how to stop corners

Alright, I just played an online game and i play with the Cardinals every game.
This guy kept hitting corners around 15-20 yards almost every play. I couldnt find a defensive formation and play that could eliminate these.
Luckily my Offense could keep me in the game as I won 35-25 but it was getting frustrating and im going to have to learn how to stop these corners to shut down some good offenses.

XBox 360 is TERRIBLE this year. On the Ps2 or regular XBox you could simply playmaker a LB into a purple zone to neutralize the corner routes. DONE DEAL. But, I guess that's not an option in the Next Gen (by the way, that is absolutely ridiculous!) So, try Cover 3 zones to stop the corner routes, but keep in mind that these can get beat deep. Or, look for zone defenses where the defenders are in "purple zone". Also, generally they try to throw the corner routes to the wide side of the field.....as info....

Well, putting a LB out in a zone to cover a receiver going towards the corner could backfire...especially if your LB's aren't coverage LB's. Last time I checked, I wouldn't put the Cardinals LB's on a slot receiver.

I do agree with running zone plays though, if it's three wide, run a cover 4 zone...gives that extra eye. Also, if the guy is using the same formation to run these corner plays, just manually play your safety and pay attention to those routes. You can't get them everytime, but you could cut back on some of those completions. Also, try (on the pre-snap defense) pressing A, then up on the right thumbstick. If your safeties are in zone coverage, it pushes there zone more towards the sideline.

I hate how slow the defense is on the Cardinals though. They have my favorite offense in Madden, but my corners are slow and always get beat and the linebackers can't chase a runningback side to side. Anyway, i have been using Quarter Normal - 2 man under spy....where there are 5 players in man coverage, a linebacker that is spying and 2 safety's that are in a deep zone coverage. Ill use this formation but also mix up some blitz plays and it has been working very well. I played against the Saints earlier and this formation was perfect for stoping Reggie Bush in the air and on the ground even though its not really a runstopping formation. It also has been taking away some of the deep corners. The only thing that i think it isnt very good with is a very good. powerfull runner and little short outs.

Make sure you use Dansby as the Strong side LB. he's definately fast enough to defend the corners in the Pink zones against almost all players. It works. It's proven. It's simple.

One thing that you definately DON'T wanna do vs corner routes is play cover 2 type D's.

Corner routes take some time to develop so I might try to put some pressure on the QB so you're in his face before that route is open, forcing him to go elsewhere.

No one said cover 2....we said cover 3/4...matter of fact, how are YOU gonna say run cover 3 and then come back again and say NOT to run cover 2 type D's? Isn't that....wait, what do you call it....OH, a contradiction??? Hmmm....Dansby is fast enough to defend corners? Ok, question for you there BigHurt....would you put Dansby up against a slot receiver like....Chris Henry on those corner routes?

Anyway Paul....the Cardinals D is just going to give you problems in general because they aren't given the best stats on Madden...just try to play some of the routes manually and keep getting pressure on the other teams QB...you should do alright with all the weapons on your offense

yea, pretty much the only thing keeping me 7-1 with the cards is my good offense and i have been stopping the run at all times.
