A few weeks ago I got a virus on my CPU and I didn't feel like dealing with fixing it so I just did what I have done in the past and choose the complete system restore option. I had to put in new product key given to me by microsoft because part of the key that came with my CPU ripped off. Anyway, after I typed in the key my CPU started working again, yet internet explorer won't open. :(. Whenever I try to open it I get a message saying choose program you want to use to open this file, I get three chooses: Painshop, fax, something else. None of these programs will open internet explorer and it's pissing me off. I just want to get on my CPU and download some por.... STUFF! Can anyone help me out here... I run windows XP home edition and all the software besides WORD came pre-installed on the unit.
BTW: I wish I had a MAC:) .

it is possible to "uninstall" IE. Do you happen to have firefox or another browser installed?
do a search on your hard drive for iexplore.exe try to run that.
The ability to Repair Internet Explorer does not exist in the version that ships with Windows XP. This feature only becomes available after you upgrade to a newer version. This is normal and has been this way since Windows 98 and IE4.
you can reinstall IE in Windows XP by clicking Start, Run and entering the following command:
rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132 %windir%\Inf\ie.inf
You will need to have your XP CD available.
Some people have problems with the command line above. A small VB Script that will execute the command for you can be downloaded here. http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts/xp_run_ie_setup.vbs
Save the file to your hard drive and double click it to run IE Setup.

Thx hawker.
I managed to fix the problem running iexploer.exe. I was able to get internet access and then I downloaded NETSCAPE and deleted IE... Although; I'm still gettting the blue screen of death every time I log on so I have to hit f8 and run it from that, but I'm just happy it works!

so you are running in safe mode? lol.
you gotta check your startup items (type msconfig from run box)
do a step by step elimination process, see what works.
google exe's and things you dont know.
any new hardware recently?
