The book is now ready for sale. Here is the link.

I am confident that you will enjoy it. If you like the Raiders playbook last year, then you will like this one as well. One thing I tried to achieve with this playbook is to put a lot of variety into it. With so many different concepts, schemes, and plays, you can’t go wrong with it. You will find yourself finding new ways to run the book that you may not have thought of. Even if you don’t run the Redskins playbook, a lot of stuff can be implemented into any other playbook. I also wanted to add some new stuff that I haven't talked about in any of the Virtual Playbooks or Individual Playbooks we have released over the years.
If you have any problems with the playbook such as opening it or not get your user ids and passwords, please go here for technical support.
http://vgsports.helpserve.com/index.php?_m=tickets&_a=submit
Be sure to print the order page after you make the order. It has your user id and password.
I want to first thank you the VG supporters for sticking with us over the years. Without you, we don’t exist. I also want to thank Bert, Jon, Marcus, and Big B for helping me with this guide. Without you guys, this book doesn’t happen. Finally I want to thank EA Sports and especially the playbook design team for doing such a wonderful job with the Redskins playbook. They truly did a great job at putting this playbook together.
Finally, for those of you who purchase the playbook, please post any feed back in this thread of what you liked and didn't like. That way I can improve on the next playbook I write.
Sincerely,
Kobra

looks like a good read kobra! nice work.
another alternative to printing your order confirmation is just saving the page for those of you without printers or who just want a quicker way. simply right click in your browser and choose save page as...select web page, complete as your filetype, and save it to where you keep your madden guides.

Is there any value to this guide if you are a 360 player? Or will most of it not be useful?
Also, any chance at a 49ers book?
Kobra

Most of it will, but not all. The bump-n-run beaters won't apply accept for the natural bump-n-run beaters. The zone busters mostly apply to CG and NG.

anyone interested in the Wash book really should check this out ...
in fact, even if you're not running Wash, it's full of great ideas and routes you can use to up your game with any PB.
good work, kobra.

@Kobra
Great job on the PB break-down & all the tips! This should notch up my game another level or so.
I do have a question though, so hopefully you can break it down for me a bit more.
Background - Each year, I take the first month to find the right playbook. This year, I wanted to be able to run several schemes within the same playbook - and ended up with the Redskinks playbook that I then play to the strengths of the teams I run with - mostly the Fins, Bengals, Minny.
So of course I was delighted to see that you chose to break down the Washington PB for the same reason - it has spread sets, compressed sets, power running sets to implement various schemes.
However, I still struggle a little in game when trying actually implement a scheme using all formations - especially with the available formations shifts.
My question:
Could you provide a breakdown of sets AND formation shifts according to scheme, i.e. compressed, power running, spread ?
Example 1:
I start out in I-Form Close, which is a compressed balanced set for running and passing.
I can then form-shift to I-Form 3WR, which is spread (??) set having the TE in the slot. Or I could form-shift to I-TwinTE, which is a compressed power running set, but now have a receiver line up as TE - which usually does not help my very much.
Example 2: I can come out in Strong I with a run. I see that there's 8 or 9 in the box. I form-shift to SB Deuce Wing either to now run the quick-hitting HB Slam or to get better protection back-side with the FB at the line for a pass - but end up doing this intuitively than actually trying to modify my scheme at the LOS. So if I want to power run out of Strong I, what does the form-shift to SB Deuce Wing give me ?
You feel me ? :D
Seems like now I almost have too many sets, schemes, and formation shifts available and I start to confuse things...
Any feedback is appreciated.

So if I want to power run out of Strong I, what does the form-shift to SB Deuce Wing give me ?
If you formation shift into the SB Deuce Wing from the Strong I H Twin TE, you can motion the TE or FB back into the backfield to the defense a different look. You also got a TE lined out wide matched up with a smaller CB. I like my chances the TE will run over smaller CB. Heck I have even may sub a RT. Take a look at the following example below.
Kobra
12-06-2006, 11:37 AM
In the screen shot below, I come out in the Strong I H Twin HB Blast. Two TEs are lined up on the right.
Kobra
12-06-2006, 11:39 AM
I formation shfit into the Singleback Deuce Wing.
The FB (W) now lines up on the left, and the TE2 (B) now lines up outwide on the right. Across from him is the LCB.
Kobra
12-06-2006, 11:42 AM
I motion the FB back into the backfield. I am now in the Strong I H Normal, but with the TE2 lined up outwide rather than a receiver.
Kobra
12-06-2006, 11:44 AM
Rather than running inside behind the FB, I can look to run outside where the TE2 is driving the RCB back.
Kobra
12-06-2006, 11:54 AM
With the TE2 now blocking the RCB, the only defender in the area to make the tackle is the SS. One good highlight stick could be the difference between picking up 6 yards or going in for 6.
Final Thoughts
You may want to flip your TE1 and TE2 around. That way the TE1 will be lined up outside. For instance if you got an elite TE such as Shockey. Having him lined out wide will allow you to throw the ball if needed because he has better hands than the Shiancoe ( I think that's how you spell his name). This will help keep your opponent from cheating against the run.
Now if you sub an OT in at the TE2 spot. That's great for the run game, but not so good for the pass game. You won't be able to throw to him, so that makes for one less receiver throw to. What I like to do when I have an OT out wide is to motion him back inside and snap the ball when he gets inside the tackles if I plan on throwing the ball. I now have 6 OL pass blocking, while I have 3 or 4 receivers going out for a pass.
I hope this explains what you were asking.

@Kobra
Ahhhhh...exactly! This is exactly what I was looking for. Just out of this example, I now know that
- I can come out in Strong I trying to run
- upon seeing 8 or 9 in the box, I can form-shift to SB Deuce Wing
- and then try to run outside with a TE blocking the corner.
Now - can you add part III to the Redskins PB - call it "Running Schemes with Sets and Formation Shifts" - and go into situational break-downs depending on a) the scheme you are trying to run versus b) the defense that you are seeing at the LOS, then c) form-shifting accordingly. Write it and sell it to us for 10.95, please ?! :D
For the simple reason that there must be old guys like me that cannot put in the lab time anymore to break all the sets and formation shifts down - and to draw the implications of who lines up where and what the advantages/disadvantages are...
But again thx - great break-down. I want more :D :D

It seems like a lot of you are having problems with the screen route who are playing on the PS2. Here is an example of one of the plays in the Redskins playbook on how I like to use the screen route to beat bump-n-run man coverage. I use the PS2 for the following example below. If you got any more questions, feel free to ask.

Ill Have To Admitt!! Great Work Kobra this book kinda helped me get from a 2000 rating to a 2100 rating. because i was stuck at 2000 i would just win 2 games and lose 1 which set me right back where i started. but once i study and learned new things and how to dominate the redskins PB it gave me more scoring power with my under rated Steelers LoL!! Not to Mention I was Using Skins PB last yr cuz PC has NO run pass glitch!!

I am glad it helped. I think a lot guys overlooked this PB because of the run/pass glitch in 06. It really is a good book to run in 07. The only thing I miss from it is a few more formation shifts such as being able to go from any Singleback fortmation into the Singleback 4WR Stack.

i mean yehh but there is still tons of overlooked playz that can be turned into some dominating 3rd down playz ill give you a play that was well overlooked by me until i used your route pulling system!!!
I got the Playbook over the weekend and It like it alot. I play with Oakland's Playbook and I will incorporate alot of the ideas into what I am doing. I do have a question. I tried to download Kobra's updated call sheet without any luck. Does anyone else have this problem?

Thx Kobra for taking my play and putting it up in the film room i got another money play i labbed up out of the Skins PB ill give it to you right now!!
This play here i like to run in Goalline and third down situations....
1) I call the ShotGun-Wing Trips....Vertical TE Cross
2) Then I playmaker the SL on a inside drag route and
motion him left
NOTE: when he is motioned left he should just go closer
to the TE this will be a combo route to set up
the WIDE OPEN TE on a quick pass every time
Not if, but when timed correctly (because you will see a wide open passing lane to the TE) you will gain 7+ yrds evertime its used

ok thanks (10 char)
W'Dup Kobra:
How many bags of dorritos, how many notebooks and how long does it take you to put together these virtual playbooks?
1st let me say, excellent guide as always.
Questions:
1.) How often do you run the screen plays? I see you have quite a few displayed screen plays.
They don't seem to work for me online... In the lab I have a great deal of success but in real life it never works I get sacked almost 100% of the time.
2.) Last year at the beginning of the Vikes playbook you listed about five teams that would be successful with that style of play.
I currently use Dallas but I'm looking to learn another team any suggestions? I really want to learn the Bears, seeing that I'm from Chi-Town and all.
3.) Two year ago with the Pass Balanced you mentioned that you started the game with the HB Comet Pass (I think that was it) so that you could read the opponents style of play.
What play do you usually start the game off with this year?
I think that is it for know... I'll be picking your brain some more later.
Thanks.

First off thanks for buying the book. It takes awhile to lab an entire book. That's why it takes me a little longer to put out a guide. I try to lab every play. Sure I could throw out 20 plays and be done with the book within a week, but what good is that. I mean you guys expect to get your moneys worth, right? Instead I rather lab as many plays as I can and learn them as good as I can and then put them in the book. That way you guys can run different schemes of your choice. If one scheme is not workin, you can always try another until you find the ones you like best.
Screens
I run them a few times a game. I have had success with them in particularly the WR Screen pass against zone coverage. The one were I have a receiver running a screen, one running a flat, and running the streak.
Teams I Use
Cowboys
Giants
Bears
Colts
I use those teams the most as of now.
What Play I Call First
I don't have a play, instead I like to come out in a Singleback Big play and use the WR Swap package. The reason I do this is to be able to tell if my opponent is using the individual defensive player assigments. If my opponent has used it, I can tell by how the CBs switch once the defense breaks the huddle. It also tells me what bump-n-run man beaters will work and which ones won't.

I see... pretty tricky! I didn't completely understand that, but I have a very good idea of what you are talking about. I'll lab it to get a better understanding.

How does it tell you this????
Kobra
12-21-2006, 08:23 PM
There are certain bump-n-beaters I run in the Skins playbook that won't work if defensive individual assignments are called. The reason they don't work is the defenders do not switch once the ball is snapped.

I recently bought the book, and it came to me within a minute (maybe less) and I absolutley love it, man. If you guys are still looking for a good team to use with this playbook, look no further than the Redskins themselves. With all of the drag routes and screens - the speedy Randel El, Lloyd, and Moss are very dangerous after the catch.
I've been using the Redskins and the Redskins playbook ever since I began playing madden (they're my favorite team of course), it was frustrating at times last year, with no shotgun formations, and the run/pass glitch, but this year that playbook is loaded with potential.
Your book helped me get out of a slump that I had been in ever since I lost Portis; I've had to rely on average runningbacks like Betts and Duckett; i've just never been much of a passer (or any good at it anyway).
I ran a lot of random plays - so I know the book well, but I overlooked a lot of the shifts and motions that you pointed out; I had always been unpredictable, but sticking with a scheme is what I was lacking.
Also, with some of the things you pointed out in your guide in the running game, I learned how to pickup big gains, without having to rely on a stud running back in the backfield. (But I still can't wait to try the book, when I get Portis back :) )
Thanks for all the hard work, I enjoyed it.

Have you ever found an effective way to run the I-Form Close reverse?
I've run it many times, when a game gets out of reach, but it only works less than 25% of the time.

Some of the concepts will work for the Bengals playbook. Before I ran the Skins playbook I ran the Saints and Bengals playbook and I use alot of same stuff in both books as I do in the Skins. One of things I really liked about the Bengals playbook was Twin WR formations. I can do a lot with them.

I checked it out, and it's not discounted. But, it should be due to the fact that it was release last year. Could you possible speak to bert about this matter. I do appreciate you guys hard with putting such indepth guides together to exploit defensive strageties, but it's only right to lower the price. Or, even throw it in with your new redskins guide.

Let me ask you a question, which playbook would you recommend for tourney play, Washington or Oakland? For something like the Madden Challenge? I got a small tourney coming up....holla at me.
I play with the chargers, I currently use the Saints playbook but used Washington the past few games and won with it. How would you recommend using the chargers and this playbook.

I've only played in online tournies and the book I would use for this year would be the Redskins. Mainly because that's the book I used most of the season.

Kobra,
I just started reading this thread and can't wait to get your Redskins PB (yeah, I'm the guy BigB has probably talked to you, Bert, and Squeeze about). That play you diagrammed with the TE blocking the WR after the form shift and TE becoming an H-back is awesome! I use the Redskins PB and have some cool plays for myself but I'm sold just on that play alone. Can't wait to see the rest!
