    stopping the short routes?

I played a guy who would just nickel and dime me on the the short routes over the middle, flats. he had like 3 guys running these little dump routes and if i manually covered one, he checked off to the next one. it was tough to defend.

does dropping lineman help control the really short routes? anyone got a defense they would recommend for this? I'd love to hear some input from the defensive masterminds.

I'm no mastermind for sure but my offense tends to be kind of like this... I am not very good at passing deep so I kind of dink and dunk my way down the field and I can tell you what sort of defenses are toughest for me: pressure is still the key because I need a little time to go through my progressions. Put more people in shallow zones (e.g. cover 2 sink), bring the defenders up close to the line of scrimmage, call bump and run and highlight a slot receiver (this will usually cause the slot to be bumped even though its zone as long as you have a defender over top of them close to the los). Some other ideas are to put the tackles in QB spy or put LBs in QB spy and pit DEs into yellow zones. Concentrate on the TE, Slot WRs and HB... less attention to the WRs.

Some may disagree with this but this is the type of defense that seems to give me the most trouble

    Cool

Have you tried putting pressure on the QB. Madden 10 is all about pressure on the quarter back. Try cover audibling your defense to play like their blitzing or playing the run. That way your corners are jamming the recievers routes. That should help. also what DF plays/packages are u running?

I run a lot of cover 2 to try and guard the flats. Then sometimes I like to run a "man" blitz package and delay bump n run.
What do you suggest I should run?
