Best D against deep passes to middle or deep slot recievers

with most people i play my general defense is good when they go to 4 wr sets. I sometimes user a DT who has pretty good speed and just put him in mid of field. I have found that to work better than messing with the middle LB and sometimes getting burnt by TE's and backs making slants accross the middle of field when thier QB has time. I was kicking this guy's *** 14-0 and he started going deep like 15-20 yards a pop to the slot recievers running like deep patterns and I was using the quarter d, the nickle 2 2 5 and tried dime, tried a few diff things and he kept completing them. I eventually picked him off in OT before going down the field and Jacobs taking it in from 20 yds to win tho lol.

the formation you run has alot less to do with stopping those particular routes(deep seam/post/middle routes) then the coverages you are calling.

your best bet to stop those routes is either a heavy deep zone(i.e. cover 4, cover 3 or a man under coverage... 2 man under or 3 man under). and/or bring heavy pressure.

if you want to stop the deep pass you need to either pressure him to the point where he doesnt have time for the route to get open or have enough coverage there to break up the pass... or better yet, BOTH. if he is going 4 WR, he doesnt have much blocking, id try a a cover 4 or cover 3 zone blitz with alot of defense in the deep middle.

which man would be best to USER, im guessing dont mess with the D-lineman, let them rush but instead user a LB or safety and follow whatever coverage area they supposed to have am i correct?

i wouldnt user the DT. for one he is going to have all day to throw, and second the DT isnt going to be very agile in coverage.

i would use the OLB. id let the MLB/Safety be cpu control so that you dont manually screw up the deep middle zones they are covering. id use the OLB and shadow the TE slot WR you think is getting the ball.

that or manually rush with the OLB/DE/DT.
