ABSOLUTELY----GET it!!!!!! Best thing is that on ebay you can get the game for about $25-30 now because enough peeps have played it out already and are ready to plug into differing games, etc.
I too, like you, was just making the jump to new generaion, but damm it I do not ALWAYS find myself playing the PS2 version rather than thePS3 version again this year. To me, if you are in it for the FUN and madden-like atmosphere of the game, especially online, there is no doubt that the PS2 version will suit you well, as good if not far better than this year's new gen game. 2009 new gen Madden IS a great improvement--but to me atleast, it STILL is many levels BELOW the PS2 version yet again.
At FIRST, you will suspect that ps2 madden did not change at all---WOW would you be so far from the truth there---the changes are indeed NOTICEABLE butit take time for you to gain the appreciation for the changes that were made. In MY MIND and from my own scale of FUN and ENTERTAINMENT, this years current gen Madden 2009 is the single graetest Madden of all time, if not the best football game ever ( who will ever forget two of the greatest previous games-----TECMO BOWL series and SEGA's College football, not to mention NFL 2K4)...The 2009 PS2 Madden ranks up there nicely with ALL the greats in my estimation and opinion ( which is worth as much as ****paper that has been used, TWICE OVER!!!) .
Get it---well worth the $30 investment.....
