. Pierson Prioleau had the other interception, his second of the season. We also limited Julius Jones to only 41 yards rushing, their team total.
Offensively, we totalled 143 yards rushing, though only on 3.4 yards per carry. Portis once again carried the work load, rushing for 98 yards and two TDs on 27 carries. Ladell Betts had 30 yards, and Mike Sellers added another 15. In the passing game, Brunell was efficient, not spectacular, going 11-16 for 168 yards, a TD, and a pick (by Aaron Glenn, before he got knocked out). The TD pass was to Santana Moss, catching his first TD pass as a Redskin. Moss finished with 7 receptions for 105 yards to lead all receivers in the game.
Their only score was a 68 yard pass from Bledsoe to Terrance Copper in the third quarter. Bledsoe did finish with 220 yards passing, but he started the game 3-15, and finished 13-32. The three picks prevented any more scoring drives, as two of the picks were in the red zone. A questionable (seems like every single fumble gets overturned in this game) overturned fumble (forced by Taylor, of course) let the Cowboys continue a drive, only to have Taylor pick it off in the end zone 4 plays later.
On national broadcast, the Redskins proved that they are a different team from last year. With Taylor leading the big-play defense, the offense could put up 26 points despite only gaining 290 yards, meaning a lot of short drives. This is a huge victory. Not only does it break a spell of 10+ games in which the Redskins have not beaten their rival Cowboys at Dallas, it gives the 'Skins a valuable early edge in what looks to be a competitive NFC East. Any advantage, such as a tiebreaker, is crucial, and it's good to get a head start on a division record.
Next week we have a bye. We would prefer that the bye was later in the season, but nothing we can do about it now. The Week 3 update will be about happenings around the league, to place this 'chise in context.
Stay tuned.

Week 4 -- Home vs. Seattle
Win 37-10
http://media.scout.com/Media/Image/28/285758.jpg
Marcus Washington and LaVar Arrington celebrate after Arrington returned a fumble 16 yards for a TD.
Don't let the score fool you-- this was a pretty pathetic game for both teams' offenses, especially ours, even though we managed to put up 37 points. Mark Brunell finished an absolutely pathetic 7-for-24 for 77 yards, and threw two interceptions without any touchdowns. The Seattle cornerback combo of Andre Dyson and Marcus Trufant seemingly batted down everything, and they were all over Santana Moss whenever he caught ball, swarming to him and preventing him from gaining any big yards.
Our running game held strong though, with Clinton Portis rushing for another 120 yards on 30 carries, also reaching paydirt on a 10 yard TD run. Ladell Betts added another 30 yards as our running game was the only thing we had going for us. Unfortunately we were not able to sustain drives with Brunell unable to convert 3rd downs and throwing two picks. Portis scored that TD on the Redskins first drive of the game, and the offense was confident, but they never reached the end zone again. John Hall kicked 3 field goals to add another 9 points to the score.
The good news, however, was the performance of our defense. The Redskins quickly jumped to a 14-0 lead on the first Seahawk snap when Philip Daniels forced a fumble, which LaVar Arrington scooped up and returned it 16 yards for a touchdown. Rookie CBs Domonique Foxworth and Carlos Rogers (user pick) each finished with an interception, and Rogers returned his pick (the first of his career) 28 yards for a TD. MLB Lemar Marshall also had an interception to go along with his team-high 8 tackles. Finally, Sean Taylor sparked the defense again by stifling any Seattle attempt at a comeback in the 4th quarter, picking off two balls (both user picks) and returning one 35 yards for a TD. He also gave Matt Hasselbeck an injury in the first quarter on a near-sack. Hasselbeck's replacement, rookie David Greene, was harassed the rest of the day and finished with 4 picks and 170 yards.
In case you weren't keeping track, that's 6 turnovers (5 INTs and one fumble recovery), 3 of which were returned for TDs, and the others inevitably led to the John Hall FGs. Needless to say, the defense should take the majority of the credit for this victory. The only TD they gave up was a 1 yard TD run by Mack Strong, capping a Seahawk drive that started at the Skins' 19 yard line due to a Brunell pick. Star RB Shaun Alexander was held relatively in check, 70 yards, quite a feat when looking at the Seattle O-Line (Walter Jones finished with 11 pancakes).
Mark Brunell will have to step it up soon.. can't expect to get 30 points from the defense every game.
Seattle rookie MLB Lofa Tatupu suffered a season ending injury during the second quarter.
Up next, a trip to Invesco Field, to face the Mile High Broncos and their excellent running game.

Redskins Trade For Rookie CB Again
The Redskins and Rams have agreed to a trade that will bring fan favorite CB Ronald Bartell back to the DC area.
Redskins get:

CB Ronald Bartell, 72 OVR
AND
5th round draft pick in the 2006 NFL Draft
Rams get:

Redskins' 3rd Round Draft Pick in 2006 Draft
AND
A 4th Round Pick (via Foxworth trade from Broncos)
Analysis
With the Rams needing to fill many, many spots on their defense, they chose to extend their rebuilding project another year by gaining two picks to hopefully draft young defensive stars with potential in the next draft.
The Redskins added another rookie corner to their secondary, and this one's a stud. At 6'1, 211 pounds, with 63 STR and 93 SPD, Bartell will be able to handle the burners and the possession receivers. The only reason he is rated at 72 OVR is because he is only at 48 AWR, something which can be easily improved. Bartell may be the best physical specimen of any cornerback from the 2005 NFL Draft, where he was selected with the 50th overall pick by the St. Louis Rams. Bartell attended college at Howard University, a mere 45 minutes from Washington DC, making him an immediate fan favorite here at FedEx field. He is on the active roster for the Redskins' game against the Broncos.
In effect, the Redskins have traded CB Walt Harris and a 3rd round pick for rookie CBs Domonique Foxworth and Ronald Bartell and a 5th round pick, as the team goes for potential in the secondary. With their front seven already extremely solid, the Redskins can afford to go with some inexperienced cornerbacks (3 rookies), with Shawn Springs and Sean Taylor there to help them out.
Click here (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A51721-2005Feb24.html) to read the first in a seven-piece series the Washington Post did on Bartell last year, chronicling his senior season as he attempted to raise his draft stock. It's how I first heard of him, and why I ended up wanting to trade for him.

Week 5 - Away at Denver
Win 45-27
http://media.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/photo/2005/08/06/PH2005080601237.jpg
Rookie QB Jason Campbell, with the guidance of QB Coach Bill Musgrave, led the team to victory following the benching of Mark Brunell
This game was quite a shootout, as our offenses battled back and forth, the final difference being a defensive TD and a last minute TD to seal the victory for the Redskins.
Starting with the Broncos' performance. Mike Anderson had a very good day against the stout Redskins front seven breaking several tackles in the backfield on his way to 90 yards, averaging about 4 yards a carry. He also ran in for two touchdowns, including a 30 yard run in which he broke three tackles, running right through Carlos Rogers on his way to the end zone. This in turn set up the passing game for Jake Plummer, who finished with 165 yards, a TD, and a pick. The TD pass was a beautifully thrown 35 yard bomb to Ashley Lelie, who jumped over Pierson Prioleau to catch the ball. The Broncos' final TD was a 3 yard scramble on a bootleg by Plummer.
The Redskins matched the Broncos' high octane offense stride for stride, taking the early 7-0 lead on a 12 yard run by Clinton Portis. Portis finished with 146 yards on 29 carries, also getting three TDs. In just the second meeting since the blockbuster deal between these two teams last year, in which star CB Champ Bailey was traded for Clinton Portis, Portis clearly got the advantage, earning NFL Offensive Player of the Week honors for his performance. Champ Bailey may have proved to be the Redskins most valuable player however, even though he's on the Broncos. He picked off Mark Brunell, who continued his pitiful play, going 3-10 before the pick.
After the interception, Brunell was pulled and benched in favor of the rookie, Jason Campbell. This was a bold move considering the 14-14 tie the Redskins faced at the time. The other score at this point (besides the first Portis TD) was another Carlos Rogers interception return for a TD, his second in two weeks. Campbell immediately coordinated an excellent 2 minute drill, leading the Redskins down the field in the final minute of the half, finishing by throwing to Chris Cooley, who blasted through Champ Bailey to get into the endzone at the last second.
After the half, the Redskins and Broncos continued to trade scores, with the Plummer pass to Lelie followed by a Campbell pass to Santana Moss for a TD. Broncos CB Walt Harris got some measure of revenge against his former team, picking off Campbell, leading to the Lelie pass. With two minutes remaining, the Redskins were clinging on to a 35-28 lead, and the Broncos had the ball. Fortunately, Domonique Foxworth timed his blitz perfectly on 4th and 10 from the Broncos 10 yard line, practically ripping Plummer's arm off as he almost sacked him. Plummer is now out for the next 3 weeks with a shoulder injury. Clinton Portis ran the ball for a TD from there to seal the victory, 42-28. On a final last ditch attempt, Broncos backup Bradlee Van Pelt threw a pick to Pierson Prioleau, dooming the Broncos once and for all. Hall kicked a FG at the buzzer to make the final score 45-28.
Around the league, there were plenty of high scoring affairs like this one. The Colts beat the 49ers 48-0, the Cowboys beat the Eagles 52-25, and the Browns beat the Bears 34-9.
As week 5 has come to a close, new scouting reports are released for all the players, and their ratings are adjusted as such. Stay tuned to see how the Redskins fared in terms of their new ratings.

I actually think I might give Campbell the starting job permanently.. he has the most accurate arm out of all three QBs, and its much more powerful than Brunell's.
THA: Campbell 86, Brunell 85, Ramsey 83
THP: Ramsey 93, Campbell 90, Brunell 86
He's also much more mobile and quicker than the other two. Plus he's right handed.. as opposed to Brunell, who I struggled with because he's left handed and I often throw to the right side of the field. Only reason he's rated lower than Brunell right now is because Brunell has almost 20 points more awareness than Campbell does.. and that's irrelevant to me since I'm playing the games.

Looks like you're handling business .. especially with the Defense. It's nice to have a D that chips in every once in a while.
About R.Bartell .. although his awareness blows, at some point he'd make a LETHAL safety. Not quite fast enough to cover the best WRs as a CB, but as a safety he'd be able to cover the field very well, and with his size/hitting .. heh.

Yeah the defense pretty much one the last two games for us. If not for points by the defense we would have lost the Seattle game, or tied.. 10-7 or 10-10. Also, without the Carlos Rogers TD + fourth down stop + Prioleau interception last game, the score would have been 28-28 near the end of regulation. With our offenses trading scores pretty much, whoever won the coin toss would have won in overtime most likely.
I'll probably keep Bartell at cornerback.. he's faster than Carlos Rogers (93 to 90), and just as fast as Domonique Foxworth. He's stronger, and will make a good nickelback whenever Shawn Springs retires or leaves the team. I can always get a good safety in the NFL draft I think.

Week 5 Progression

Sean Taylor's strong play has scouts rating him as the best overall player on the Redskins, in just his second year as a pro out of Miami U
Offense
QB Mark Brunell -1 OVR
HB Clinton Portis +1 OVR
FB Mike Sellers +3 OVR
Entire O-Line +1 OVR (except LG Derrick Dockery, +2)
WR Taylor Jacobs -1 OVR
Defense
FS Sean Taylor +2 OVR
SS Pierson Prioleau +1 OVR
CB Carlos Rogers +2 OVR
CB Domonique Foxworth +2 OVR
OLB Marcus Washington +1 OVR
DT Anthony Bryant +3 OVR
MLB Lemar Marshall +2 OVR
Most of the backups progressed one or two points, regardless of their playing time. Anthony Bryant has progressed 3 points despite the fact he has yet to record a single tackle or sack in the four games so far this season. Sean Taylor is now the highest overall player on the Redskins, at an OVR rating of 96. LaVar Arrington, Chris Samuels, Randy Thomas, and Marcus Washington follow at 95 OVR.
Up next, a second straight tough road game, as the 'Skins travel to Arrowhead Stadium to take on the offensive powerhouse known as the Kansas City Chiefs. Our defense has held steady so far, but it has been against relatively tame offenses compared to the dominating O of the Chiefs.

It doesn't really matter though.. as long as they occupy and push back the offensive line, they're doing their job. With Bryant's 99 STR and 340 pound frame, he's certainly doing that, and it's helped make the Skins the best run defense team in the league.

Week 5 -- Away at Kansas City
Win 35-24
http://images.art.com/images/products/large/10212000/10212944.jpg
Clinton Portis led a 10-point 4th quarter comeback, finishing on the day with 160+ yards and 4 touchdowns
Clinton Portis must be disappointed. The last time he faced the Kansas City Chiefs, he was playing for the Denver Broncos, and he torched the Chiefs for 5 TDs. This time around, he only ended up with 4. Betts had the other TD to give the Redskins a final total of 35 points, coming down from a 24-14 4th quarter deficit against the seemingly unstoppable Chiefs.
With the Redskins up 14-0 on two Clinton Portis runs, the Chiefs came back with a vengeance, scoring 24 unanswered points. Priest Holmes and Larry Johnson combined for 110 yards rushing, and Priest ran the ball in twice for scores. The other score came on a 5 yard pass from Trent Green to the X-Factor Dante Hall. Dante Hall helped the Chiefs tremendously, consistently returning punts and kicks for huge gains. He seemingly dodged the first tackle on every single return.
Down by 10 with 5 minutes to go in the game, the Redskins didn't panic, instead sticking to what they did best. Clinton Portis, the workhorse all game (finishing with 35 carries), ran all over the Chiefs on the following drive to make the score 24-21. With Jason Campbell and Santana Moss hitting a rhythm, the Redskins were able to utilize play action very effectively. Campbell finished his first start 12-20 for 200 yards and an interception, respectable numbers for a rookie. The Chiefs, however, began to move the ball down the field, getting into field goal range. Then I sent Sean Taylor on a blitz. Trent Green was knocked back a good 6 or 7 yards on a sack by Taylor, making it a 53 yard field goal attempt for Lawrence Tynes, which would have probably clinched the game.
He missed.
Getting the ball back on our own 43, we only needed 27 yards to get into field goal range. We converted one long 3rd down completion to Moss, who finished with 140 yards receiving. The majority of the plays, however, were still rushing, the 'Skins strength. Ladell Betts finished the drive while subbing in for Portis on a play or two, scoring on a 11 yard TD run. This put us ahead 28-24.
Now the Chiefs were in a panic. There were still 2 minutes left on the clock, and the Chiefs had 3 timeouts. This should have been plenty to continue successfully running the ball and completing medium range passes. Instead, the Chiefs went into 5 receiver sets, and promptly used up three downs against our prevent defense. Then Ryan Clark sacked Green on fourth down to seal the game. With three timeouts for the Chiefs left, we couldn't kneel the time away, and Clinton Portis was able to pick up his 4th TD, and 13th of the season, a league-high. He is on pace for 40+ rushing TDs.. probably not happening, but still, we hope to get him the record.
Our defense did not make as many huge plays this week as in the two weeks beforehand, but holding the Chiefs scoreless for a quarter is not an easy task, especially when the superhuman All-Madden 4th quarter CPU kicks in. Pierson Prioleau did intercept a pass thrown to Tony Gonzales in the end zone during the first quarter, preventing what would have been an early TD for the Chiefs. Sean Taylor led the Redskins in tackles with six.
The past two wins have been good for this team, as neither has come easy at all. AFC West opponents have proven to be a handful, and with San Diego and Oakland still on the schedule, these away games serve as a good preparation for the other two AFC West opponents.
Up next is the lowly San Francisco 49ers. We expect to extend our league-best record to 6-0. The plan is to pass more, so as to give Jason Campbell more experience at the head of an offense. He should be successful against the pathetic 49ers defense. This will also provide rest to Clinton Portis, who has been running the ball 25-35 times a game every game this year. We will limit him to 20 carries next week and then finish the rest of the game using Ladell Betts and Rock Cartwright.

Yeah that definitely has something to do with it.. though if Mark Brunell would get injured it probably would have helped me put in Jason Campbell sooner.
I'm pretty sure almost every starter on both sides of the ball has been injured at least once this season, but it's always for a drive, quarter, or the game.. never really lasts past the one game.
It's strange because I changed the In-Game injury slider to 105, and the Sim injury slider to 80.. might have to increase the discrepancy a little more.

Signed
http://media.scout.com/Media/Image/25/251590.jpg
TE Teyo Johnson, 23 years old
The Redskins have announced the midseason signing of TE Teyo Johnson to a 4-year, 6.35 million dollar deal. The former Stanford basketball player was a second round pick of the Oakland Raiders a few years back, but has only made 23 career receptions. His relationship with Raiders coach Norv Turner went down the drain last season, and he was subsequently released. Many teams were hesitant to take a chance on Teyo, fearing that he would only cause problems. The Redskins however, wanted to upgrade their TE position and add a much needed athlete for rookie QB Jason Campbell to throw to.
As Chris Cooley is a reliable but not spectacular pass catching target (85 CTH, 76 SPD), he will probably be moved back to the Fullback position, where he was at the start of the season before he was moved to TE. Johnson's 82 SPD and 90+ JMP will make it easier for Campbell to connect to the TE position. We don't know how effective he will be, but it will be an upgrade.
With Cooley back to the FB/2nd TE position, the Redskins would like to ship out the soon-to-be-unhappy Mike Sellers, according to rumors around the league. Rumors also have the Redskins in talks about shipping out now-backup QBs Patrick Ramsey and Mark Brunell, both of whom have struggled in Washington and are upset with their lack of playing time. Backup C Cory Raymer (82 OVR) and ROLB Warrick Holdman (86 OVR) are also candidates to be traded.

TE Robert Royal, 25 years old (75 OVR)
Analysis:
The Redskins have added a young, speedy (88 SPD) fullback to their backfield. Although listed at 215 pounds, Derrick Wimbush is still considered a fullback, and the fastest one in the game. He led the nation in rushing as a senior in Division II football at Fort Valley State University. So far this season he has seen limited play with the Jaguars, occasionally returning kicks. Washington plans to use him not as a blocking fullback, but as a receiving fullback out of the backfield in their extremely effective Near/Far and Split Back sets (I use the Detroit Playbook). Wimbush should be happy with his role as a backup to experienced TE Chris Cooley. The 4th round pick is always a bonus.
The Jaguars, on the other hand, have added an extremely powerful runner, Mike Sellers. Sellers has been a TD threat his entire career, hauling in several TD receptions and a few TD runs in short-yardage situations. He is also an exceptional kickoff/punt coverage man. Robert Royal has long been in the Redskins doghouse with his consistently dropped passes, and he looks to get another shot to prove himself in Jacksonville.

Hell of an addition with Wimbush.
Dude I think you're going to make a Superbowl Run your 1st Season .. heh.
Just out of curiosity, assuming that you're a diehard 'skins fan, would you ship out an aging Redskins veteran, despite how he might've helped your team win Superbowls and stuff?
I mean, I guess what I'm saying is .. do you take a GM standpoint with that stuff, or do you just rape the game and send some old guy off for what he's worth? Would you ship out a 34 year old S.Taylor even if he tore it up for you for 13 dominating years?
I love Warrick Dunn. I love what he's done for the Falcons in real life, and for my own team on the game. I think he's a great person with his charities and all that. But he's 30, his contract is thin, and I could still get something for him somewhere else. I think about it, then I realize in real life the Falcons would let him retire a Dirtybird. So I should do the same, and try not to trade him away for whatever I can get. Heh.
Sorry if this is off topic.

Wimbush is so overlooked.. I add him in nearly all my chises because he's so good out of Detroit's near/far sets.
And that's a legitimate question. I would probably consider myself somewhere in between. I'm gonna keep resigning players I think are the face of the Redskins franchise.. and unfortunately for Sellers, he's not one of them. The problem with Sellers is that I've barely used him all season. I rarely run out of I-form with Portis (he's most effective on HB dives out of 3 and 4 receiver singleback sets for me), so he didn't even block that much. I never gave him the ball on the goal line because I want Portis to get the TD instead.. heh. And I never passed to him because he's too slow. On another team he'll probably get more of an opportunity to shine.. even on the Jags team loaded at the FB position.
Players I think will retire as Redskins for me (assuming I continue this chise that long) are: Sean Taylor, LaVar Arrington, Marcus Washington, Clinton Portis, Chris Samuels, Randy Thomas, Jon Jansen. Perhaps some of those three rookie corners I have too, depending on how much of an impact they make during their time in Washington. Everyone else is fair game.. I really can't know until the temptation to trade them comes up I guess.

Haha, that's cool. Somewhere in between.
I know I recently talked on my thread about trading Mike Vick down the road if I could land Vince Young or something, but then I thought about it afterward .. sh*t I could never trade him, UNLESS some insanity sparked like what's going on in Philadelphia right now (where I happen to live, and see it on the front page every day) with McNabb and everybody claiming he's not the man to lead anymore.
I think trading a guy like Dunn, or Vick would be like trading the Bus from Pittsburgh. I'd be (as a real life GM) murdered by fans or something. Of course this is a game, but .. in trying to keep it realistic .. I'll probably let the boys retire and deal with not getting anything more than wins and good memories for their departures. Heh.

Week 7 -- Home vs. San Franciso
Win 41-3
http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/7793/taylor7jg.jpg
An overthrown pass by Alex Smith into the endzone proves costly as safety Sean Taylor picks it off (user pick)
As expected, one of the two remaining undefeated teams (the other is the Panthers) demolished the hapless San Francisco 49ers at FedEx field. In a fairly complete domination, the Redskins put the game away before the half and were able to run the clock in the second half. The new additions to the Redskins roster proved to be helpful as the two new players showed that they can be productive.
Clinton Portis was limited to 19 carries, as we wanted to keep him healthy for down the stretch. Yet he still managed to bust into the end zone a whopping 4 times, tying his season high, and increasing his ridiculous league-leading touchdown total to 17. He is well on his way to smashing the TD record. He scored his 15th TD of the season in the 1st quarter, and followed that up with the 50th TD of his career in the 2nd quarter. A 9 yard 3rd quarter run gave him his final TD of the day. Derrick Wimbush and Ladell Betts took over for him most of the game, and Wimbush proved that he can be a backup HB, gaining 60 yards on 15 carries. He also caught two passes for 24 yards. Betts struggled, only averaging 2.9 yards per carry. We ran the ball 49 times compared to only 16 passes.
Speaking of our passing game, Jason Campbell proved to be exactly what we needed for this team: calm, efficient, and mistake-free. He finished 11-for-16 for 199 yards, including a 61 yard catch and run pass to Santana Moss, who caught the ball five yards from the line of scrimmage, spun the corner out of his shoes, and just raced down the field into the endzone. Moss finished with 73 yards on 2 catches. Recent addition TE Teyo Johnson led the Redskins with 3 receptions, for 54 yards.
On defense, the 'Skins continued their terrorizing of opponents' offenses. The fact that rookie QB Alex Smith was starting didn't help the 49ers much. He finished 8-for-19 with two interceptions, one by fellow rookie Carlos Rogers and the other a user pick in the endzone by all-star safety Sean Taylor. It could have been worse, as rookie CB Domonique Foxworth dropped two surefire interceptions. Their running game wasn't very effective either, with Taylor leading the way with 7 tackles, and Kevan Barlow finished with just 45 yards.
At this point people are starting to talk about the possibility of going undefeated. Great Defense + Dominating running game works well down the stretch, but it might be too premature (still have 9 games left) to have any talks about the possibility. Many analysts compare this Redskins team to the 15-1 Steelers of last year, who started a rookie QB and rode an amazing running game/defense all the way to the AFC Championship round. Hopefully we make it farther.
Rumors still abound around the trade block, where Mark Brunell, Patrick Ramsey, Warrick Holdman, and perhaps even Ladell Betts may be on their way out of Washington. All except Betts could probably start for another team.

I would have no problem with you making a 'Skins chise even though I'm doing one. As long as you aren't making it ridiculously similar (same trades, etc), I think it'd be interesting to have two different people try to make the same team successful each in their own way.

Ahhh .. the wonders of destroying the 49ers .. nothing like padding the stats unintentionally. You can't help it when even your 2nd string tears them up. It happens, heh.
17 TDs for Portis .. go ahead and shatter the record. I've always liked Portis better than I've liked Alexander/Priest Holmes. Have used him plenty of times, and watched him at Miami during the few times he actually got out behind Edge James' shadow.
I'd say you're bound for the playoffs, but I won't guess when the exit will be 'til you lose your first regular season game. heh.
Btw .. awesome in-game picture. I love that stuff.

Trade
Unhappy Brunell Leaves Washington After Short and Disappointing Stay
Washington gets
A 2nd Round pick in the 2006 NFL Draft
San Francisco gets
http://media.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/photo/2005/10/22/PH2005102200892.jpg
QB Mark Brunell, 85 OVR
Analysis
I actually found this trade to be kind of unfair in favor of the Redskins, as a rebuilding team like the 49ers can not afford to give up many picks in the draft. I could have taken their 2nd and 3rd actually, but I was trying to be civil. After two weeks on the trade block, Brunell was finally traded when the Redskins found a deal they liked. Just days after annihilating the 49ers, the Redskins shipped the veteran QB to San Francisco, where he will immediately be the starter. Hopefully he can pass on his knowledge to the struggling rookie QB Alex Smith. Brunell has a good 3 years left in him, and his high AWR will certainly win the 49ers some games.
The Redskins have now reached the maximum of 10 picks. They plan on packaging some picks and trading up, as the team does not have a whole lot of needs to fill. The most glaring needs on the team are D-Line (mediocre DE's, an inexperienced DT, and a DT who isn't getting any younger) and a #2 WR, preferably a possession WR to complement Moss's deep ball threat. SS and MLB might also be addressed. Hopefully the Redskins will be able to fill out their roster only using the draft, without any need for FA signings.
*Because I thought this trade was unfair, I'm jacking up Brunell's stats a bit now that he's in SF. I'll probably add 2 or 3 points to AWR and THA each.
**The Redskins signed second year QB Josh Harris (65 OVR) to a 3 year, 1.25 million dollar deal to replace Brunell on the roster spots.

Heh no worries, I think he's just overreacting a bit.. your chises aren't in any way alike besides the team, so it shouldn't be a big deal.
Yeah Portis is going to own that TD record, in part because he's tearing up defenses so there's no reason to pass very much. I don't feel like loading up Madden right now to check, but I wouldn't be surprised if we were ranked near dead last in passing offense, and we're #2 in rushing offense at the moment. So far we have Portis' 17 rushing TDs compared to just 4 passing TDs for the team (3 by Campbell, one by Brunell), so we pretty much need to rely on his legs to get anything going.
It'd be hilarious if they showed like Fantasy Football ratings for players in the franchise. Portis would be dominating I'm sure. But besides him (and the Moss/defense I guess), nobody would have any value whatsoever.

Week 8 -- at New York Giants
Win 20-17 (OT)
http://images.washtimes.com/photos/full/20051223-115342-5788.jpg
Joe Gibbs continues his resurgence after coming out of retirement, coaching the Redskins to a 7-0 start, including this OT victory over NYG
Well, this was easily the toughest game of the year. The Giants are an offensive powerhouse this year, with the improvement of Eli Manning coinciding with a ridiculous repetoire of skill players, including: WR Terrell Owens, WR Plaxico Burress, WR Amani Toomer, TE Jeremy Shockey, and HB Tiki Barber. It's just nuts that so many tall pass catching targets could be on one team. And against our secondary, in which 3/4 CBs are rookies? We were worried.
And then disaster struck, with Santana Moss, our homerun pass-catching playmaker, who was knocked out of the game. If that didn't make things worse, our starting SS Pierson Prioleau was knocked out of the game as well, forcing second year pro Ryan Clark to play in his place.
Yet the defense held the Giants pretty well. Although the Giants gathered a total of 300+ yards, they only scored one TD, in which Plaxico Burress ran out of the endzone, came back in and caught a TD. Unchallengable. Then Tiki Barber converted 2 points to tie the game at 14-all. The Redskins and Giants traded punts often in a 4th quarter stalemate, but on the last two drives both teams nailed FGs to send the game into overtime. Unfortunately, the Giants won the coin toss. However, after stuffing Tiki Barber on two consecutive runs, Sean Taylor took over. On a risky call, the 'Skins dropped 11 into coverage, allowing me to freelance with Taylor all over the field. I user-picked the ball at our own 9 yard line. Rookie QB Jason Campbell converted some key first downs with his arm, and a 14 yard Clinton Portis run put the 'Skins in position for John Hall's game-winning FG, which he nailed straight through the uprights.
And the undefeated season is preserved.
As for the beginning of the game, Clinton Portis struggled on the ground at first, only averaging 3.0 yards per carry in the first half. But he made up for it in the second half and with his receptions. He finished with 8 catches for 88 yards, and 126 rushing yards on 29 carries, including one TD rushing and receiving each. With Campbell unable to throw to Moss, he went to his second-fastest target.. Portis. The defense pretty much shut down Tiki Barber, limiting him to 60 yards on 22 carries. Terrell Owens, Jeremy Shockey, and Plaxico Burress gave the defense fits, constantly jumping up to catch overthrown balls by a shaky Eli Manning.
Giants' defensive ends Osi Umenyiora and Michael Strahan wreaked havoc on the backfield, sacking Jason Campbell several times. But Campbell stayed cool and brought his team back to victory, finishing 12-16 for 170+ yards, a TD, and an interception.
The loss for the Giants put them at 4-3, and with an offense like that, they will probably make the playoffs. Hopefully we don't have to face them..
Up next is the reeling Philadelphia Eagles, at 3-4. After facing Terrell Owens's new team (the Giants), we are looking forward to a Owens-less team.
But first, since it is week 8, I will be posting the initial results of the end-of-the-year awards. Stay tuned.

Tough win! Dude I'd sh*t myself if I had to deal with the Giants receivers, plus Terrell Owens. Who exactly do you double? When do you blitz? Heh, those would be my questions when playing them. Sometimes, because my secondary .. blows .. yeah, I'll get coverage happy and keep 8 back at all times .. then proceed to get no pressure .. and get picked apart .. yeah. So, exactly what *DID* you do to keep their passing game out of the endzone?
Btw, the Fantasy Football thing .. that'd be hilarious man. I'd actually draft my own Fantasy Team on the game, and root for them too .. heh. Seriously. I think that's something EA should look into. A mini-game.
Another quick question: You're playing the PC version, so I'm guessing you updated your rosters. T.O. was released by the Eagles, and re-signed by the Giants? Or .. did a CPU trade happen somewhere and I missed it?

Yeah their team was pretty ridiculous haha, so it was tough. Basically I'd keep them in 3rd and long situations the whole game by stuffing Tiki Barber the majority of the time on 1st and 2nd down. Then I'd double the X receiver, because that's the side that Sean Taylor isn't on. On the other side, I'd run around with Taylor and shut that side down. When they did get the ball moving into the red zone, if it was third and long, I'd drop everyone into coverage, including the D-Line.. then I'd run around with Taylor to try and go where the QB was looking. Usually it results in a pick or incomplete pass. The one time they did score, I forgot to mention, they got the ball at our ten yard line because Ladell Betts fumbled. But even that score should have been wiped out because Plaxico went out of bounds and then came back in to catch it.
As for the Eagles.. I'm using the updated rosters as of December 21st I think.. and Terrell Owens is listed as a free agent there. So any CPU team could have picked him up, it just happened to be the Giants.

Midseason League Update
Standings
AFC North
Cleveland Browns 4-3
Baltimore Ravens 4-3
Pittsburgh Steelers 3-4
Cincinatti Bengals 3-5 (started 0-5 but now on 3 game winning streak)
AFC South
Indianapolis Colts 5-2
Tennessee Titans 4-4
Houston Texans 3-4
Jacksonville Jaguars 2-5
AFC East
New England Patriots 4-3 (on 3 game winning streak after 1-3 start)
Buffalo Bills 4-4
New York Jets 3-4
Miami Dolphins 0-7 (second straight 0-7 start)
-----------
NFC North
Minnesota Vikings 5-2
Chicago Bears 4-3
Green Bay Packers 3-4 (on a four game losing streak after 3-0 start)
Detroit Lions 1-6
NFC South
Carolina Panthers 7-0
New Orleans Saints 5-3
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 3-4
Atlanta Falcons 2-5
NFC West
Seattle Seahawks 5-2
St. Louis Rams 5-3
San Francisco 49ers 3-4 (Mark Brunell is 1-0 as starter now there)
Arizona Cardinals
and finally the most important:
NFC East
Washington Redskins 7-0
New York Giants 4-3
Dallas Cowboys 4-4
Philadelphia Eagles 3-4
As you can see, the league's goal of parity is working pretty well. Only 6 teams have less than 3 wins, and only 5 have less than 3 losses. The majority of teams are 4-3, 3-4, etc.. so it should be exciting down the stretch as divisional rivals fight each other off for the divisional crown and a spot in the playoffs.
Redskins' Individual Awards (so far)
HB Clinton Portis -- #1 MVP, #1 Offensive Player of the Year, #1 RB of the Year
FS Sean Taylor -- #2 Defensive Player of the Year, #1 DB of the Year
SS Pierson Prioleau -- #5 DB of the Year
LT Chris Samuels, RT Jon Jansen, RG Randy Thomas -- #1, 2, 3 OL of the Year, respectively
K John Hall -- #1 K of the Year (12/12 on FGs)
Coach Joe Gibbs -- #2 Coach of the Year (John Fox is #1)
Obviously the one I am most proud of is Sean Taylor's awards so far, since I've been controlling him every game for nearly the entire game, and I've picked off a league-leading 6 passes with him. Prioleau is tied for second in the league with 4. Bengals K Shayne Graham is the only other perfect kicker so far, going 17/17, but I guess because of the better record, John Hall is leading right now.
I'll update the standings/awards and give you the Pro Bowl teams probably after the regular season is over. If there are any divisional races that are interesting down the stretch, I'll update you on those during the final 2 or 3 weeks of the season.

Week 9 -- Home vs. Philadelphia
Win 30-27 (OT)
http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20050205/images/eaglesj.jpg
Jevon Kearse celebrates one of his near-record 7 sacks, but the Eagles come up short in OT
Imagine the situation facing Jason Campbell:
You're a rookie QB. Your team is down 27-24, and it's because of two interceptions you threw in the last quarter and a half. There are only 30 seconds left and you have no timeouts. Your favorite target, Santana Moss, is lined up on your right. Yet there is a 6'4, 265 Freak of a man on the right as well, named Jevon Kearse, and he has been owning Jon Jansen all day, taking you to the turf 7 times. Covering Moss is the man who has helped Kearse ruin your day, Lito Sheppard. He's intercepted you twice, including one for a TD in the 3rd quarter to put them up 24-17. After Clinton Portis rushed for a TD and your defense stopped the Eagles, you threw another interception to Lito Sheppard with 45 seconds left in the game, which was heading to overtime. Lucky for you Clinton Portis tackled him at your own 2-yard line. And your defense stuffed them 3 times. But you're still down, 27-24. 30 seconds. No timeouts.
And so Campbell led perhaps the most miraculous drive of the season, travelling 65 yards in just 18 seconds to set up John Hall's field goal, which tied the game. So much for Lito Sheppard and Jevon Kearse. Campbell went three plays sack-free, and hit Santana Moss on three consecutive plays, stopping the clock each time when Moss took the ball out of bounds. Hall then tied the field goal, to send the game into overtime. In overtime, it was more of the same, as the Redskins got the ball on their own 5 yard line after shutting down the Eagles' O. Portis and Moss combined for 60 yards on that drive, and a few other plays helped put the 'Skins in position for Hall to nail the potential game-winning field goal, a 35 yarder.
And he did.
And so the Redskins have defeated two division rivals in two weeks, going in overtime both times. This is the third time this season Jason Campbell has led a fourth-quarter comeback.. he's becoming quite clutch.
As for the rest of the game, the Redskins played a near-perfect first half, taking a 17-3 lead into halftime. Portis scored a TD on the first drive of the game, and Campbell threw a perfectly placed lob to Teyo Johnson, matched up against a linebacker, for a 44 yard TD. Campbell finished the half with a 150 passer rating, almost perfect.
The 3rd quarter is when the Redskins fell apart. A Ladell Betts fumble and a Clinton Portis fumble both led to short TD drives by the Eagles, capped off passes from Donovan McNabb to Reggie Brown and LJ Smith. To cap off the quarter, Campbell threw his first pick of the game to Lito Sheppard, who took it all the way back for a score, giving the Eagles a 24-17 lead. The rest of the game is described above.
Clinton Portis finished with 115 yards and 2 TDs, bringing his TD total to 20, and his rushing yard total to 999 yards. Santana Moss burned Lito Sheppard most of the game, with 211 yards on 12 catches. And that was after he missed the entire 3rd quarter with an injury. Perhaps that is why the 'Skins could not move the ball in the 3rd quarter. Jason Campbell still had a pretty good game, with 300 yards or so and a TD, although he did have the two costly picks. He was sacked 8 times, including 7 by Jevon Kearse, and was hit while throwing numerous times, including the two picks. Jon Jansen can't be happy, giving up 5 sacks. The defense played a solid game, but did not force any turnovers. They held the Eagles to just 150 yards passing and 60 yards rushing, but the short field position for the Eagles proved too much to overcome, giving up two TDs (interception return shouldn't count against the D).
With a -4 turnover differential, we were extremely fortunate to win and keep our undefeated season alive. The Panthers also won this week, which makes two 8-0 teams.
Up next is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. We expect a defensive struggle, but hopefully one that won't come down to the wire like the last two.. don't want Coach Gibbs to get a heart attack.
Unfortunately, we lost newly acquired Derrick Wimbush for the season on our final miracle drive of the game. He did show flashes of promise for someone with such limited potential, and hopefully he can resume his role as a pass-catching fullback specialist in a few of our sets next year. But in the grand scheme of our season, it's not a huge deal.
See you in Tampa.

Wow .. heh. Two divisional OT wins .. and the Panthers are 8-0. And what the hell is going on with those Falcons? 2-5?!
I hate playing against guys like Jevon Kearse. Simeon Rice. That Gjaba whatever on Green Bay .. and Julius Peppers. It doesn't matter who they are going against .. they beat them to the outside every single time. I don't think I've ever been sacked 7 times in one game by one guy, but .. okay yeah .. dude after 7 sacks I think you're lucky Campbell's neck isn't broken right now. Or maybe PC is different .. is what I was thinking, until i saw that you lost Wimbush for the Season (your first serious injury to a guy?). Convert Betts to a FB .. heh. He can't catch, but he'll provide a rushing option and a guy to get out in front of Portis.
I think it's safe to say that Santana Moss won the game .. but was Brian Dawkins and Michael Lewis blitzing every play or something? I usually can't go anywhere near them because they're all over sh*t. My Offense against the Eagles is like .. throw underneath every play to avoid them making ridiculous plays (personally, I think they're both over-rated a bit).
Taylor should be the best Defensive Player with 6 picks in 7-8 games .. who could possibly be ahead of him?
Did Jansen drop at all on the O-Line list after giving up 5 sacks? (got me curious about that .. or is the list dominated by guys with all pancakes after all .. heh)
Thanks for the words on my thread. I been updating my Syracuse thread recently, as the schedule seems to have them playing ahead of Atlanta often.

haha excellent.. lots of stuff to talk about
1) Falcons are really suffering because of Vick's awareness hit this year.. he's only got a 70 passer rating or something. Hard to win simmed games with a low AWR QB. Panthers have been getting some lucky breaks clearly, I've looked at their schedule and a lot of their games are extremely close. But they're winning, and can't fault them for that.
2) Yeah Kearse was ridiculous.. as for the injuries, I'm not really sure why, but I lose a lot of players for the game or a few quarters, but never really for more than that. Brunell got injured a lot, Campbell probably has a higher INJ rating because he's never out for more than a play or a drive. Wimbush has been injured a bit in both games I've played with him, so he must have a low injury rating.
3) I can absolutely own the Cover 2 usually with the near/far sets out of the Detroit playbook. Basically Moss/Patten were lined up right next to each other on the right side. I'd send Patten on a streak, so he'd draw Lewis up top. Moss usually ran an out route or some other short route, and I'd hit him in the safety/corner gap in the zone defense.. after that it was all yards after catch. One or two well-timed spin moves can be absolutely devastating with Moss. I didn't throw much to Dawkins's side of the field, except for that 44 yard pass to Teyo Johnson when they were stacking the box.
4) After the Eagles game actually Taylor is #3 now, behind Keith Bulluck and Donnie Edwards. LB's have such an advantage in the DPOY category because they rack up tackles like crazy. If Taylor gets DB of the year I'll still be pretty happy. Maybe I'll try to get him some sacks and take more risks with the hit stick.
5) Nope, strangely enough Jansen stayed at #2.. even though his sack # went up from 5 to 10. Kearse did appear on the DL list since he's now at 10 sacks. Simeon Rice next week.. joy. Though I think he's listed as RE, so he'll be on my left, and I rarely ever roll out to the left. It's just the elite LE's that give me fits. I can't wait til Julius Peppers in the NFC Championship game.. if our seasons continue this way.
6) That's intense.. I forgot that you were actually having their games in sync with one another. I knew they were intertwined but didn't realize they were THAT closely related haha.. its a lot to keep track of. I can barely handle doing one chise at a time, so it's impressive to me.

Ha .. Vick losing it for the Falcons. I believe it. The NFL is losing respect for him in all aspects. In next year's Madden he's going to be so bad. I've come to playing like a champ with him in recent years, but throwing with such low accuracy, along with that 97 THP is tricky. Trying to throw bullets on out patterns often results in throws behind .. interceptions .. he'll throw bullets over the middle. Again, LB interceptions. He's a lot different from every other QB in the game, because the accuracy/power gap is so vast. I'm going to assume the PC Roster (updated) killed his awareness, because on PS2 he starts with a modest 80 or so. The difference of night and day in sim world.
I think I'd place his awareness at about 75 .. realistically in real life. I mean, he's a QB in the NFL who throws more TDs than INTs and completes over 50% of his passes. He's not entirely unable to play the position, like a lot of people seem to think. I get so irritated with hearing people say: "he's not a QB, he's a runningback" when the guy throws for 250 yds and 2 TDs one game, then runs for 120 the next. He's a damn athlete .. heh, who can play multiple positions. We'll leave it at that.
Sh*t, where was I going with this? It's freakin' late.
Yeah, I been keeping both College/Madden Franchises going. More for you to read. ;) Nah but for real, the SU Dynasty I'm running has been a disaster so far. It's gonna be fun as hell rebuilding them when 75% of my starters graduate after this season. The schedules for both Franchises are meshed, so if the Falcons 'chise here isn't updated for a few days, chances are I'm writing on the other one, and vice versus. It's impossible for me to play a game each per day.
Good luck against the Bucs .. I play them twice a year as the dirtybirdz, and every game is nothing but clawing, scratching, and dragging each other downfield en route to one FG after another. It's a chess match of field position. The sh*t is always a rough game, but their Offense is just so terrible .. their Defense has to score 3 TDs to win usually. Winning the turnover battle is usually what it comes down to.
Edit: By the way ... that Taylor sig is sick .. heh

With Derrick Wimbush off of the active roster, we needed to fill the FB spot (Chris Cooley is listed at TE), so we just went and signed the fastest FB possible. At 87 SPD, it was Nick Goings. Doubt we'll use him much (in I-form Chris Cooley plays FB), but he's a good receiving threat out of the backfield.

Week 10 -- Away at Tampa Bay
Win 26-10
http://www.haruth.com/PlayerPortis_1stgame.jpg
Clinton Portis ravaged the Bucs defense (150 and 3 TDs), which was missing LOLB Ryan Nece already, and lost ROLB Derrick Brooks in the second quarter for the rest of the game.
The 'Skins lost QB Jason Campbell for the game. The Bucs lost Derrick Brooks for the game. Guess which had a bigger impact?
With Campbell out and Brooks gone from the Bucs defense, the Redskins ran all over the Buccaneers. Clinton Portis led the charge with 151 yards on 25 carries, including 3 TDs and a fumble. The fumble occured on the Bucs 2 yard line, losing a scoring opportunity. But on the next play, Cornelius Griffin sacked Brian Griese for a safety. The other offensive score was a FG by John Hall, making the total 26.
The Bucs running game was stuffed, as the Redskins limited Carnell Williams to just 35 yards on 18 carries. Williams did truck LaVar Arrington, who left the game with a chest injury. Rookie backup Robert McCune (85 SPD) showed flashes of potential with 3 tackles in Arrington's spot. Sean Taylor led the 'Skins D with 8 tackles, 3 sacks, and an interception which sealed the game. He is now at #1 on the defensive player of the year list. Shawn Springs also had a first quarter interception.
Brian Griese had a rough game, throwing 2 picks on 9-22 passing. He did have 194 yards and a TD, largely because the running game was stopped cold. Jason Campbell was 8-16 for 116 yards before he was knocked out of the game with an elbow injury. Patrick Ramsey was atrocious in his place, going 3 for 7 for 41 yards and an interception, by Ronde Barber. He can say goodbye to Washington very soon. We threw the ball only 23 times, while running it 60 times. The ball control led to a massive time of possession advantage and us running 80+ plays vs. their 40+. Ladell Betts finished with 60 yards rushing as well.
Up next we play the Oakland Raiders, an average team in the league. The game is at home, and we don't expect to lose.
The Panthers are still undefeated at 9-0, barely escaping this week with a 31-28 win in OT. Patriots are on a 5 game winning streak now, at 6-3, beating the Dolphins (1-7) 33 to 0.

Redskins' Running Back Clinton Portis Breaks TD Record
http://i.a.cnn.net/si/multimedia/photo_gallery/2005/07/18/gallery.key.nfc.east/portis.jpg
Redskins HB Clinton Portis is on his way to shattering the record previously held by Chiefs HB Priest Holmes. Holmes set the touchdown record with 27 in 2003. Clinton Portis reached that number and surpassed it in Sunday's game against Oakland. In the third quarter, he rushed into the endzone for his second rushing TD of the day, giving him 3 for the game at that point (he had caught a TD pass from rookie QB Jason Campbell earlier in the game). Later on, he scored twice more to bring his total to 29. With 6 games left in the season, Portis may be approaching a ridiculous 45 TDs. The Redskins offense relies on him, and rarely asks Jason Campbell to throw in the redzone, generally the hardest part of the field to complete passes in. With Portis's effectiveness in the red zone, don't expect that to change. He is largely responsible for the Redskins 9-0 mark (soon to be 10-0 after watching today's game so far).
Portis, acquired in a blockbuster trade before the 2004 season for shutdown CB Champ Bailey, strugged in his first year with the Skins, but now is thriving running north-south in 3 and 4 receiver sets. His O-Line has been phenomenal, especially LG Randy Thomas, LT Chris Samuels, and RT Jon Jansen. So far nobody has been able to stop him, and the record is his for good.
Stay tuned for a recap of the Redskins game today vs Oakland, which is almost complete.

45 TDs .. that's sick. The part I don't get is how the hell are you getting into the endzone so easily inside the redzone? Maybe it's my settings, but I struggle running even with plow specialist Dukett. .. heh. Down in the redzone, that is. Everywhere else i'm fine. It's just that goal line formation .. its a killer.
I have way more success throwing soft lobs.

Week 11 -- Home vs. Oakland
Win 63-3
http://media3.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/photo/2005/12/24/PH2005122401037.jpg
LaVar Arrington and Clinton Portis celebrate after a complete domination of the Oakland Raiders.
The Oakland Raiders were reeling, on a 3 game losing streak. The Redskins took a sledgehammer and destroyed any self esteem the Raiders might have had left. The Redskins should be called the Miami Hurricanes show with the performance that their three biggest playmakers put together. FS Sean Taylor, HB Clinton Portis, and WR Santana Moss combined for 125 yards rushing, 275 yards receiving, 4 rushing TDs, 3 receiving TDs, 12 tackles, 3 passes defensed, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovered, 1 interception, and 1 interception returned for a TD.
In one of the largest margins of victory ever, the Redskins owned in every single aspect of the game.. let's break it down:
Passing: Jason Campbell had his best game of the season by far, going 20 for 28 for 300 yards, including a ridiculous 193 to Clinton Portis. Portis is establishing himself as the best player in the NFL. Give him the ball in open space, and your opponent is done for. Portis caught a TD pass from Campbell in the first half. Campbell's two other TD passes were to Santana Moss, who finished with 80+ yards and the two scores.
Rushing: Portis dominated once again, rushing for 125 yards on 23 carries, getting into the end zone 4 times. Portis shattered the previous TD record held by Priest Holmes, and he still has six games left to go. Ladell Betts also added 60 yards, and the Redskins' offense totaled nearly 500 yards of offense. We knew the Raiders defense would be pathetic.. but seriously? This was almost unfair. We passed the ball the entire first half, except for near the goal line, where Portis scored his first two TDs. The second half, we only threw about 5 passes, and the rest was running the ball down their throats in order to run the clock and give them mercy.
Defense: Sean Taylor kept up with his fellow Miami alum, holding his own on the defensive side of the ball. 12 tackles, 3 passes defensed, 1 fumble forced, 1 recovered, and 1 interception (returned for a TD). The Redskins absolutely harassed the Raiders' offense, forcing Kerry Collins to throw 4 picks (Sean Taylor, Pierson Prioleau, Lemar Marshall, Domonique Foxworth). Another turnover was generated by a Sean Taylor forced fumble/recovery. The team limited the Raiders to just 180 total yards of offense.. less than a 3rd of what the Redskins gained.
At 10-0, we are still tied with the Panthers for first place in the league. Hopefully this game will give us enough momentum to get to the Super Bowl and win. The NFC is loaded right now, with the Panthers, Redskins, Seahawks, and Vikings as 4 of the best teams in the NFL, so we'll have competition. On the AFC side, the Patriots and Ravens are surging.
Unfortunately we lost MLB Lemar Marshall for 3 weeks. He was injured on his interception return. Rookie ROLB Robert McCune will take his place, but the spots in the nickel and dime formations that were occupied by Marshall will be taken over by starting OLBs marcus Washington and LaVar Arrington.

I run mostly out of nickel and dime sets. It's so effective with a fast HB like Clinton Portis. I subbed in Teyo Johnson and Chris Cooley as my two slot receivers in the dime formation, so there's extra blocking outside the tackles. If the running lanes don't look good, I'll just audible to a pass. It also helps that I'm a lot better at running than passing. I just have better stick skills when it comes to hitting holes and dodging defenders and setting up my blocks, than using the passing cone. That's why Portis was so successful in that last game (vs Oakland) piling up 193 receiving yards, because I'd hit him in open space. With one or two spin moves/jukes, I could gain 15-20 yards easy.
Unfortunately, there's bad news ahead, which I will post soon.

Redskins Franchise Devastated
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/photo/2005/04/26/PH2005042601370.jpg
NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue makes remarks at a press conference regarding the recent Redskins scandal
Associated Press (AP) -- The Washington Redskins have officially fallen apart. The league's most prosperous and financially successful team, finally earning their money by approaching an undefeated season (at 10-0 so far), has been left in shambles by a scandal that has rocked the team's players and forced their owner to resign.
Reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein have uncovered massive amounts of evidence that suggests that Redskins owner Rhythmatic has been supplying the 'Skins with performance enhancing drugs. Among the players implicated are LT Chris Samuels, RT Jon Jansen, ROLB LaVar Arrington, DT Anthony Bryant, ex-CB Walt Harris, FB/TE Chris Cooley, TE Teyo Johnson, and RG Randy Thomas. It has yet to be discovered whether star players FS Sean Taylor and HB Clinton Portis are involved, but judging by their ridiculous stat totals, it would not be surprising if they are implicated.
The Redskins owner, apparently resigned to the fact he is guilty, has stepped down from his ownership position. The League has gained control of the franchise and new ownership will be saught for. The scandal has rocked the football-crazy town of Washington DC, devastating the fans and the teams' Super Bowl aspirations. With the Redskins neck-to-neck with the Carolina Panthers in the race for an undefeated season, what would have been a memorable stretch run now seems unlikely, with the impending suspensions inevitable. NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue said at a press conference today that he will be discussing the issue with the players' union, and that suspensions will be handed out within the week.
The Redskins were fresh off of a 63-3 crushing of the Oakland Raiders, the largest win in franchise history.

Basically, my game crashed when I loaded it after the Oakland game, and after that it's been telling me the file is corrupt. I had a backup file but it was at least 3 games ago, and it's just not the same to try to recreate them. I tried to come up with some story to mimic the corruption, and this is it. Thanks for reading the 'chise while it lasted, clearly with almost 1400 views a lot of you have been reading. I'll probably start up a new 'chise soon.

The entire thing .. beautifully written .. and beautifully ended (storyline wise).
Except of course the corrupt file part. I don't suppose theres anyway to save a back-up on PC, eh? I have backups of both my SU and Atlanta Franchises on a 2nd memory card.
Dude. I am demanding that you start another 'chise. Whenever. I'll say no more. (

Yeah, it sucks.. it's not a huge deal though, cuz I can start another franchise and go in-depth in that too. I don't think I'll be using an actual team for the next one.. it'll definitely be a bit more unusual if it works out.
It doesn't automatically back up files for you.. I back it up every once in awhile, usually when I'm using the Madden editor for PC just so that it doesn't mess up. But last time I backed it up was in week 7 or something, and I'd have to play those 3 or 4 games again, and change the recaps and such. It just wouldn't be interesting and I probably would be too lazy to do it. I like starting new franchises anyway.. I'll definitely start one sometime this weekend. My online Madden phases last only for 5 games or so before I'm sick of being disconnected.

I just got this game 4 days ago and started a Redskins chise yesterday on Pro. I hadn't read any of the Madden forum stuff until today. I did many of the things you did in your chise.
1) Replaced Brunell as starter. You were using Campbell and I used Ramsey bc Brunell was injured in preseason.
2) Signed a TE. You signed Teyo Johnson. I actually traded ROLB Warrick Holdman for Kansas City's #2 TE Jason Dunn. Robert Royal was injured for the season and I noticed I was throwing to the TEs a lot. I think the guy from KC dropped one pass all year.
3) Signed a FB. I actually signed a guy that I didn't use that much.
4) Noticed the deficiency at DT. Since I am importing rosters from NCAA, I kind of know who is coming up in the draft and am shaping my team for the future. I drafted DT Gerald Anderson from U of Georgia. I also brought in DT Kindal Moorehead. Along with Griffin we actually have DTs from Alabama. It seems my team is intentionally becoming a place for Crimson Tide alums. I also brought in CB Reggie Myles and SS Tony Dixon.
However, I didn't resign LG Derrick Dockery. I drafted LG Grayling Love from ASU and LG Taitusi Lutui from USC. Probably going to be weak this upcoming year, but future potential is probably really good.
I still have to address the DE problem. However, I cannot wait until the 2009 - 2011 drafts. I have 3 guys on my Alabama team I want to draft. A CB who is always on top of everything, a SS who is probably the best I've ever had, and a ROLB who is a monster. The ROLB won the Heisman as a RS Frosh with 50+ sacks.
Oh, and I picked up WR/RET Dante Hall from KC in the offseason. Going to be interesting with Hall and Moss on the same team this year.

You know, Jason Dunn probably only dropped one pass all year because he barely gets any passes. The ball almost always goes to Tony Gonzalez or Priest Holmes/Larry Johnson.
Priest Holmes/Larry Johnson? What am I thinking? Its all LJ now:p
