I am starting to go nuts at some of the linebackers in zone coverage. A big part of the reason for the run and chuck offense so popular these days is because when a defense runs zone, those linebackers cover unbelievable range. And on top of that, it seems that they have all been training with LeBron James and have discovered his secret to the 50 inch vertical.

But normally, flooding is the way to beat zones. If you make 1defender cover multiple recievers, it puts him in a pickel. But in NCAA 07' computer controlled players can jump routs like I have never seen before. I mean momentum and gravity have no affect on these guys. I was labbing for a while, and on a number of occasions watched linebackers standing at a dead halt interupt passes 10 yards away without taking 1 step. 1 giant leap to the side that covers 10 yards - unbelievable.

and the thing that gets me even more is their ability to cover deep without dropping deep. I mean linebackers can, in real life, cover fairly deep if they so choose, but that usually requires them to drop more than 5 yards. It is flat out impossible for them to, as soon as the ball is thrown, be at a dead sprint backwards, turn their head, find the ball, jump, and swat it down when the pass is over their head and about 15 yards behind them.

And the thing that kills me, is that as they make these amazing plays, they just as often swing and wiff on passes right next to them. Or, even worse, tip the pass that is right to them right to the reciever who is 5 yards behind them (for the touchdown).

But the superhuman abilities of linebackers in zone coverage just drives me nuts. i rarely run zone myself because people just throw deep over top of it, but as far as short coverage is concerned it can't be matched.

Yeh i've had a lot of problems with that as well..

Usually what I've done is throw it high using precision passing. I haven't had a problem with LB's picking my ball yet. But, you have to have a QB who has a high accuracy rating. And it helps to have a tall tight-end or WR.

ya I have my tall WR's on the outside and my QB's accuracy rating is 78 so that really isn't helping me much. If i precision high he floats the ball 40 yards downfield into the safeties, and if I bullet the ball at all it's getting picked. I've pretty much given up on the post 60% of the time when it would be otherwise open.
