Since you use 34 alot, I was wondering if you know much about the 245 that is helpful for the run. Also, what are you looking for in the 34 for blitzing. I get killed in this d and haven't used it much.
Talk to "GAV" about the Nickel-2-4-5 and run stopping. He does a d@mn good job running that Defense vs. both the run and pass, but it's blitz HEAVY scheme out of zone which it needs to be to help stop the run and also force quick passs. He uses it as a base Defense, I don't, I like it vs. Shotgun becuz the OLBs can get a nice rush off the edge and just basically 3+WR sets usually or when I know my opponent is passing for sure. I do prefer running a 2Man Under scheme from the 2-4-5.
As far as the 3-4 goes, I like to blitz a lot out of Zone coverage especially. I'm constantly sending heat in different ways, with my OLBs, ILBs, CBs, Safeties, manually, all,... it's hard to explain man becuz it's a lot of on the fly adjustments. I usually setup my blitzes & zones based on the offensive formations, where my opponent lies within the hash marks and tendencies. For example, my opponent comes out with 2WR sets, I then will probably setup more CB blitzes because of the greater risk of PA. Or 3+WR set, I will probably focuz more on LB blitzes and uses more hook/purple zones since the flats are usually not as great of a threat since usually the HB is blocking or forced to block. Also lets say my opponent lies all the way towards the left side of the hash marks, I will probably send a blitzer or two off the right side (wide side) of the field and focuz the remaining coverage with purple or flat zones in that direction of the field since usually that right side will be attacked with corner routes or swing routes and QB roll outs. I also like running a 2Man Under 4 man rush scheme with plays like DoubleX/Z/TE as I described in other posts, usually setup the OLB to blitz off the Wide side of the field to force him to use extra protection or roll out the opposite end where there's less room to pass with, sometimes I put that opposite DE in a QB contain or zone assignment, QB trap type setup. Also blitzes like Weak/Strong and OLB Dogs fire are nice man under blitzes from the 3-4.
*To tell you the truth though man, I haven't been running that much 3-4 as of late, I been running more 4-3 zone blitzes. I really like the 4-3 vs. the pass especially and vs. PA it seems to get more sacks with just the front 7 attacking. I have a really hard time getting sacks vs. the PA with my front 7 from the 3-4, I'm forced to blitz CBs or manually blitz usually.
