Same thing as Passing 101, sorry about the 90210, I liked the show-haaha
how do you read the play, follow blockers, match up stick, making reads on the option etc.....

THE WALLS OF TROY POLAMALU
I have been a long time reader of the Vg Sports Forums, but infrequent poster. Here is my 2 cents on running the ball. Keep in mind that I have been practicing/playing games on Varsity if that makes any difference for all you "experts".
I find that using the analog controller at the beginning of the run, then quickly switching to the d-pad when the hole open up works great. Switching to the d-pad seems to allow the runner to move with extreme precision while navigating through the hole, whether that hole is inside or outside.
The quick switch between analog and d-pad also allows the runner to make a brief stutter-step/pause in the runner's movement and subsequently allows for a really quick juke through the open hole. You don't want to run to the hole too quickly or else you run right into your blockers backs and get tackled for a loss immediately.
The o-line does seem to block fairly well most fo the time. There are holes to run through, it's just a matter of stick control to get the runner to do just what you want him to do.
Has anyone been able to perform the "super-quick-change-of-direction" animation after making a catch? I was playing a game yesterday and caught the ball surrounded by three defenders. My receiver's momentum was taking him toward the middle of the field. Immediately after making the grab, the receiver made a "super-quick-change-of-direction" toward the right sideline and outran the three defenders for six points
:Edit: Disregard what I said about using the analog stick. I have since moved up to All American level and the D-Pad only works even better, as someone said earlier

The super quick change of directions has not happened with a receiver. It seems like this years theme to the game is run and option, of cours HFA. My first game as was using the speed button too often, then I started to slow it down until I am through the hole, which is now paying off dividends.

I know if you look at the top 100 all of their stats say that they run more than 50 percent of the time. They use teams such as the Hokies jus to run the option all game. Which is unreal but it has happened in real life. It frequently woorks in the game also, but there is no way you can play with them without having 6, 7, or 8 high snaps a game.

The quick change of direction did occur against the Navy secondary (I was using VA Tech). I'm not sure if it was something I did or the fact the my receiver was that much better than the defenders. Maybe I just got lucky![]()
Whatever it was, the move/animation was incredible![]()
Back to running option...way back in high school I was taught that the QB and Pitch Man should always try to keep an equal distance between each other. If the Pitch Man is lined up 7 yards behind the QB, this 7 yard relationship should be maintained at all times. When the QB starts to turn upfield, the Pitch Man should do the same.
Since in the video game we have no control over the Pitch Man, it is our job as the QB to try and maintain this relationship. It is kind of hard to explain without seeing it in action (if you don't already know).

To do the manual juke, just quickly change the direction that you are running. You cannot manual juke while speed bursting--this is the main reason why people can't pull it off.
