to you chargers users out there can you guys hook me up with some tips.
i just want some basic schemes on d. maybe you guys can hook me up with some good blitzes/nanos that work well for them.
also there personel does not suite well to a mobile qb like vick because of their slow dline so any tips on defending that would be nice as well.

kts1230,
Not sure what you're style of defense you play, but check out the 3-4 Blitz guide and maybe the A/B gap blitz guide. Lots of good tips to slow/stop the offense. Pick whatever matches your style.
For some basic roster changes, switch out Florence with Cromartie. Florence is rated at 81 and is the 2nd string, but Cromartie is 82 and he's listed as 3rd string. Cromartie is faster (94 spd vs 91 for Florence), so this will cut down on the long TD's because Cromartie can stay with his receiver.
If your opponent is really cheezin', switch out ROLB Phillips with Foley. Foley has a higher rating (86 vs 82) and has better awareness (85 vs 75), so he doesn't bite on PA as much. Don't really like to do this since Foley got shot and his career is over.
As for containing the mobile QB, there's a lot of stuff on the other threads. If the offense comes out with a 3 WR set, try QB contain from the 2-4-5 Nickel. You have Florence and Edwards on the contain, so that will keep the QB in the pocket. With Cromartie covering the #2 WR, it usually results in an incompletion instead of a TD. Mix it with a couple of blitz packages to keep the QB frustrated and guessing.
For WR, swap McCardell (WR #1) with Jackson (WR#3). McCardell has a higher rating (84 vs 79), but Jackson is faster (89 vs 85) and taller (so you can throw high and Jackson has a better chance of out jumping his defender. Be warned, he drops more balls). Plus, Jackson is a better run blocker.
If you come out with 3 WR sets, then McCardell is matched up on the 3rd or 4th string cornerback and that's a mismatch for you.
Also, the most reliable receivers in SD are Gates and Tomlinson. Call some pass plays out of running formations and throw them the ball. It throws off the defenses. I'd avoid 3 or 4 WR sets unless you are exploiting a mismatch or have Gates or LT in the slot or out wide.
Hope it helps.

IMO The Chargers have one of the best front sevens in the game. Here is what I do on defense:
Subs:
Steve Foley for Shaun Philips (Better OVR and Speed)
Put Cromartie at CB2 or FS (94 or 95 Speed)
Sometimes I Sub in Cesaire for Olshanksy for more speed
Because of the lack of speed in the back I run a lot zone blitzes:
3-4 Solid - Clamp Double Go:
Spread the LBs
Optional: Send the safeties back
This blitz will have all LBs blitzing while the lineman drop back into zones. It works well against pass and run out of the two back set
3-4 Normal - LB Storm 3:
Pinch the line
Optional: Send the safeties back
Another fast blitz. If the QB drops straight back he's dead. If he doesnt max protect, hes dead. Good against the run. Foley will come off the left side and get to RB as soon as he gets the ball. Good vs. 2 Back Set
3-4 Under Pinch:
Flip the play in the huddle
Show blitz and pinch the line
Optional: Align the secondary
This one comes right up the middle so fast its considered a glitch by newbies because they don't know how to beat it. Max Protect will beat this blitz. Very good vs. Singleback but control the safety in case the QB gets the ball off
3-4 Stack - Thundersmoke and also OLB Fire Man
Shift the line left or pinch the line
Pinch the LBS
Optional: Bump the WRs
The QB is dead with this unless he max protects. This is a very good gut blitz
3-4 Normal OLB Dogs Fire:
Spread the LBS
Pinch the Line and crash it in
Good vs. the run. I wouldn't use it versus the pass
Nickel 2-4-5 June Blitz and Ray Smoke:
Versus the run:
Shift the line right
Pinch the LBs
Versus the pass:
Pinch the line and the LBs
These are my bread and butter plays. I use the Chargers almost exclusively and I get a lot of sacks thanks to the LB speed. Try em out

Also.... A lot of people avoid using the Chargers because they aren't really known for their passing game, but I pass a lot, especially deep passes. There is a reciever on the Chargers with 97 Speed. His name is Hakim and hes way down at the bottom of the depth chart. His catch rating is oly in the 70's but I user catch with him so its not an issue for me. I put him on the left side as my WR2. If you have a good run game you can use LT to set up a play action deep on the left side. And because nobody views the Chargers as a deep threat team, you'll get this more times than not. I run the SB Big Ace Play Action. I watch the safeties. If they split out wide I hit Gates in the middle. If they drop straight back or blitz or anything other than gaurd the WR2, i hit him deep. Most of the time i pick up 40 -50 yards on a single play. Hakim will burn most corners unless they are fast like Bailey or Washington or unless they your opponent sends them back.
can you fan the line and crash them on 360? If so how?
