Internet Problems....

Ok...so im here at Purdue...in my dorm that has an ethernet chord...i hook it up to the ps2 and it wont let me get online...it connects to the network and connects to my computer...but when the DNAS thing comes up is where it gets caught up...im guessing they got some kind of block on it or something...my buddy couldnt get his xbox 360 online either....so...

is there any way to "hack it" or something?? im guessing if i got a router it might fix it...but im not about to go buy one...

A router would only add to the firewalls you are probably trying to navigate through. You probably need to talk to the IT guy there and see what they can do... I can only assume that the proper ports are closed.

im wondering if i need the disc that you hook up the network adapter with (which of course i left at home)...im sure with a different connection you have to do that crap all over again...that might be it....

well...for the week and 3 days ive been here...its pretty cool....of course im in the dorm farthest away from everything...just my luck....gotta leave like 30 mins before my classes start...the chick situation is pleasantly surprising...everybody told me purdue had all the ugly ones and no fine chicks at all...(of course that compares to IU who is tough for anyone to compare to (in the nation) in the chick department)...but ive seen quite a few honeys...not as bad as i was thinking...

the food is pretty good...the lectures are huge (one of mine is like 600 ppl)...and the party life...the rule is pretty much be in a frat or party by yourself (for guys of course)....bringing a bunch of girls can normally do the trick (at least it did for me a couple times)...other than that...dont know what else you would want to know...its probably alot like any other 40,000+ students college...

and yes...purdue is known for engineering...its supposed to be really tough...ive been in classes 2 days and it seems like cake for now...alot of work...but easy...i guess time will tell...

Are you able to get onto ANY website you wish with your dorm supplied internet via your PC? I mean like..porn and such??? lol....... I doubt it but thatd be a good test to see how seriously they have you blockaded...... If so..like someone said a phone call to whoever is in charge of IT might get them to open it up if you explain and convince them its for online console gaming...then again i wouldnt doubt they have policies against that too...

ok when you are at the screen where your EA log in is displayed at the top and your network settings are displayed at the bottom (right after the loading when you hit "play online")

go to the bottom and edit the network settings again... its as good as the disc that comes with the network adapter...

go back and select auto for everything and then save after it connects during the connection test... if you havent done it yet then this is defenitely 1 thing that will cause you to not connect...

also if you can reset the modem when you switch between computers then do so by unplugging the power from the modem too... if you dont have access to the modem then disregard but defenitely delete the old network settings and create a new one like i said above...

To simplify things. You're using the schools internet connection. So you're ps2 or xbox needs to be configured for it.

You have to think that you and your roommate arent the only ones with a ps2 and xbox.

Someone has it hooked up online.

hella fine...IU for chicks is like the Harvard for education pretty much....

i just decided to go to purdue because the education is so much better (for engineering at least)...and i normally dont have a hard time picking up chicks...so i wasnt worried about it...although i know i have to "work alot harder" than i would at IU...that makes it that much better when it happens though...here...see it for yourself...

Well if its anything like my online, it might be the cord you're using. I say this because I've been using wireless connection between my comp/router and my ps2 ever since I got online. At some point, the online stopped working altogether by getting stopped at the DNAS screen and saying connection timed out. I got new wireless boxes and it works like new again. Then again, my house is nothing like your dorm but just a thought. Course if you try what I say and I'm wrong, thats 2 ethernet cords you have for no reason haha

ok...found somebody in my dorm who could get online...says i need to do the "manual settings" when it asks for manual or auto...says you need the mac address and a couple other things...i have no idea how to get that...

just set everything to auto,and it'll pick up your school's internet acess connection

all that stuff is something you need to check out with your school. U find your DNs,by typing in a certain command on your comp. But seeing as your in a school,the next logical thing is to get a router,then set everything to auto,there is no doubt that this won't work,cause most of the stuff that is required,comes with a router.
