If you are over 30, you must remember when guys in the booth would just call it "the ball".

I know what effing sport I'm watching, so there's no need to clear up exactly what type of ball is being used. Same goes for the field and team.

I think Phil Simms started this bullcr@p that everybody says now.

This isn't really a big deal, but I pine for the old days.

Come on....... nobody is w/me on this?

When you watch a baseball game, do they say "baseball" every time the ball is referred to?

How about hockey?

It sounds effing retarded.

lol.. this thread has been viewed 46 times and no one had anything to say, why? Because in baseball they use a baseball, in football they use a football, in hockey they use a hockey puck..... We're not clear why it's a problem that sometimes the announcers call them what they are and other times they say ball or puck. No one seems to have an issue with this but you :)

Do they have to say "Seahawks" everytime they talk about the Seattle Seahawks?

This thread is not going to get any legs, sorry... lol.

In baseball and hockey, they just say "ball" or "puck" because they'd sound like effing gloids if they sounded like football announcers saying stuff like:

Yeah Jim, the rain has picked up and is making the baseball field more and more slippery. You know Frank, the baseball umps may have to delay the baseball game even though it's almost over. I mean just look how soaked these baseball players are in their baseball uniforms standing on this muddy baseball field. I just got the forcast Jim, and there's more rain than less headed for this baseball stadium. I think the baseball umpires will just stick with this baseball game for the next few minutes.

-------------------------------

.............the baseball is going back...... back.... the wind is taking the baseball towards foul.... HOLY COW! the baseball was plucked from over the fence and that's the third baseball out of the 9th baseball inning in what has been one heck of a baseball game".

I've exaggerated only a little here. Joe Buck seems to be one of the only guys not affected with the "football before every noun" disease.

Think back Nevada, it wasn't always this way.

Being an Eagles fan, I'm sure you'll be with me for at least this:

Phil Simms: Retard

It's kinda like how annoyed I get everytime I hear someone refer the the New York Giants as the "New York FOOTBALL Giants." So annoying. THEY'RE THE ONLY TEAM IN ANY SPORT IN NEW YORK CALLED THE GIANTS!!!

Who is your "old days" favorite ? Howard Cossell ? I know what you mean though... there are people in life that over-word things, or throw in stuff that is not necessary for anything other then wasting your time. It pisses me off too...

The reason they are called the "New York Football Giants" is because if you don't recall, there was a baseball team in New York called the Giants as well!

Back then, if you said the New York Giants, then you would confuse the other person, until they figured out whether you were talking about football or baseball...

That's the story behind the "New York Football Giants"

WTF is wrong with New York ? Can't they come up with a new name for different sports teams ? I guess it should have been obvious they were lacking the ability since it's New York , New York .... But seriously , can't you friggin name one Giants and the other Schmiants ? Who cares ....

Cossell was great. Too bad he got a raw deal.

I couldn't agree with you more. One of my favorite announcers...

I'm well aware of the history of the teams. However, TODAY, there is only one team in NY called the Giants. Hence, it annoys me when people call them the New York Football Giants.

The worst one is Ditka. He's so bad about it, I just have to laugh. "This football team has to protect the football or they will lose the football game." Listen next time you get a chance. LOL

Back in the footballs barnstorming days, there was a team called the New York football Yankees. They originally were called the (gulp!) Boston Yankees. Thankfully, they folded after a few years.

They should call the Knicks the New York basketball Knicks cuz it isn't obvious what thier trying do out there. LOL.
