nah, bears will run the ball too much if it rains... and peyton NEEDs the run game to win this game.

Bears can run had have Rex only throw the ball about 20 times and still win

It all depends on the front 4 of the bears

BGreezyAllMadde
02-04-2007, 02:18 PM
i agree the colts will be more affected by the rain, the bears have 2 solid backs and I don't think Bears fans will mind seeing Grossman hand the ball off, and only throw 20 times (sounds like the same formula that won the SB last year...) but I still think the Colts come out on top, if Addai/Rhodes can get the run game goin, it's not all going to be Peyton's arm

ThaL0ngBall

Espn had a interesting story last night

I guess 3 times before... the superbowls starting QB's alama mattas played in NCAA basketball, each time before.... the college team who won, their schools QB ended up winning

Flordia beat Tennessee

Also, Peyton is 0-3 vs flordia in his college carrer... He goes against a QB who played at florida, a defensive end who played at flordia

Biggest game of his life.. .IN flordia

Manning has a huge task in his hands w/ this bears defense... but we'll see how it works out!

Exactly, when your team isnt in there, you just want a good competitive game.

When your team IS there, you want your team to win no matter what, good game be damned :)

Well I suppose this is the thread to post this.

I'm extremely nervous. I'm not sure I'm going to be able to eat much of the sweet snacks we got.

It's all about capatilizing on mistakes. Who makes them? Who makes the most out of getting them. Payton is going to get serious yards, it's going to be about holding them to FG's instead of TD's.

I honestly have no idea whats going to happen in this game. I can forsee so many different outcomes. So many "if's". The Bears just need to play the game they have all year, solid D, keep running the ball, PA Grossman.

The Bears have had an excellent season. Achieving what basically everyone thought they couldnt do. Every single win was because of the weather, the refs, the other team not performing. Never got any credit til getting into this game. Win or lose the fans should be extremely proud of what happened this season.

So for the final time this season.....

Lets go Bears!

why would the Bears run a 3-man front?

they don't have anyone on the roster with the beef.

that D is built on speed, not the latest fad.

if anything, they should bring out the old school 46 and go after the QB on every play. I think their tall, physical corners woulda matched up well with Harrison & Wayne.

everbody who's saying Grossman lost the game for them don't really know what they're talking about.

how can he lose the game when the coaching staff doesn't even let him pass, and the D can't keep the Colts off the field.

Granted, he got crazy late, but the D lost it for the Bears here.

thinking you coudl win the game by hiding your QB away and running 3 out of 4 plays vs the Colts in the Super Bowl is stupid. Peyton's gonna put up points, and you have to have a little faith in your QB to match him. if not, he shoudln't be on the field.

My Pick from the Pick's Thread:
"Colts 21
Bears 13

MVP Marvin Harrison

Just don't think the Bears can keep the ball out of Peyton's hands long enough."

I felt that would be a HUGE problem for the Bears, Rex isn't able to keep drives going, he just sucks that bad. Against the Colts you have to keep the ball out of Manning's hands. If Rex could have engineered just ONE long scoring drive, it could have been enough for that D to get the win.

My notes...

- 2 bad football games in a row in the Super Bowl sucks. Its the sport's biggest stage, where the best show up to claim the crown. Yet, just as last year, you watch the game and you watch all the sloppy play on both sides of the ball and you think "This is the best the league has right now?". This is the down-side of parity in the NFL, folks. The reason that any team in the league has a shot at the Lombardi trophy every year is because there are no great teams left.

- Did I drink too many beers tonight, or did I hear Tony Dungy say that he was the first Christian head coach to win a SB? May wanna check the books on that one, Tony.

- Manning played pretty well, but Dominic Rhodes was the most valueable player of the game.

- Jim Irsay looks a lot like a fat, midwestern version of Adolf Hitler... A LOT... So much so that I would comment on it.

- Crucify Grossman all you want, but in the words of Denny Green, he is what we all thought he was: a big-play guy. Some days, its big plays for his team, and some times, it big plays for the other team. Tonight was the latter.

EDIT: If I'm Roger Goodell, I'm putting in the Tank Johnson rule next year right alongside the Shawne Merriman rule...Any player caught driving a military-grade ammo dump doesn't get to play till next year, whether he has a note from the judge, his pastor, or his mommy.

Peyton Manning...MVP?

Give it to Grossman, I am dead serious! Who said that the MVP had to be given to someone on the winning team. THIS bum GAVE the game away....

This is the question: Did Grossman get paid off by the Colts, or did he always suck this bad?

Also, how many more fingers does Vinatieri have before he fills his hand with rings?

Another, what's this losing streak with running back kickoffs in the big game (Ted Ginn/Devin Hester) and then huge injuries afterwards (Ginn/Benson)?

And why didn't Grossman wear a flippin towel to wash off his hands....is he a bad quarterback and a complete dumbarse as well?

Finally, how many minutes are left before the Bears hold a press conference saying that Grossman has been released...seriously, they have waited too long...

OKAY,

I'm done with the Grossman bashing....

Now, something that I realized when the Bears were playing defense was their lack of the blitz and man coverage assignments.

My question is that with Manning being a pocket passer and the ample blitzes the Bears threw in to their playcalling, did they inevitably blow the game by:

1.) Not going to man coverage enough ( Cover 2 Zone almost the entire game )

or

2.) Not blitzing through the A and B gaps enough, thus limiting Manning's vision on the under routes. Forcing him to throw to the flats and corners (which would have worked nicely with a man coverage)

What do you guys think? I'm done with the Grossman stuff, just wondering what the Bears didn't do well enough that caused them to give up some points.

HAVE A GOOD NIGHT and HAPPY COUPLE MONTHS VG!

Well..... that Devin Hester run back was cool wasnt it? :)

First, congrats to the Colts/Colts fans. The Colts played the better game today. Despite all the pressure being on them, they managed to win anyways. Congrats to a great coach in Dungy. He deserves to be a winner. Congrats to Manning, he -had- every chance to collapse in the face of playoff adversity and didnt. Congrats to the Colts defense.. they did something never done before one of the worst run D's in the league completely changed faces in the playoffs and stepped up.

From the Bears point of view there were several things that hurt us. Didnt take advantage of turnovers like a team could have. When your the underdog, you need to take every turnover and make the best of it, and that wasnt done. We often gave the ball right back. The injury to Cedric Benson hampered us a bit, we never really got to pound the D over and over. They did some gashing, but never wore them down like was the game plan. I missed Tommie Harris. We were weak up the middle, and have been since he went down. Then you got Rex. He really hurt this team. It was painful to see such a good team hindered so drastically by one specific position. His ball security was horrible. Both those INT's were disgusting. Two botched snaps is horrible. It was extremely frustrating to say the least.

Oh well, we werent supposed to be here anyway.

I still feel this team has a very good nucleus. The final result is very disapointing, but there are several things to be proud of that happened this season.

My thoughts on the game:

The Bears defense the second half of the season and in this game was not the same as the dominant one in the first half of the season. Is that because of Tommie Harris and Mike Brown? Well, that's a start. Either way, "defense wins championships" didn't apply to the Bears tonight because their defense just wasn't that great. They played well enough early on but they weren't dominant. When your QB plays THAT poorly, the defense HAS to be great.

Early on it was shaping up to be a Bears win... and then they had to rely on Rex and it went straight down hill.

The Brad Johnsons and the Trent Dilfer's of the world won the big game because:

1) Their defenses were better [than the Bears defense]

2) They protected the ball

It's tough to put it on ONE guy... but the ultimate difference maker this game was Rex's poor play. You can't throw interceptions when your team is within one score of the game.

Again .. I'll ask Bear Fans ..

What is this MYTH that their Rush Defense was something decent? They got steamrolled tonight. I repeat. Steamrolled. And they were getting steamrolled BEFORE Grossman's awful 2nd half that had them out on the field the entire time.

If anyone deserved the SB this year it was Manning, especially after beating the Ravens, Pats and now the Bears .. 3 of the NFL's top 5 Defenses easily this season, all IN A ROW in the post season. (of course it helps that his Defense stood up a little as well .. but a QB is going to beat good teams when not having to out-shoot them all the time) All of them in strategic/veteran fashion. He played a patient game against the Ravens. He out-shot the Patriots after a crazy comeback, and he diced up the Bears Defense .. in fact most of his incompletions were drops by his WRs.

I'm real pleased with this .. it's been a while since a talented QB not named Brady did something on the winning team of the Superbowl.

You have to admit, after that 1st Quarter interception, Manning knew what had to be done and he played a perfect game from there on out .. very similar to the Ravens game. He took what the Defense gave underneath. He moved the chains well, and changed a ton of plays throughout the game at the line to get the best of the Bears Defense .. mostly giving the ball to Rhodes up the middle when he spotted weakness/obvious things coming.

Colts Special Teams is just terrible in coverage, but squibbing and giving up the field position was the perfect way of keeping the ball away from Hester -- the Bears lone threat to put points on the board aside from their FG kicker converting or their Defense hooking up the O deep inside enemy territory.

Really .. it seemed as if the Colts just trampled the Bears. The better team won by far. The Colts O-line played great, entirely neutralized the Chicago D-line (the foundation of their Defense, they're pretty much garbage elsewhere outside of Urlacher) before and after losing Diem, and even when Manning was pressured he moved and made plays still!

.. as for Rex Grossman .. well? Two botched snaps? Two completely retarded interceptions?

The Bears needed some plays down the stretch and Rex killed them.

Somebody mentioned the Bears Defense being at fault -- well if the QB wasn't throwing the ball to the other team on top of the Offenses struggles (and numerous lost fumbles) do you think they'd of looked as bad as they were?

They were exhausted .. man .. any Defense would of sucked it up, great or awful. Rex did not manage the game very well (lol) nor did Lovie give the rock to Jones enough .. he should of carried it 45 times in this contest for the Bears to of had a chance, once Hester was canceled out.

The reality of the situation was that coming into this game the Bears played a bunch of ***** teams all year, stole the ball a million times from said ***** teams, and converted on a lot of those turnovers to make their Offensive production (namely pts) look inflated beyond recognition. No, their Offense was NEVER as amazing as some made them out to be all year.

The reality of the Superbowl was what happened when a solid Defense took the field to stop those cheap scores off a short field, a team that could hang on to the ball executed on Offense, and an amazing Offensive line buried the Bears Defense themselves while their very-patient QB went about his business in moving the chains.

I don't know about y'all, but down the stretch Rex looked like the exact opposite .. he looked scared *****less on every snap, dancing around in the pocket, looking this way and that almost too quickly .. then firing half-seconds before getting knocked on his @ss -- he was beyond shook.

I saw a clinic tonight. The difference between a kick@ss QB (with everything from the elements to the fumbles/missed FG seemingly against him) and a really *****ty one that will lose games for a talented team.

I don't think Addai/Rhodes are as good on a regular basis as they looked tonight .. lol
Ehh... that's not entirely true.

They were dominant in the first half of the season. The point at which they no longer had Tommie Harris and Mike Brown represented the beginning of the end of their dominance. They weren't giving up big plays when they were holding teams to 10 points or less 6 times; shutting teams out twice. They WERE giving up teams when injuries lead to their vulnerability.

And I understand that injuries are part of the team. What I'm trying to point out is that this team had two faces this year: 1) WITH Brown and Harris 2) WITHOUT Brown and Harris.

The first one kicked ***. The second one, not so much.

He's probably happy, as he was probably rooting hard for his old team.
Crappy? Nah. Have you seen his contract numbers? He had to do what
he had to do.
