Have any of you ever noticed any glitches pop up every now and then in ranking of the top 25 teams. For the most part from what I have seen it seems to be pretty accurate.

I like to keep track of the yearly rankings and write them down on paper because I like to do this thing on my own where I rank the top 25 programs of the decade. Anyway last year the rankings seemed alright and good until the final poll when a 4-7 Kansas team all of a sudden appeared at #25. I had to look into it a bit to see if there was any reason why it may have been that way because the year before a 6-6 Iowa team finished #19. But I looked at their schedule and they had beaten like 4-5 top 25 teams (and three of them were in the top 10) so that made since after I saw that. But when I started investigating Kansas they hadn't beaten anybody who was ranked (and very few with a winning record either) so there was no reason they should have been ranked #25.

So when I looked at the other receiving votes for the coaches poll I noticed that Florida had the top number of votes on that list and in the media poll Florida was in fact #25 (who was a respectable 7-5 for a #25 ranking). So on my list I wrote down I just replaced Kansas with Florida at #25.

Have any of you guys ever noticed any glitches pop-up like that every now and then with the rankings. That is the first one I ever really noticed that seemed out of place.

how do you see others recieving votes?

the polls are complete bull**** to me. i always have major problems with this. last season i played the #2 #4 and #6 teams in the first 3 weeks and beat them all. i only moved up to about 20 after beating the 3rd one. michigan was 0-2 after the first 2 weeks and #12 i was 2-0 #24 in one poll ur in the other. i won the rest of my games and stayed behind them all until a 3rd loss. (iowa michigan and florida were the teams) i jumped from 6-2 after the conf champ games.

the bcs formula is screwed because the entire top 10 often has a 1.000 so it comes down to the human polls every time. a few years back they had it perfect with quality wins and sos (but then again they also ****ed the real one up too)

I think it has something to do with how much of a mainstay the team has been in the polls in the past. I noticed this in the '03 version and I assume it would be the same in the '06 version. If a team has been a perenial top 10-20 team for several years and they happen to have a down year they will more than likely drop down rather slowly. Where as a team who has not been a consistent top team for very long (and they happen to have a down year) they will free fall down the polls.

The same I think can be said of entering into the polls. A team that was a consistent power who happened to have a down year the previous season but has started winning again will often enter back in rather quickly. Where as a team who doesn't have much history of being in the polls will enter into the top 25 a bit more slowly.

Well i have notice something when playing. And it happen to USC this last year too. I start off #1. Keep playing and never loose, but some how go down to #2 or even on rare occasions #3. Now this just seems stupid, because if you come in #1 and havnt lost, you deserve to stay #1. RIGHT?

I just had that happen to me. I was #1 all year and colorado was a very close second. They played #4 Nebraska the same week I played Georgia who was unranked. It was a close game between them and Colorado came out on top while I just obliterated Georgia. The following week, the Coaches gave CO more first place votes (i think like 5 more than me) and they took the top spot but I remained on top in the media.
So I guess u and i dropped because more coaches believe that #2 played well enough for them to change their votes. At least the AP got it right who's top dog.

I see come abnormailities here and there, but two seasons ago I was absolutely floored by the voting, both coaches and media. Miami played a tough schedule in the ACC, beat 5 top 25 teams, and went undefeated. Michigan played a sh*t schedule (the Big 10 was aweful that year) wailed on everyone, but lost a game to Indiana of all schools. Who did the polls vote #2, Michigan of course. Who ended up as the #4 nod-MIAMI! Not only did the polls and the BCS screw them out of a national title shot, they knocked them down to #4 and they were 12-0. The #3 slot went to an Auburn squad with one loss; an a$$ whooping I dished out in the SEC Title game. Sometime I think that EA does this crap on purpose.

I think that all has to do with the whole strength of schedule thing they have added into the system which creates the polls.

Has anybody had a situation happen to them that I stated before where a team with a losing record (like Kansas was at 4-7) was ranked at the end of the year.

I do not recall anyone with a losing recored in the top 25 but I'll pay more attention to it. I usually look at the top 10 and kind of scan the rest real quickly.

I think that another factor is your recruiting class but I'm not sure yet.

That would have something to do with the preseason rankings but not the final rankings at the end of the season though.

In '05 I was ranked #1 and I beat a decent Auburn team by over 100 points and dropped to #2. It happens a lot.
