View Full Version : Morality of Madden in decline?

Is it just me or has the honor of Madden players taken a severe nose dive the past month? I'm not talking about players who use 'cheese' and just high pass all day (Although that is becoming more and more common), I'm talking about ethernet pulling and stalling.
Within the span of six games, I've been ethernet pulled twice during a game-winning pressure kick from under 45 yards and stalled once. . All of these players had very respectable records, played 100+ games and had no Xs on their reputation.
Furthermore, two other games were against curl high pass junkies. I wouldn't consider them 'dishonorable,' but I do feel that it hurts the experience of the game. Yes, I do know how to slow down curls (purple zone, bump and run, hit stick, etc.), but when it comprises of 75% of someones offense it makes the game dull
Am I just having a bad week, or has this happened to anyone else?
Btw I might as well introduce myself since this is my first post. I'm a PSII user and have visited these forums for tips for several months now. My SN is KillingMyGPA, I have a 130-90 record or something, and my favorite Madden team is the Rams. Nice to meet you all

I understand that you are new, but quite frankly, nobody cares about this topic. Come here and talk strategy, not about how fumed you are about glitchers. I understand how frustrating it can make you (It happens to all of us), but here isn't the place to talk about it.

how people actually choose to play someone by whether they have X's in their reps. It means NOTHING. People send bad feedback often times when you blow them out, or crowd the line, or any little stupid reason. Reps wth X's doesn't always means someone cheats. The true judge I use is always DNF%, because you can't manipulate that. People can just send you bad feedback for the helll of it and ruin your rep. Theres nothing stopping them. Anybodys rep can be ruined for nothing, just because somebody was mad they lost.

I say that it is acceptable for you to come here and vent once in a while(just about everyone else does). This forum use to be about statagy, but it's really not anymore. We use to really share tips, formations, money plays,etc...But this year has taken a major turn.My appologies if this is offensive to some but I'm not directing it to everybody that frequents here. And everyone may not agree, and thats ok.But I am gonna voice my opinion. Most of the time when people are seeking help they are told to "lab" and figure it out that way. When in all reality, there isn't a whole lot of originality anywhere. Most get their info. from the filmroom and then expand from there. Also from the many guides that VG works so hard to produce for us.I really would like to see a little more "grace" offered to people around here.Especially to someone making his first post.I do want to thank everyone throughout the years that have taken the time to go into depth to help people out around here. But as of late, this place has become pretty shallow.

Your point is taken that this is a "Madden strategy" forum, but I didn't know where to else to post it. In my experience, Madden strategy tends to also include other general Madden discussion. Yes I know that doesn't change the fact that the issue I raised is not a strategy issue, but I doubt anyone's head is going to explode when they see that this thread is in Madden strategy.
My recent online experience is "frustrating", but the primary reason for me to post it here isn't for me to "fume." After being stall glitched and ethernet pulled in half my last six games, I'm wondering if I'm just unlucky or whether I should stick to playing people on my friends list. The thread was a serious question, not a rhetorical one.
On the issue of the "Xs," I do agree that someones Madden reputation is not always accurate on how "straight" a Madden player is. The staller paused the game and remarked "I know you cheat, see you later" before he began stalling me and refused to answer my question of how I was cheating. Its just from my experience that someone with a bad reputation has a higher CHANCE of being a glitcher than someone with a good one.

you would hope that the cheese Dicks who do have to cheat to win, would go away and wouldn't continue, but for some reason they continue to stay. I just don't see the enjoyment someone would get knowing they have to cheat to win and continue to play the game consistenly. You would also think that cheating would diminish, but as the community dewindles, so will the great players, and so the chances of playing a cheater will increase.

The nature of man is and will always be, do whatever it takes to win. Not just in Madden, just PERIOD. It sucks, but that's just how people are.
Heck, I've resorted to Curls once or twice in league games to save me. (not counting the season in NFR when i was the Ravens. I resorted to Curls about 5 times a games then, LOL)

I don't find any of the curls or high passing cheating.. I just don't seem to have the problems a lot people have defending it.
Curl routes aren't hard to stop nor is it cheating. Its your oppoenents fault for allowing the WR to get position for the curl route.
Cheating to me is doing the punt glitch, stalling on FGs or Kickoffs, running to the back of the end zone for a safety to hold on the kick off so you opponent quits and you as well can quit or go for the Win... Those are just some of the things i beleive are what the original post was referring to as cheating. And the frequency of it is greater now with the Madden community slowly dewindeling.

It's not our fault when there are 4 defenders around the WR, and he still makes the catch.

Madden went down hill twds the end of 04 and has never recovered. People care way to much about winning and all these leagues and tourneys premote the desire to win at all cost. People need to remeber how to have fun again..
I think EA should allow one account with 2 names and thats it. I think its probly worse on PS2 then on Box. But over all I can't stand the direction most Madden sites have gone. Its all about beating the pants off the other people online. It should be about having fun and promotion good sportsmanship.

Who said Madden is and/or should be a "tool of measuring morals"?
And pepper spray got the idea of what I was trying to say. I don't think that people who just toss curl routes all day should be put in the same boat as an ethernet cord puller, I just think it makes the game more boring.
I think most of you people are getting the wrong idea that this is a cheater hater thread (although I can definitely see how it is). The thread was basically an observation, that I will concede was inspired by frustration, that I noticed from my recent experiences playing Madden. Even though the FG block glitch, the ethernet pulling, the stall glitch, etc. have been known in the Madden community for years now, for some reason it is becoming far more prevalent now than it was four months ago. At least it SEEMS to be from MY experience playing Madden. Obviously as one player I am a very small sample of the entire Madden community and can't make such a broad generalization and expect it to be 100% accurate, therefore I'm posing the question to you members of Maddentips.com to see if it is true. Hence the name of the thread is a question, not a statement.

i know Madden isnt about morals, but if you cheat it shows that you dont care how others feel because your playing against a real person not the cpu

Amen. I don't get it it, some Madden players must have some real personality issues. I've been playing about a year and half and have gotten "fair." No stick, still can't read coverage worth a darn but I gotten good enough to win at least half my games. I remember learning and being blown out by guys, 40+ to zip. So now when I am up by three td's, I basically run every down and punt every 4th. there is no need to crush somebody that is obviously the lesser player.
But I still run into peeps that will try to score with 30 secs on the clock and a commanding lead, or going for 2 after every TD. I could be generous and assume they are just practicing at my expense, or maybe they're trying to let me learn how to defend against their scheme. But my suspscion is that a few of 'em have got "issues" and want to grind their heel in your face. But the way I was raised, that's not sportsmanship.
And yeah, it is a video game but sportsmanship transends the game...whatever it is.

anyway, u get what u give, if u send em a message like "good play" or "nice catch" and just give em there props when deserved instead of saying "your mother", you are less likely 2 get glitched 2 to the fact that the human nature isnt cruel, just when it has 2 be and feels ones superiority at stake, think about it...

No amount of trash talk justifies cheating. Err... I mean "no one cares about what your stupid *** thinks bud".
The problem this year is that there are only a handful of strategies that are used regularly. I have people come out in SB- 2 TE and run their slam, then run a post or corner to their TE, then do it again. It doesn't matter what I do... they are gonna do that up and down the field. Now, sure, you stop it. Most of the time it doesn't become an issue. But it just sucks that people have devolved into needing three tricks to get them by.
I will grant that last years game was a little silly at times, all with the juke glitch, nanos, and the over-effectiveness of corner routes. But generally speaking you ran into more strategies.
This years high pass takes away from the strategy. Toss it up to your TE... forget the three guys who are covering him. That is lame.
Now, Hangtime, you go ahead and do your preachy, high road bull****. :D

The true judge I use is always DNF%, because you can't manipulate that.
I know firsthand that DNF% doesn't mean anything. If you play some loser and with time remaining, he pulls the plug, discos or you get bounced from the server, it goes as a DNF. Also, if you play in a tournament or quick tournaments & your opponent either has a weak arse connection or cannot connect, you will feel inclined to jump ship from that tourney. If you do, yet again, your DNF is impacted. I don't think there is a way to guage if a player is for real or not until AFTER you play him. If he runs the same BS defense, high curly ish or does any other funny stuff, then you will know then.

Great attitude .... but it's not shared by many. I was reading the thread about what crosses the line and the definition of str8 balling.... sooo many posters felt that playing str8 was just an excuse to lose. So pathetic to see people want to win so bad they'll do anything.

the built-in ranking system promotes the win-at-all-cost idea, and the fact that EA doesn't patch any of these glitches doesn't help anything.

Yes cheating has got out of control as a former cheater my self i can tell you i can tell half of my games glitch wars which is fun if you like that type of ball but its not sim football
as far as you only being able to have 2 names on an acount that wouldnt work because you can just make another account with a diiferent email address what they need to do is get ride of rank and level and just play for fun or practice because that all it is really

They should just get rid of rank, and get rid of W/L record.
That would be hilarious, bold, and possibly even smart.
Perhaps rank should only count against people on your buddy list. Somehow, they could come up with a way to make it pointless for people to do ANYTHING to get the win.
KillingMyGPA

Having a rank and win/loss record is possible. Before playing Madden online, I used to be a WarCraftIII player. Blizzard (The producer of WarCraftIII player) did a spectaculer job at creating a competitive online network called Battle.net
In Battle.net, you are matched up randomly with people around your 'level,' you have no option of declining the challenge. This is all part of a ladder system, where battle.net ranks all the players for everyone to see. If there are any glitches or abuses, Blizzard will patch and fix it.... IMMEDIATELY. Did I mention B.net is 100% free?
Therefore, if EA treated Madden like Blizzard treated WarCraft, Madden might look something like this.
1. There would be no FG block glitch
2. High jump would be drastically nerfed
3. There would be no stall glitch
4. Ethernet pulling would result in an immediate loss for the puller
It can be done. What a pity that EA doesn't give a crap as soon as their product is released. But hey, if its in the game, its in the game. Including all the horse crap
to be honest, i don't think cheating is very bad at all this year. i seriously have never been stalled, i'm lucky i guess.
i was so surprised, i just played this guy who was 465-69, and i actually beat him  , i don't know how, he was in the top 100. he conceded defeat to me, i was waiting to get stalled after i ran in the clinching TD. there's still some good players out there, and plus if you build a good friends list with vg guys, you can always get a fair game and be assured you won't be cheated out of your win.
