I never used this formation before, but looking at the plays that are in it, I was really excited about giving it a shot. Seems like there's good deep coverage and good mobile QB contain plays in there - useful since my buddy is a Falconiac.
Anyone have experience - good or bad with this formation?

I like it, it gets a good bump and you can do a lot with it. Its obviously weak vs the run though.

Does it really perform well against the mobile QB?

any set can do well against a fast QB, since there is 4 linemen and alot of speed on the field it is pretty good vs mobile QBs

Same here, either zone blitz, for the rollout guys or zone man x. That one can really confuse the hurry up o dudes.

A great way to play a tampa 3 is in this formation.
The play is called "cover 2 spy".
Step 1
I like to flip the play so my #1 DT is playing the spy.
-keys to him being the spy assit in i 2 gap run support. Usualy he is the hardest guy to block on your team so using him is key.
-He also acts in under coverage to the TE and FB in middle short pattern passing. You will need it because your MLB will be playing in a middle deep zone
Step 2
Spread the Dline wide R1 audible Dline audible
- do this in two step procedure by shifting to the strong side of the field meaing the wide side and not of the formation strong side. Then shift wide pressing up.
- Personaly i feal this slightly adjust the 2 gap cover of the WDT to take up as much middle as possiable. it also adjust the DE to outside contain and fan rush angle that is best when wider than the widest man. You will notice the angles used by this play are about the best fan rush in the game. It takes a second longer but puts constant outside pressure in pass rush and run containment.
- there will be 4 to 6 players playing over top persuit so its hard to block for long gains but allows lanes for solid 2-7 yard runs at times but consitantly holds to 3 yard carrys in the better match up scenarios. The corners are playing ultimate containment so its very hard to run outside.
Step 3
Spread the saftey coverage wide by triangle cover audible up two times for widest depth.
- your safteys need to be playing in deep third cover so they should be over the streak of A deep FL or SE wide.
Step 4
cover audible triangle right displaying a man coverage.
- this is mainly for match up example WR vs corner TE vs LB and FB. You dont want to be over matched in any case of run or short passing ie jump ball.
-Usage of this play as an audible is key for a sudo 4-3 or nickle match up vs base and 3 wr sets. I dont personaly feel the awarness hit is so bad for LB's playing in corner spots that they become too usless.
Step 5
Lastly take the MLB and change his zone to middle deep blue zone manualy up on the right anolog.
- This is tampa coverage as one of the best hitters and strongest guys on the team will gap the middle as deep as the deepest man based on his speed. I will also move him up to about 8 yards from LOS.
summery
This is an agressive coverage scheme to pass on Considered its 8 men in zone, and because of the depth of the hook zones played as well as the spy and over top cover it shadows the feild adequetly. Its not perfect but still effective because the rush is solid and the run support is decent when played intellegently.
Other intangables for and advanced use could be calling individual bump and run coverages on TE's RB's and slot receivers. Mainly you want to play agressive due to the 3 man rush and displace timming in any such passing style.
I also use the corner in man cover on pesky motioning Flankers but dont recomend it unless you know how to sustain the cover 2 with the MLB and of side saftey.

Good stuff.
Also check out the "4-3-Normal - Double QB Spy" play. The Default pass rush angles that the D-line take are very good for a "loop rush." Only 2 D-linemen do the aggressive looping, the SDT & SDE, but I usually flip the play if my intention is to get heat on the opposite side with the WDT & WDE.
This play is Cover2 as well, but you can definitely turn it into a Tampa2 like you said above. Or Playmaker an OLB to blitz and or playmaker the OLBs to purple zones.
Quarters-ZoneBlitz is also another good Cover2 play to enhance by playmakering the D-line to loop rush so it negates their zoneblitz dropbacks and playmakering the MLB to a hook or deep zone.
