Hey everyone I need help with the vertical offense. Let me start off by saying I don't really know what the vertical offense is. I know the Colts run it. (I think they do atleast) And I know it involves speedy recievers like Marvin Harrison which I don't know how to use in Madden. I usually use big recievers. I need to put it in my gameplan because my friends are figuring out my WCO so I need to add another element and I know here at VG we have a lot of ballers who run many styles so help would be appreciated.
I use the Raiders' playbook by the way and I have the Raiders' PB by VG. A lot of help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance guys!

You can still use the WCO and still get vertical. You need to lab 3,4 and 5 wide. You need to find a good mixture of run's and posts, corners, drags, slants and flat busting plays within those 3 and 4 wides.
I always tell people don't switch your playbook unless your 100% sure. Sometimes when I get board of mine I just hit the practice field and keep labbing. You will find different things trust me.
Also if you play enough guys you need to study what they do. Being a good baller is learning an opponent and sometimes you can take things from their game and add it to yours.

Sup Mello. I don't want to change my playbook I just want to add another style of play of my offense. I knew people would catch on to my style that's why I need to learn another element ya know?

Oh yea!!! but I'm tellin ya bro don't worry about a new PB. Stick to what your with and lab. Try labbing in big sets and audible to the spread or vice versa. mix up your audble's play with motions and stacking sides. Learn some compression to mix in with your spread offense.
Just so you know compression "if" you didn't know is singleback tight, trips bunch, trips. Remeber you can make a single back normal into a trips. Just experiment and have fun. Get creative because if you don't you can bet that other guys are

Lol yeah I see that. I love my Raiders' PB man. I just need to learn some vertical plays out of it so my opponent can't just focus on taking short routes away from me. The problem is I don't really understand how to use the vertical offense or what it is. I just know the Colts run it.
Yeah I need to work on the compression as well I know when I learn that I'll be deadlier then a 187.

Raiders PB is fire and it's a vertical PB, but I use the Wash PB and it's a vertical PB also...I also dont like to use small speedy WR's...I play w/Jville and their WR's are huge and for the most part slow...
My keys to throwing deep or getting vertical:
1.) You have to maintain the treat of the run and be able to control a game w/your running game if need be...This opens up PA passes and if you can gash your opponnent running they will be forced to put more people in the box, which makes reading/beating coverage much easier and limits the type of coverages your opponnent can use...
2.) Pass protection...you have to be able to protect your QB...
3.) Attack the safties...run route combo's that put the safety in a bind(meaning that the safety loses no matter who he chooses to cover)...

I agree 100%! Great overall plan for the Verticle attack.

just go deep a little more often. even if you don't complete them it makes the guy you are playing account for the deep ball.
One thing the Colts do on offense is run a lot of 2 back sets. They'll call a shotgun 2wr 1TE 2RB and have Addai and Rhodes back there either for blocking or receiving.

I pretty much run a vertical offense with the Chargers. Lots of streaks n posts routes.
What I do is have a combination of those deeper routes such as streaks n posts, but in combination with shorter routes as well, like flats, quick hitters, crossing routes,... that can be used underneath the safeties or if there's pressure. And once they bite on the shorter stuff, you go deep and vice versa. I hardly run max protection also, I like to send 5 receivers out a lot (atleast 4 recievers though), even from 2back sets. I think I do my best when I use 2back and send 5-4recievers out. I usually like to spread out from 2back using motion. For example, if I use a set like I-Form-TwinWR which I like a lot, I will usually motion out my HB towards the side of the TE and isloate him on the edge running a streak or fade, that opens up a lot for the TE, Fullback and also SlotWR especially and if the safety towards my HB's side keys on the TE/FB/SlotWR, I will then hit my HB who's 1 on 1 and it's usually 6 or a completion since I got LT. I been loving that Empty4WR formation a lot also from the NY Giants Playbook, it seems to be a perfect spread formation for the Chargers with LT subbed in at the Slot. That's the kind of spread formation that attacks all parts of the field nicely and good protection is possible.
If I was you, I would definitely experiment with other playbooks. Oakland might be too much compression and I think sometimes you need to spread out a bit more to be able to attack deeper and read the defense more easily. Playbooks are definitely different in small, but big ways sometimes. I like to use Seattle's as well for it's Near/Far formations especially, but I would tell you that I play a completely different style than if I used the Giants, Rams playbooks, probably a bit more conservative and I personally don't care much for it's Singleback sections so that limits me. For one, I like I-Form-TwinWR, and I don't get that many good passing plays from Seattle's playbook that I like, as compared to Ram's/Giant's, their loaded and better suits the type of motioning and route combos I like.

WCO isnt just short reads. Thats just the beginning. It has to do with reads in general and making them on different levels.
Some routes are short, some medium some long. If I remember correctly, in the WCO you are to make the longs reads 1st , then work your way down.
Right at the snap you need to be able to identify thw safties coverage, keeping in mind the routes being run. Once you know how they are playing you will know if you have 1 on 1 coverage down field.
If thats closed then your med. routes are next and if not them then you need to dump it off.
Start out with a play that has both WR doing streaks, and the 3rd wr or TE doing a post. Learn how to read the open men outta that play. And using the same methods apply it to other plays. GL!

Yup, that's the concept. :) That's how you learn to read the entire D and attack all areas of the field. Then take what's given to you. You can't just settle for the short little quick passes all the time, a good player will shut those down, you have to learn to spread the Defense out a bit to really open up stuff and keep the defense honest. Don't let the Defense dictate to you, you force them to change to you. This is where the vision cone comes in real handy because you can use it to take advantage of aggressive manual defenders who are always looking to make that big play with their safety or whoever their manually roaming with in coverage. You can really test their patience and see how truely commited they are to their zone responsibility.

Thanks a lot guys.
Yo BooBoo I use SD to (as you already know probably) so your advice will probably help a lot. I was actually going to start using the Colts playbook because I like how Peyton does thier offense. They run vertical in real life so their PB should be good too right?
I'll try it out. Lab it and everything and then I'll come back and post in this thread what I need help on or some plays I learned.
Thanks again guys.

Yeah I know about that. You are correct indeed. But for some reason I read short first then go deeper. Like on some plays my HB in the flats is my first read. I think it's because I always think that I'm under pressure. I need to develop better pocket presence.
