Isnt there a way to hide what play youre selecting.

I have the PS2 console.I read in the manual that you can press L2 during play selection and pick the play hidden above /or below the play that is displayed.Can I do this when I playing somebody in the same room?Or is this just for online play.......

Ok i take my time to answer my own question.Press L1 + the play button for the hidden play above,or press L2 + the play button to pick the play hidden below
