View Full Version : 3-3-5 vs the run
I played a guy that ran all over me last night. He went right through my 4-6 normal and 4-3 over/under fronts for 3 straight quarters. In the fourth I was just messing around and started calling the 3-3-5 and it did better vs the run than anything else I ran. My only adjustment was freezing the D and making sure my LBs were behind the Dline. Anyone else have any luck with some out of the ordinary formations that do a good job of slowing down the pound? I'm not talking about the GL this was mostly I form normal and stuff like that. The lb dogs and monster blitz was working real nice for me out of that 3-3-5. That mlb would sometimes shoot right through the A gap and bust the run up in the backfield.

I played a guy last night and he used 1-5-5 and stopped every run EVEN Goal Line. I was on the 2 yd line going in, I see him come out in 1-5-5 and laugh. Hike the ball, 5 defenders fly through and destroy the RB as soon as he gets the ball. I was like WTF????

i like to use lb dogs also from 3-3-5 nickle vs. the run, pinch the lbs when you do that though. i'm not sure if it's better to spread the line so the lbs shoot through the gaps or to leave it alone so the lbs follow the linemen through though.

Guy I played last night used it. It works vs the pass too. Sometimes he would spread the line at other times he would leave it alone. If you do not like using lead blocker control it will eat you alive. Toss plays can work well against it IF you are playing against someone that does not contain the outside.
