I've never known if there are any pros and cons to being a certain player on defense at the snap. Can someone please tell me which is the best and whats good about each?:D

If you read through these threads you will find that the better players control one of the Safetys.

I'm not good enough to do that, I always just control and End or Tackle... sometimes a LB. I do that cuz I don't want take the guy out of the scheme and I can't read the plays fast enough to control a safety.
So I control a lineman and switch as the play developes.

Personally, my stick dictates that I play DT...my assignment is easiest this way. Plus I get more passes batted down, and picks if I switch over when the pass is thrown. But I also have to play a bend but don't break type of defense to be effective. I'm sure the type of defense you play will dictate where you should play.

I always control the saftey, it is the easiest way not to get burnt deep consistantly. You will give up big plays when you start, but after you work on it awhile it becomes easier to do.

can you still stop the run by using the safety?? because this might be my solution to stopping the deep ball. Should you switch when you blitz or should you just let the cpu handle that?

btw i currently use the MLB

I usually always use the MLB...I play with the Jags a lot and Mike Peterson is just super good. I tend to play the pass and contain though...so if I guy just runs weakside dives and stuff like that he can pound it on me. But the other night I had three picks (one returned for a TD) and sack...so I'm pretty good with a middle linebacker sideline to sideline, and then I just switch to whomever to wap down passes. I think it's all about being comfortable. Plus I've found that a lot of the time people will throw to the guy you're manually covering with one-on-one, so if you have good stick you can make them pay

It doesn't matter which player you choose... What matters is that you use them WELL.

You can wreak havoc with a DT, OLB, or a MLB, but your technique must be BETTER than someone that runs free with a safety... Odds are, you will be blocked more the closer you get to the LOS.

Either way, you can be effective with any defender, so long as you use them well.
