    Will it be hard getting used to the Xbox controller?

    I'm used to playing Madden/NCAA on my PS2 but will be getting the Xbox version to play against a bunch of friends online. How hard is the different controller to get used to? Should I get a PS2 controller adapter and plug one of them in, instead? How does the Xbox controller map the L2/R2 that is missing on their controller?

    Well, for running the ball Right Trigger is juke & Left Trigger is stiff arm. You push on the left stick the direction you want to juke.

    On pass plays, black and white are used for pump fake and throw the ball away.

    The hardest part is seeing the X receiver on the screen and then hitting the wrong button on your Xbox controller. A couple of hours in practice mode and this is second nature.

    I've played Madden for YEARS on PS2 and I play it from time to time on my gf's XBOX. I have the converter that allows me to use my PS2 controller. The BIGGEST thing is that it REVERSES your shoulder buttons (so that R1 becomes R2 and L1 becomes L2). It sounds like something trivial, but it can become a nightmare at times. When I'm playing and I want to scale the screen back to see the defensive formation...I end up using the COACH CAM and showing my play vs a human opponent (this isn't an issue online as the oppoenent can't see your play anyway). Also, I keep shifting my DL when I want to shift my LBs and vice versa. Finally, on passing plays...I've found myself MASHING the wrong shoulder button on passing plays but I always forget that its reversed. Get sacked quite often like that. It really takes some getting used to. I guess if you played it ENOUGH...u'd get accustomed to it. VG_Bert makes a good point about the passing icons b/c X on the XBOX controller is [ ] on PS2. I just pass to my recievers based on location. [ ] is usually your left-most WR, X is typically TE, O is right WR and R2, L2 are your HB and FB.

    Or u can just memorize the icons (its easy for me b/c I play ESPN NBA 2004 on both systems, so I know them now)

    XB to PS2
    X = [ ]
    Y = Triangle
    B = O
    A = X

    i've got a wireless controller that is called an Eclipse for XB that has the dreaded black and white buttons as shoulder buttons. it's exactly the same layout as the ps2 controller and is well worth it.

    it will still take some getting use to though. for some reason my brain still thinks ps2. maybe it's because i've been playin using a ps controller since 98.

    Is there a way to map the buttons with a PS2 controller and adapter so you can use the same controller between both games?

    Bert and everyone else, there are 4 different controller configs with different butons doing different things. I use the config that allows my right and left triggers to juke to that side. i kept juking with the original config and never knew which way I was going to go. I'm sure it will be confusing at first button within a couple of days you will be fine.
    Thanks

    I think so, I got an Xbox for Ninja Gaiden and I've always played my sports titles on PS2 one day my old roomate came over who would use the Bucks and I would stomp him with FSU and he beat me 35-17, all because I didn't know the button functions!!!!! I just don't like the way Xbox's controller is et up, PS2 has all the buttons readily available for the screen adaptation of the plays.
