OK so when I was in High School I messed my ankle up pretty bad in football. Ever since then When I straighten it out by pointing my toes down then bend it back it cracks really loud. Other than that there was no problem........until.
I took the dog out about 2 months ago and went to step over a retaining wall and when I put my foot down it gave out and snapped really loud.
I got back in the house and iced it down because it started ballooning instantly. It bruised the next day, so I wrapped it and iced it when I could. The problem is now 2 months later(no swelling) it is extremely weak. If I put all my weight on that foot it gives out. If I turn sharply it gives out. Now I am starting to experience pain shooting from the ankle up my shin. I am wearing a brace on it but as soon as I take it off it feels weak. I chalked this up to not being a spring chicken anymore and the time to heal is obviously going to take longer. Is this something I should have xrayed? There is no swelling but the weakness and occasional pain is getting alittle on my nerves.

DSF, I am a workers' comp attorney so I know a little something about medicine. I would recommend that you at least get some x-rays taken, especially if you are getting some sort of radiating pain coming from the ankle and going elsewhere. The weakness could be related to various sorts of instability in the bone, joints, ligaments, etc. But, if this has been going on for 2 months and not getting any better, you should have a professional check it out. I have been involved in many cases where the injured worker gets hurt, waits 2 months to report the injury because they figured it would get better, only to later discover a much more serious problem. You don't want to be like that.
Good luck.

ya I would agree with the above statment. /\
I work in a medical clinic, but I am NOT a medical proffesional, but... it looks like it could be some bone or ligiment or maybe catalage damage. Get it checked out... NOW.
I know I'm not 30, but this is a mans health and I felt I could help.

Yes no kidding.. I remeber getting my MRI on my wrist as a local hospital. They mademe lay down in a weird way.. I said my shoulder hurt after wards, they said its ok. A year later I found out that I had some damage in my left shoulder. I know this is what it was from but I waited to long and never did anything about it.. DAMMET
