Week 8 tip: mix up your playcalling on offense and on defense. Trust me, this can play big dividends in keeping your opponent off balance. Here’s a really good example of that. Take me for instance, many of you know that I love to throw WR screens and know what formations that I like to throw them from. I’ll purposely come out in that set numerous times during the game but won’t show the screen. This is done on purpose, to get you to think that I won’t throw it. On defense, a well timed blitz here and there may be just enough to keep your opponents off balance. If you blitz on one 3rd down, try either blitzing from another position (say CB blitz instead of LB’s) or try just dropping back into coverage but showing a blitz look.

Team on the Rise: Central Michigan. Where in the hell did these guys come from? Don’t look now, but they are sitting pretty with a 5-2 record. They’ve got some tough inter-division games lined up though to close the season out. Sgt. Heartman is creeping up on you guys, better watch out.

Team on the Fall: New Mexico State. Man, I don’t know what’s going on here. NMS was a pre-season favorite to win it all and has since fallen off the wagon. Heavy hasn’t been playing as much lately and that probably has something to do with it. That and the fact that we all are getting a little fed up with some aspects of this game. NMS could be in danger of not even making the playoffs if they don’t get things turned around quickly.

At the time of me writing this, we have 3 games that went uplayed last week which is a vast improvement from where we were a few weeks ago. Great job guys. 3 isn’t a great number, but it’s far, far better than 9. 3 I can live with. Seriously though guys, you’re all doing a much better job as far as scheduling games and getting them in ontime. This weeks no shows were: GoHuskies, ROCKZILLA, ZachArt, J-Train, Trjannole, and Swampee. Get em’ in guys.

GOTW: Miami (OH) (Seena) 27 @ Kansas (Avenge) 14
The Redhawks jumped ahead 14-0 and never looked back as they watched the Jayhawks offense stall, spit, and sputter. The Jayhawks defense never really came to play in this one as they gave up 322 yards of total offense. Coach Seena wants everyone to know that he’s come to play. He started off this season kind of sluggishly, but has since emerged as one of the hottest teams around. Miami QB, Josh Betts followed up a phenomenal week 6 with a solid week 7 performance going 13-20 passing for 234 yards and 3 td’s to earn player of the game honors. $1000 worth of scholarship money will be given to Miami (OH) in his name for his outstanding performance.

ECU (M-dub) 31 @ UL Monroe (Keith) 24
We all know winning hasn’t been accustomed to the Pirates from ECU, but if they don’t start posting up some type of recap when they do, commissioner djwill has threatened to put his foot up coach M-dub’s rear. All bs aside, dub may or may not make the playoffs, but don’t sleep on him. He’s a proven coach that can bite you if you take him lightly. ECU only needed to score in 2 quarters to put this one away, putting up 10 in the 2nd and 21 in the 3rd. UL Monroe (from looking at the box score) seems like they couldn’t stop the run as ECU put up almost 250 yards on the ground.

Illinois (Nevada) 14 @ MTS (BCSIRISH) 27
This game goes to show you that stats can be misleading. Just from looking at the score, you’d assume that the blue raiders jumped out early and just cruised to victory. Not the case here. The Illini came to play in this one and almost got an upset. Illinois only had 184 yards of total offense in this one, but they made up for that wish some key turnovers, forcing 4. The blue raiders were able to fight off their turnover demons and sneak away with the victory however. With the score 19-14 in the 4th, the blue raiders were able to put the game away with another score to make the game 25-14 and would convert on their 2 point conversion to ice the game at 27-14.

La Tech (TDC) 17 @ North Carolina (kokotan) 21
From the look of things, UNC got outplayed in this one, until you look at one stat line. Turnovers. The bulldogs had 3, compared to the Tar Heels 0. UNC jumped out to an early 14-0 lead, but La Tech made a valiant effort to get back in the game scoring 3 before the half and putting up another 14 in the 2nd half. It just wasn’t enough as their turnovers killed them La Tech is another team that started off the season red hot and has fizzled out lately. Can they get things back on track? This game marked win #2 for kokotan. Rumor has it that fans at Chapel Hill aren’t quite ready for basketball season. Could the Tar heels be headed for the playoffs? They’ll need a lot of luck and a lot of help, but it could happen…….

New Mexico State (Heavy) 9 @ Tulane (djwill) 45
Tulane is on fire lately and is playing awesome football winning their 5th game in a row. Chris Dawson continues to put up solid numbers game in and game out. This clash of titans really didn’t even play up to the hype, but that wasn’t necessarily heavy’s fault as he pretty much got screwed over the whole game. The entire game could be determined from one series of plays where Tulane scored 21 points in about 1 minute. Coach djwill is finally making some noise with Tulane and is sitting pretty atop his division with some pivotal games still left to play.

Oklahoma St (Quack) 0 @ Central Michigan (Sgt. Heartman) 14
Alright, the Chippewas should be pretty accustomed to winning considering they are 5-2, they are another team that commissioner djwill has threated to kick in the rear for not leaving game reports. From the looks of things though, this one seemed like it was a bit of a struggle for Central Michigan. The chips were able to put up 7 early in the 1st, but neither team would score again until the chips scored another 7 in the 4th to ice it.

Rutgers (Chain Crew) 10 @ Temple (Gamersfuel) 30
Alright gamers, you know how it’s done too. Post a recap man, at least something even if it’s just 2 sentences, say something. Man, looking at the stats, this was one ugly game. Only 405 yards of total offense for both teams COMBINED. I guess this is another game that could be summed up by looking at one stat line. Turnovers, Rutgers 5, Temple 3. That’s about all I can get from this one though.

SDSU (ondaperimeter) 42 @ Navy (Born) 21
Who needs to pass when you can put up over 200 yards rushing? The Aztecs put up a whopping 277 yards on the ground and the middies put up 209. Seems like the Navy defense, which has played fairly decent when you consider the talent level compared to the other teams in the league, came up short in this one. Most interesting stat has to be turnovers considering Navy didn’t force any. Navy’s been one of those teams that has relied on turnovers all season and just couldn’t get any in this one.

USF (blueweeds) 25 @ FIU (Jdubb) 35
The battle of florida proved to be a good game after all. Coach Jdubb has been one heck of a streaky coach this season, winning when he shouldn’t and loosing when he should win. FIU was led by their aerial assault in this one as QB Josh Padrick put up POTW type numbers going 12-17 passing for 362 yards and 5 td’s with 1 int. USF actually jumped out to an early 10-0 lead, but the golden panthers would jump right back putting up 14 of their own unanswered points to go into the break with the lead 14-10. FIU was able to put up another 14 points in the 3rd, but USF answered right back with 7 of their won to make the game 28-17 going into the 4th. The panthers would score another 7 in the 4th to make it 35-17. Not wanting to give up, the bulls started their own aerial barrage and were able to score to make the game 35-23. USF would then score on their 2 point conversion to bring the game within 10 at 35-25. The bull’s defense was able to force a punt from the panther’s offense and got the ball with some time left on the clock. Still needing to score, they went to the pass again, only to be picked off. FIU would hold on for the win and clinches the title of florida’s best.

Uconn (Kaidog) 28 @ Kentucky (gettingawn) 21
Uconn’s been another one of those teams lately that has slipped through undetected to a 5-2 record. Uconn would jump out to an early lead and would actually head into the half up 21-0. Coach awn, not a stranger to adversity, must have given one heck of a halftime speech though because the wildcats were able to claw back into this one, but just couldn’t come back from such a deficit.

UNLV (nibblesfly) 6 @ Nevada (West C Bruin) 31
Here’s a different stat other than turnovers that could tell you who won this one. Total offense: UNLV 138, Nevada 313. This one wasn’t even close as even coach nibbs said he was outcoached. Tell you what, Nevada has been another really hot team as of late

Alright, no more talk about missed games from me (at least until next week, hopefully I won’t have to anymore though). I’ve got something special for you guys. This week, I’ll be taking a look into the divisions and give you all a division by division break down to give you some insight on what’s going on in our league.

Each division is unique in it’s own way, as you’re about to see here soon. First off, we’re gonna start off with the behemoth of all the divisions, the Northeast division

Did you know that this division features 6 teams currently ranked inside the top 12 in the league? Yeah, it’s save to say this is the toughest division to play in. As of right now, Uconn currently leads the division (3-0 in division play), but Middle Tennessee State does have a game or 2 that they need to make up and could over take them. Actually, those 2 teams are due to play each other this week. Kentucky’s been playing pretty well lately and they should make a good push to get into the playoffs. The sleeper team of this division has to be coach Trojannole who’s led the Commodor’s to an unexpected 3-2 record. Temple and Rutgers are still both trying to find themselves. One week they play great, the next week it’s like they fail to show up. One of them probably won’t make the playoffs. Illinois’ fate isn’t looking so bright right now, unless they get some serious wins here real fast. Look for them to make an upset or 2 though. Look for this division to send 5 teams to the playoffs though, could possibly be 6, but that’s not likely to happen.

The West Coast division is one that still puzzles me. As of the time of this publishment, they currently have the #1 and #2 teams (ranking wise) in the league in Tulsa and Nevada. Those 2 are squaring off this week also and whoever wins should hold a “cobra clutch” on their division. After those 2 teams though, the rest of the division seems to drift off to mediocracy. SDSU, Colorado State, and UNLV are all sitting as middle of the road teams and are on the proverbial “bubble”. Look for one of them to bust the playoff scene, my luck’s riding on Coloroda State. New Mexico State has probably been the let down of the season . Coach Heavy will need to pretty much win out if he has hopes of making the playoffs. May even need a little bit of help. Congrats to Navy and coach Born. He’s improved the middies record from last season and is at least boosting not 1 but 2 wins this season. Not very likely that they’ll make the playoffs, but at least it’s an improvement. Navy has been the upset specialists lately though, look for them to possible spoil someone’s playoff hopes.

The Mid West division is pretty solid, posting 3 teams in the top 10 with Miami (OH), Central Michigan, and Kansas. Miami has the stronghold on the division and has been pretty hot lately. They may want to check in their rear view mirror though because Central Michigan has come out of no where boosting their 5-2 record. All 3 teams should make the playoffs though. Western Michigan, Arkansas St, and Akron all have a slim chance to make the playoffs and will need to win out (probably) to do so. Still though, they all have the ability to knock teams off that will be vying for a playoff birth. Especially be weary of Western Michigan. Congrats to coach quack who at least won a game this season with Oklahoma State. That’s a vast improvement from his 0-10 stint here in the NR4HL last season. In my opinion though, he still has one more win in him and maybe even another. He just always seems to catch bad breaks from EA.

Ah yes, and now for the South. What can I say about this division? It’s been like a roller coaster for almost every team in this division. Division leader Tulane started off the season 0-2, but has since gone on to a 5 game winnig streak. FIU is coming off an emotional win from the battle of Florida. If the panther’s wish to go into the playoffs as a division leader, they may want to hope they can knock off Tulane this week. USF has been one shaky team lately. Coach blueweeds must be “under the influence” of “something” when he plays. Either that, or it’s not enough. One or the other. He’ll need to get his troops in gear if he has hopes of making the dance. La Tech started off the season as a surprise team and was ranked as high as 5th I believe going 3-0. Since then, however, they’ve gone on to lose 4 in a row and are in serious danger of missing the post season action. UNC’s been making some noise lately fellas. They may be the upset specialist of the division. Coach M-dub is making a solid effort with ECU considering he took over a program that was in disarray and has led them to 2 victories. He’s another one you may want to watch out for. Last but not least, we have UL Monroe who is looking for their 2nd win of the season. Coach Keith can do it, but who will be the victim?

Well guys, hope you enjoyed this, I’m bored here at work with nothing better to do lol, so I figured I’d write this up. I’m just glad that at least everyone in the league has at least 1 win. We’ve still got 4 weeks to go and lots can happen between now and then!

First of all great write-up DJ.I really enjoyed the the division break down.

Second, I'm really sorry about the lack of me writing game recaps and the such. One reason is because my "m" button and space bar are totally gone now. And the B button is getting shaky. This computer is almost 8 years old and is shot.A new one might come soon though. This and all my posts on this board are done by copying and pasting the space and m.This can be REALLY tedious and lately i have been putting off there caps becuase of this and then they never get done.

Also the explorer as been acting up and its kind a hit or miss of me getting online. So if Anyone really needs to get a hold of me, just send me a message on the game and i'll get it. Im on every day.

Another thing i was wondering about is how many teams will make the playoffs this season and will conference winners be determined on overall or conference records. On the page it looks like overall.

I think its my turn to do a weekly report this week, but thats not a problem.Last time i used another computer and it will be no problem to get access to that again.

And the coputer i use is a laptop and just bying another keyboard wont work on this one.

no prob chain. well, we've got 28 teams, so i was thinking of going with possibly 12 teams for the playoffs and possibly having a play in game. confrence winners will be determined by division play (which LD doesn't break down, but i'm keeping track) first, then overall record. yeah, week 8's report is on you, but let me know if you can't do it man. i was bored as all get out today at work, so i had a little extra time to go deeper into things than usual. i don't mind doing them if you or avenge can't. it's just a little easier if i know that i need to do it in advance so i can set aside time to do them. just keep me posted man and do what you can.

as far as writing game reports goes, it's just easier for the writers to determine what actually happened and maybe give a little more insight when we have some type of direction to go with.

Yeah i was afraid of just 12 teams.lol
When i was 3-0 i was gonna suggest just 12,It might not be good for me now,but i still think thats what we should go with.

Yeah i'll definately do the writeup next week.
