I know my opnion changes. I love NCAA 07' when I'm winning and hate it when I'm losing blah blah blah ... but NCAA 07' really is a better game than Madden 07'. It plays smoother. BTW, I've found lately also that it will reward you for establishing a base D while mixing in a few risky plays every so often. You can play a base d and stop the run or pass if you discipline yourself to use the commit feature.
So those of you that still play it, I'll be on that more. Look me up and message me if you want a game.

I like NCAA better even though I miss: assigning my best DB to the other guy's best WR [is it called defensive assignment?]; man-lock; triangle/left d-pad [crowd box or show blitz]; .. . . . .hmmmm .. forgot what else but it doesn't matter.

Just send me a FR and I'll accept it (with a message saying you are from VG).
I agree though. There are cheesers on Madden too, and the PA Bomb can be hell to stop. I feel more in control on NCAA, even against cheesers. I'm 9-4 on Madden, but it just isn't as fun. On madden, you just play cover2man to stop the run (as odd as that sounds - blitzes get killed by the run) and hope your opponent doesn't abuse TE passes or PA bombs. I'm sure I am biased though. I enjoy madden, but I guess I am just an ncaa guy like always, even though you have to figure out a way to overcome the broken pass D manually on this year's version ... it's still fun.

I finally got Madden back from my friend, but in the meanwhile, I kind of grew to like this game. I still haven't put Madden in yet since I got it back, although I've been tempted a couple times when I see you or rhombic online.
I still think momentum is stupid, but I guess I've just come to accept it. From what little I've played of Madden, it seems to be just different enough from NCAA that I'd have to spend a whole bunch of time that I don't have labbing strategy and schemes and reading the Madden boards just to get to where I'm not a total joke online.
If I start to get frustrated with NCAA again, I might give it another whirl. Or maybe over Xmas break when I have a little more time on my hands. Then again, I might just retire from Madden with my undefeated online record intact. 1-0 baby! Woo hoo!

The thing that I like about Madden is that it really forces you to play disciplined on offense. There are a lot fewer HUGE plays. If you get into 2nd and 20 or 3rd and 15, you almost never convert. On NCAA, there are just so many big plays that long yardage doesn't really pose the same sorts of problems. How many times have you been in a situation where all you had to do was keep your opponent from going 80 yards in under a minute, and yet you already know that he's probably going to get the game winning TD? You don't see that on Madden. The other thing is with the run game. Like I said, there aren't as many huge plays on Madden, so you have to be more consistent. You have to learn how to put together 13 and 14 play drives, where a 4-6 yard run is considered a good play. Madden really rewards you for running where the hole is, rather than always trying to bounce it outside or freelance.
On NCAA I feel like I have to rely on things like unrealistic bump and run in order to stop people. On Madden I feel like I can play good solid D without relying on any gimmicks.
But I also agree about the PA bombs and the TEs. I am just way better at NCAA than I am at Madden, so I kind of enjoy it more just because I feel like I can adjust and make plays to win. I don't feel nearly as in control on Madden, and that's probably just because I don't know as much about NFL football in general, and I don't know the ins and outs of the game.

But to be honest, I would still play NCAA a lot if more people played it. That's the biggest thing that I miss. There's a very small group of sim style players, and I've already played most of them several times. And random games are really, really likely to be cheesers. I mean these boards are probably the most active NCAA oriented boards on the internet, as far as online play is concerned, and they're pretty dead. We have way more new threads these days about non-online play things, like real football or non-videogame related things, than we do about strategy or online games.
If NCAA had the same sort of online community as Madden does, then I'd probably never touch Madden. Sadly, it seems as though most of the online community has given up on NCAA in favor of Madden, which is probably how it will always be since EA makes a much bigger deal about Madden than they do about NCAA. Madden is just way more popular, partially because of the NFL, but mostly because EA spends a lot more time/energy promoting it and making it their flagship game. They have tournaments for cash prizes (there are people who play Madden professionally), they have TV shows about it, and they have TV specials about it. For NCAA the closest thing to a promotion is the Gamestop/EB tournaments where they give away a free copy of the game to the winner.

I enjoy madden a whole lot more. I have no trouble with PA (if you use pass commit against it blitzing players do not get fooled) and I have no trouble guarding the TE. At it's core, it's a chess match. No momentum to deal with. I user everything and those that do clearly have an advantage in the game.
I think the NCAA game stinks. But to each their own.

Madden is just a terrible game. Just terrible.
The deep ball is worse on Madden than on NCAA. On NCAA the WR will win a lot of jump balls, but at least the DBs are in the area. On Madden the DB is burned by 5+ yards on a simple streak. Even when you back the guy off.
And ****ing corner routes to TEs. Just stupid.
And the defensive schemes on Madden suck. No good zone blitzes at all.

Yeah, I dunno. I was into Madden pretty good about a week and a half ago, and then I entered this NCAA tournament on another site, so I started playing NCAA again (I ended up winning the tournament). Then tonight I decide to go back to Madden since the tournament was over, and it was seriously the least amount of fun that I've ever had playing a videogame online.
The deep ball on Madden seems worse than NCAAs, because the DBs get burned so incredibly badly that you can't even attempt to make a manual play. And the lack of BNR makes it virtually impossible to defend unless you play junk defenses that leave everything else open.
And the playbooks are retarded. Most of the blitzes don't work and just get burned (especially the man to man blitzes), and I still haven't found any great run defenses.
And it's really hard to use any kind of juke to make somebody miss in the open field. It's all basically just straight line running where speed and raw power is the be-all end all. You either better be able to run by them or run over them, because you aren't going to make them miss.
And the vision cone is a good concept, but it still feels really clunky, and I take a ton of sacks where I hit the button and the QB takes forever to throw the ball. Plus, the lighting makes it really hard (for me at least) to read the defense.
And Kickoff returns are insanely dumb.
I just feel like NCAA gives you a lot more room for creativity on both offense and defense. And despite the fact that it's arcadey in a lot of ways, it actually feels more like real football than Madden does to me.
Madden to me has just as many flaws as NCAA does, but doesn't have the fun factor.
Also, 4 minute quarters, with a 45 second playclock is ****ing lame.

I like em both. This year I havn't got into Madden yet fully. Normally I get NCAA and play it until Madden comes out and by then I'm ready to switch. But this year NCAA is holding on longer for me.

I think the problem with your analysis, along with others, is that you are clearly a novice at madden so it clouds your judgement. The deep ball is not worse at madden. I rarely give up the deep ball. Corner routes to the TE? Bracket the TE and click on the defender, it's just like any other route. No good zone blitzes? There is plenty of heat. I have found a multitude of great blitzes. It sounds like you are looking for a stock play with no adjustments, which is fine, but if you run stock plays without setting up coverage behind blitzing defenders you're gonna get destroyed.
I understand the devotion that a lot of you guys have with NCAA, but I don't even see the comparison.

I'm not defending Madden but corner routes are much worse on NCAA. On Madden they have a zone specifically for stopping corner routes that works so I really doubt its that big of a problem. Also, committing to the pass will stop a deep bomb basically every time on Madden. I'm pretty sure that hasn't changed since the last time I played Madden online. The zone blitzes do suck from what I remember but you can hot route a guy to any zone that you want so you can make your own zone blitzes that can be effective if you have enough time to set it up pre-snap.
Madden and NCAA aren't that bad to me(well NCAA offline and Madden online aren't that bad to me). Madden is probably a little bit better though overall thanks to all the things you can do to stop people defensively.

Sorry guys but the deep ball is 50 times worse on NCAA, for those who say differently try playing hardcore ranked games (all-madden) I would almost bet that you guys are just playing regular ranked games (all -pro).
