I would much rather have them spend time making 08 better.
It will probably come out after the Super Bowl or the pro Bowl.

The special edition seems like a good idea. They had a Hall of Fame special edition this year.

yeah i think they do take everyone off of IR, for which i am very happy i need my marshall faulk and my Oline healthy again. Orlando pace. I do think it is after the super bowel. then it is another 7 months of misery without football.

I think I recall reading about Manning turning it down a while back for some reason so I doubt he would be on the cover any time soon.
As for Darrent Williams:
It is tragic that he died. But at the same time, we don't know what he is involved in that made him more likely to be a victim. I am not saying that he deserved to die. He could have been completely innocent but I am not about to label him as a hero either.
Also, I don't think he should be on the cover simply because he didn't deserve it. Last time I checked, being murdered does not get you voted into the Pro Bowl or win you defensive player of the year and it shouldn't get you the Madden cover either. It would almost be patronizing to his familiy if he were to be on the cover, knowing that he was not an elite player (though I grant that perhaps he was on his way).

I dont think that anyone was trying to make him out to be a hero... by making a special edition cover i think you are just paying homage to a player whose ill-fated death is something that hit home not only in NFL news but in National News as well. Madden could still have the normal "prestigous" cover boy like a LT or Manning but i dont think that it would be so bad to have a special edition with him on the front. I highly doubt that his family would be offended at such a gesture. I think where some people might have a problem with it is.. why would you have a cover like that now.. when there have been so many other influential NFL players die and then consequently not be on the cover. (irregardless of retired or current)

i agree that would be setting a bad example. cause if you look at it this way, if you unfortunatly pass away regardless of what you were involved in at the time or things you could've accomplished it shouldn't automatically mean you should be enshrined on the cover of the Madden; if so where is the reggie white madden edition? The cover should be reserved for the player who worked hard thoughout the year and was most out standing. Don't get me wrong i think it is sad that he died, but you could also add a memorial page to the game like a load screen " in memory of...." and still have who ever you want on the cover.

Say they do put him on the cover. What happens if he were to be found to be involved in something illegal that led to his murder? Do you really want that guy to be on the cover of Madden?
Also, there are better people to put the cover of Madden that passed on recently. How about the guy who basically created the AFL (now known as the AFC)? He is on the Hall of Fame of multiple big-time sports and is partially responsible for the the success of the NFL. I would much rather have Lamar Hunt on the cover way before Williams. If it were not for Lamar Hunt, there probably wouldn't be an NFL, not along Madden.
There are alot of people who die in the league and they don't all deserve the cover. Last time the Niners played the Broncos, one of their linemen died in Denver. He (Thomas Herrion) wasn't a starter but he was on the team. Does he deserve to be on the cover? Should Cory Stringer have been on the cover? Where is the line drawn? The Madden cover shouldn't be a pity gesture. Alot of people consider it an honor and dying shouldn't make you an auto-include.

Ok maybe this joke is one of those "too soon" types but I am going to say it anyways.
If they were to put a dead player on the cover...
What would the curse be?
^^^Thats why they can't have any of the aforementioned on the cover.

If you were going to make a "too soon" joke, at least make it funny.

I think that they should include some type of Easter egg maybe a tribute
video or a video of him making plays of madden.
Instead of the cover.
