View Full Version : (kobra,Philly Ron) VP 4-3 scheme question
I'm not sure who did the write up but i've been working on the 4-3 scheme in the VP using the audbles. It tells what fronts and adjustments to make based on which side the TE or strong or weak alignment of the RBs but what about the SB big or twin TE sets? What's a good front for those sets? Also do you normally freeze the D when you use this scheme? In the 46 scheme Philly Ron (i think) said he could run that as a base and defend the run and pass well. I tried that and got torched can you elaborate either in the filmroom or here how you run it against different sets? Thanks guys nice write ups on all your stuff this year.

Ahhh I did that one. Yes the 46 Normal that Ron talked about in the filmroom would be a nice way to line up against Singleback Big. The reason why it was not included in the Playbook write up there was because I was using a specific team playbook and it did not have 46 normal.
Man you need to do a def playbook for real! That 4-3 write up is nice. Couple of questions,
You mentioned with a 7 man front there are 8 gaps and one player would be responsible for 2. Can you explain the 8 gaps for me?
When you use the 8 man front are there any guidelines you use as far as which saftey you bring down or any adjustments you make.
Can you show an example of the 8 man front with the cover 3 shell?
Sorry for all the questions but im just learning. Hope there not stupid. Love the write up though. By the way im using this for the 360.

Yes. When you have
.............TE...T...G...C...G...T
..........D.....C...B...A...A...B..C..D
The defense has to cover D to D on the run and this is always the case. You might say well there is no other TE here on the right. Yes, but if the Offense has a FB that is blocking off tackle and my defense is not holding down weak side D gap we are in trouble. Even without a FB if it is Singleback normal we still gotta have someone playing responsibility there because if we get the offense running a counter to the weak side without someone responsible for C and D we are in trouble.
So if I am simply going with a seven man front, I must get penetration somewhere or else I'm leaving a gap open for the offense to exploit. Either I get penetration, or I come up with a secondary player and man that gap.

Notice the secondary structure here. You got 1 player deep in the FS. You have 8 in the box here. This is the 3-4 defense with a 4-4 Application.
You are the man! I appreciate the tips. If you run out of stuff for the filmroom I think this would be some nice stuff just showing some of you Def setups vs different sets. I ran your 4-3 scheme the other night and it did a good job shutting down pretty much everything. The funny part was the guy went to the GL formation in the 4th and thanks to you I locked him up. He told me I was cheating.
