I cannot stop the HB Lead Toss (to the left) out of I Form Twin TE. I've tried nearly everything. If someone plays with the Seahawks using Shaun Alexander or with the Chiefs using LJ it seems virtually unstoppable. The RB either has a perfect lane to the outside or can cut it in for 5-6 yards. Does anyone know how to stop this?

Well, zones stop the outside run better, opposed to man which stops the inside run better... so I'd run zone, and control a Safety and try to stake it out...

Yeah, try it and get burned for 6 every time.

I tend to disagree with the first poster also, I run man when the opponent is running quick hits like dives, slams, tosses, etc., and I run zone when they're running misdirection plays (counters mostly). This is because when you're in man, your defenders chase right after the ball carrier instead of dropping towards their zone first.. it should be easy to see why this is a good thing on dives and tosses but a bad thing on counters.

The run commit can help out a lot, just don't guess wrong and get burned. In fact, dont guess at all. Most people decide "alright, I'm going to commit on this play" before the ball is snapped, which leads them to a mistake. Instead, dont worry about the commit until after the snap.. focus on what the offense is doing and react to it.. it's better to be too late and not commit at all than to get burned on play action.

It could also be that your defense is just a little lacking in the athletic department.. what team are you using? If you need some extra 'big guys' for those twin TE sets you can sub in another lineman for a linebacker.. this can actually help a lot if you aren't afraid of the deep ball.

Just my thoughts.

I like to put my DE on flat zone coverage to get outside and force the Run inside. When defending a toss play (Madden & NFL) the goal is to force the run inside where all of your defenders are. You will get beat if you try to get everyone over to the ball. Instead use Contain blitze and pressure from the corners and Nickle back to get your opponent to cut back inside.

I love to run this play.. I use it atleast 3-4 times a game.. Rudi gets 5-6 yards most of the time.. I normally get shut down when I play teams with fast DE's like Balt..
