does anybody else out there think that the pass defense needs to be adressed in the next madden? i have played a fair amount of games online now. it seems like everybody uses the falcons and the titans and loves to play "garbage ball". you know, 4 and 5 wide every play, go for it on every 4th down and somehow someone is always open even though this would not happen in real life. and although i have become effiicient at stoppin their drives it is a constant struggle. it is completely unfair that a corny player can consistantly pass down after down and find people open. and sometimes they were just throwing in desperation. it sometimes feels like the your fellow computer controlled defenders need to be babysat. it is very frustrating when you call all the right plays with all the right asjustments and they throw the ball up for grabs and another catch is made. and why don't they add a feature for ranked play where thre game would only allow you to go for it on fourth down if the situation would call for it in real life. i remember playing people on madden 06 (for the xbox) with that feature, and i think it would make it feel like real football. part of the fun of playing madden is feeling like i am in a real football game trying to figure out my opponents next move , not trying to counteract the opponent abusing unfair advantages. maybe i am wrong, this is just my opinion.

Find sim people and put them on your friends list. Playing unranked All-Madden helps too.

It really is gay but i think of it this way...They may get the first this time but a couple of times they will be stopped and I will have a very short field for my offense. It will back fire on them at some point.

even though i use the falcons, i know exactly what you mean. I definately do NOT do that, and it pisses me off that people just choose teams like the Bengals or Cowboys and try to throw it deep every play. They consistantly make it on 4th down because of that and it really pisses me off. I liked it how they had it last year too where you couldn't go on 4th down.

Also, i feel ranked games should be All-Madden. That is how i play my games regularly. It is less unfair when its on All-Madden. The CPU are dip****s in All-Pro

cool, thanks for the replies. i will try it on all-madden. i completely understand that i should have to do alot of work and make plays on defense and not just leave it up to the computer, but i can't be every player, and sometimes my computer players are completely out of position or just stop following the receiver for a second. or even if they are all over a guy on a long bomb he still manages to catch it. yet when i am trying to hit randy moss on a completely open 5 yard out pass he drops the ball. where is the fairness in that. anyways i am just venting. i hope they do tweak the pass defense though because this game is so close to real football as is possible and all that seems to be missing is better pass coverage, in my modest opinion.

The problem with trying to govern what people can and cannot do is that is goes against real football.

In real football, coaches sometimes go for it on 4th and 6 early in the game. Sure, you won't see too many coaches going for it on 4th and 20 on their own 30 in the first quarter but you shouldn't take that option away.

If you take that away, what is next? On 4th and 30, most coaches won't try to get that 30 yards and opt to just get better field position. Do you want THAT as a rule? I know I wouldn't.

I really dont think the rules are the problem. It is the AI that is the issue. You are frustrated because the AI allows them to convert 4th and 15's. In that respect, I agree. The defensive AI should be beefed up a little bit. The problem with that is if you make the AI too good, you would lose many players that way. Alot of people would just not to play online if they couldn't complete a pass. By losing those bad players to frustration, you are also losing potential future good players.

i can appreciate that view. because, in reality, opponents going for it on forth down really wouldn't be an issue if the the passing coverage AI was tightened. people wouldn't succeed as often which would discourage them from alwayz going for it. and i also agree if they made it too good it would take away fun for some. it might actually make them use strategy every once in a while and set up there plays instead of just chucking the ball, after scrambling for 20 seconds, for a touchdown. we wouldn't want that now would we :) but seriously i think it would just take some slight adjustments because it is pretty close and i know that great players like chad johnson and terrel owens are gonna make great plays and occassionaly burn you on deep routes, but i would much rather lose to those plays because the opponent out played me and set me up for it, not because the computer reacts too slowly or doesn't even try to make a play on the ball or just can't keep up with the 5 wide sets even though i have every man on my team including the waterboy and the mascot defending the pass. what i really hate is when i completely stuff a corny oppenents attempts to play garbage ball for most of the game and then he quits on me because he couldn't take advantage of me and my lowly oakland raiders like he thought he could. i will start sometimes 6 to 7 games in a gaming session and only finish 2 sometimes. anyways, until next time.......

I have not played many of these types of people but I am sure you could confuse the hell out of someone that runs 4-5 wide with a very diversified defensive play calling scheme.

Blitz the hell out of them and be very unconventional, they are not used to it. They want to get a certain look from you.

Make sure you get your stick skills up, that's probably the one of the best counters. User picks are so nice.

Teams in the nfl such as the pats use 4wide and 5wide sets all the time to slow down the blitz. If you cant stop those kind of spread sets then thats your fault. Loop your ends to contain those athletic qbs and force then to step up in the pocket. Then have your mlb spy him so the qb will get smacked.

I agree I am tired of playing against ppl who will just lob the ball long to their pro bowl wideouts and they come up with these imposs catches or your cpu players just dont even attempt to swat the ball. 2 of my 3 losses came from ppl just lobbing the ball long and user catching and if i make a good def play and actually swat the ball I get a PI, hopefully EA steps up the pass def AI next year.
