Majority Sports Fans Vote Utah #1

Was just browsing and I saw the link at msnbc.com

    Results should be right here

    49% to the Utes
    32% to the Gators

    as of 11pm, Friday night

pretty interesting. (not that it'll change anything)

This poll at ESPN has voters choosing Florida over Utah.

Online polls don't really mean anything. The fact that every coach except for Utah's Whittingham voted for Florida as number 1 does say something.

Sadly enough, you'd be on the Utah bandwagon if it was any other team other than Florida that stood in front of them. IMO a team that's undefeated is the best team in the country. A team that throttled the same team that the 'National Champions' struggled to beat, deserves recognition. The BCS is absurd and not rightly fair to a number of schools.

My call should be a split title, everyone knows Utah deserves it.

Yeah, it says that the coaches are obligated to vote for the BCS champion, and Whittingham will lose his privledges to vote.

Nothing else you can take from that.

NO I understand that they deserve a championship shot because they are undefeated. But what exactly did they accomplish prior to beating Alabama. Before they played Alabama, they schedule wasn't impressive at all. And by the time they had beaten Alabama, by the the time they were scheduled to play Alabama, the BCS championship had already been decided. Before the Sugar Bowl both Oklahoma and Florida had much better accomplishments.

The bottom line is that its all completely subjective, one side can say that Utah deserves it because they are undefeated, and another side thinks that Utah didn't deserve because their schedule wasn't as impressive. It wasn't until they beat Alabama that people were like "oh crap this team is legit". By that time it was already too late.

Utah's accomplishments prior to the bowl games being decided:
    -No. 12 TCU
    -No. 14 Brigham Young

Yeah the Alabama win is awesome, but its too bad the BCS championship isn't announced after the Sugar Bowl.

Well, for starters, they didn't lose to Ole Piss at home.

What did anyone do to deserve it this year? This year was the biggest cluster**** possible.

In my book, USC and Florida were probably the best two teams in the nation. USC got hosed. Texas got hosed. Utah got hosed. Even Penn State got hosed.

Playoff or die. FBS championship is a sham.

Hell, people did a better job of determining the national champ when it was entirely poll based. I'd rather go back to the old system than watch the current crap unfold.

Nope. I wouldn't. Especially when said team (Florida) played the 4th toughest schedule in the nation (played 11 bowl teams), had the 4th ranked offense in the nation, had the 4th ranked defense in the nation, led the nation in interceptions (2nd overall in t/o margin), and we only gave up 6 touchdowns the last 8 games of the season. Utah played the 56th toughest schedule in the nation, and they finished undefeated, which I applaud, but they don't deserve #1.

We were dominant from top to bottom, and our total body of work was more impressive.

(Yes, I am for a playoff)

You mean the same Ole Miss team that beat Florida, LSU, and Texas Tech? And barely lost too Alabama by 4 points? Yeah OK, thats definitely not piss level. It was a legitimate loss, they are a very good team and are on the rise.

Your point is that we need a playoff system? Tell me something we already didn't know. The college football season is over, and all indication is that its not changing anytime in the next few years. I hope it does, but arguing about it continually even after the BSC championship is over it futile.

And I agree with you, USC is probably the only team in the country that I would fear us playing against. Its a shame Sanchez is leaving, because I would have loved to see a USC vs Florida matchup next year.

Ole Piss will always be Ole Piss. Sorry. I'll never refer to them as anything other than that.

Don't take offense, but I have an honest question (and it doesn't have anything to do with the topic or validity of your opinion, which is worthwhile either way)...

Did you follow Florida football, SEC football, or even college football closely prior to becoming a student at UF?

Depends on what you mean by closely. If you mean did I pay attention to all the players at UF, knew all thier names, how good players are in the SEC with respect to each other, understanding matchups, football strategy, then no. But I watched every game since I was in about middle school, and was a Gator fan my whole life. My mom and dad both went to UF, and I've been raised a Gator.
