View Full Version : NCAA 08: The return of rocket-catching?

Anyone remember the cheesy tactic back with Madden 04 and 05 known as "rocket-catching'? I'm pretty sure it's back with the return of the offensive strafe in NCAA 08. I just got done doing it perfectly and fluently with Indiana U's James Hardy (6'7 with like a 90+ jump rating).

When you make posts like this, you've gotta mention if you're talking about current gen or next gen.

Renegade is Armon from MA, who can really play. He's on NG.

Someone got it off against me, so I tried it and was able to do it as well.
Its definitely there and it looks to be just as effective as it was back in the
day.

Rocket = sprint to circle, strafe manually then jump straight up? Do you bullet or lob a deep curl or comeback?

In screen shot I showed, I did it on a streak.

Are those two in addition to Mario Urrutia [6-6]?

I was mistaken its a 6'6 and 6'8 WR

So the 6'6 one is Mario Urrutia

Wow I don't know if I just picked it back up again but it seems incredibly easy to do. I bet everyone is going to be seeing this online alot in a matter of days...

If EA would let you switch to the CB instead of the freakin' safety on the deep ball, this wouldn't even be an issue.

Pass the ball, click on, position yourself in front of the circle, square up and jump.

awesome, doing it sometimes here in practice mode..takes some getting use to. is there a particular type of pass thats used, like a Lob, bullet etc and do you do any type of precision passing?

I do a bullet with precision down and to the WRs outside shoulder...

Well, I'd also like to talk about ways to stop it. I haven't labbed it yet so I'm just thinking out loud here. Does clicking on a defender and then hit sticking the receiver increase the chances of him dropping the ball?

i dunno, but the few times i have done it in practice mode the CPU does pretty good job of defending.. alot of times ill get hit with that Mid air collision animation and will drop the ball.

Its really not all that effective IMO, its inconsistent with the lag and defenders play it much better in online games then practice mode. I was doing it like it was nothing in practice mode and I go into a game and I can still do it but I've thrown a few picks.

Yeah, it's a bit harder to do online...

I just had a great game where Missouri beat Texas....7-0....lol.

Any of you guys want to lab this, hit me up online. I've got somethings that I need to try, and it's kinda hard to do them playing by yourself.
