Okay guys. I've been playing a round of musical playbooks recently. I love the Seattle book, but I'm just bored with it after so long. I've been trying to find ways to use quick passes out of the backfield to help battle against BNR. The trick is you have to find a good angled route AND a compression set that will allow you to motion guys to the edge. I've found two little plays from Denver's playbook that I really like and think are perfect to exploit the BNR.

The thing is... the base play that we pull routes from is in Shotgun 5 Wide. So in order to be able to audible down to a base offense (so guys are in their correct positions) we need to go into substitutions first and make some changes. If you roll with Denver and you like to use 5 WR then this setup is not for you, because we are going to take 3 WRs out and plug in 2 RBs and a TE.

Directions
1.) Set up audibles to run in any I-Formation set (preferrably I-Form Close so we won't have to add in another formation shift)

2.) Go into Subs, Shotgun 5 Wide and make the following changes:

-put a RB at the left SL WR (second from left)

-put your best pass catching RB (speed, height, and catch= good) in at the SL3 WR position (the WR just to the right of your right Tackle)

-put your TE in at the SL 2 (the second WR from the right)

Setting up the Plays

Play #1:
a. Shotgun 5 Wide, pick Curl-Drag

b. audible to I-Formation pass play (if not an I-Formation Close play, then you will have to formation shift to I-Form Close)

c. Press Y, up, Y, up (if on XBOX) or Triangle, up, Triangle, up (if on PS2) to pull the routes into the I-Form close play

d. Motion the FB to the left. Snap a little bit after he passes the WR on the left. Throw it high.

Play #2:
a. Shotgun 5 Wide, pick FL Fly

b. same as above

c. same as above

d. Motion the HB to the left. Snap it a little bit after he passes the WR on the left. Throw it high.

Thoughts: I have struggled mightily to get consistency againts BNR man coverage. These two plays, thus far, have given me that consistency. Here is the cool thing about running this setup:

-First off, you come out in a 5 Wide setup, which immediately screws up yoru opponent... because you are using a base package. I'm not that great from shotgun, but those of you who are can use this base package from shotgun and probably do some damage with it.

- Secondly, you can use the RB routes as decoys. You don't have to make the quick pass. Against man BNR I like to audible from the 5 Wide plays down into I-Form Close Flanker Drive. When I motion the HB or FB to the left, I won't always throw the quick pass but let the other routes develop. Against zone, the FB's pulled route from Curl Drag does a lot of damage downfield.

Basically, just experiment with this combo.

Denver has a nice book, and the only one I've seen thus far that you can use this type of setup. I'd definately reccommend it as a book because of its great balance. Anyway, give this setup a try and lemme know what you think.

Ya, I was looking for the same thing. But could not find any effective plays.

Well then you should give these plays a shot. The second one is ridiculous.

On the FL Fly play, try not motioning the HB out to the left. When he stays in the backfield his defender goes STUPID. Also, the FL running the drag route often gets open as well.

I'm really liking the Denver PB because you can audible down to I-Form Close, Weak-I Close, and Strong Big Tight and use this setup.

IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY... CHECK THESE PLAYS OUT.

This sounds great, it'd be so cool if they really work well because I've been having MAJOR struggles lately, and the Lab from TML hasn't helped me anywhere near as much as I'd like it to. Do you think this could be the ONLY thing you do on offense? It'd be so cool to be good at Madden again...
