How Do You User Control DL's And Be Effective?

Im not good at user control LB or S in this game, so Im stuck trying to cause disruption with my DTs and DE's but the middle zone defenders in this game, especially short, are idiots..what's a guy to do?

Controlling a safety is sometimes more about containment then actually making a play. You can cheat and take away tosses and bottle up the running game. Your CPU controlled LB and DB make actually make the tackle instead of you. And that is okay. If you you are stopping your opponent, does really matter if it is user play or not? If you aren't good at hit stick, don't use it. You can tackle with out it. Just don't expect to jar the ball loose.

In most occassions, people won't challenge your user controlled safety directly. So don't expect a lot of ball thrown at your user controlled safety. Just keep in mind you might have a zone that you have to occupy when picking a certain play. Keep that in mind, when your opponent calls a playaction pass. They will wait for you to pull you safety out of the zone and kill you with a drag or a post.

Wen using the DE, its all about getting off the snap as quick as possible, and performing a move as soon as you engage. I have most success using the LE. Look for someone with either a high power or finnesse move. I like Power moves more.

If you need to stop shorter passes, go on a LB or S, but do not move him. Let the CPU control him and just jump the route when you see the guy that is open underneath.

I don't usually user a D Lineman. But when I do, I always put them is a QB Spy and hold the sprint button. This allows your D Lineman to get a quick first step in any direction. However, if you plan on just rushing straight ahead, I suggest just holding the right stick to the left or right before the snap to get into your move faster.

I do recommend learning to control a LB of Safety. It may be tough at first but it's better in the long run. Practice in the Madden Virtual Trainer.

    I always control my RE.

Shift your line to the left, and crash them that way; move your LB's to the right, re-blitz your RE (X then down on the right stick); once the ball is snapped press R2 and then down on the right stick, your man will typically move right around the LT.

So true i love contolling DL's after spending time in tha LAB. And you will find that putting them in spy with a quick loop works wonders. Beleive it or not it helps alot being able to contol DL's you can let the rest of your D do their thing. I always believe in Madden it helps to be able to control every player on D. Nothing more exciting than to manually get a sack well maybe a user pick lol.

I've grown some in usering the DL. From time to time I'll do it. However I'm usually always on a safety or LB. I set up my heat to get in and disrupt without me having to manual that. With so much going on I'm needed on the back-end, trying to take away my opponents comfort plays and areas on the field.

Best thing is, just strafe your area. When you play with a man in space (zone) pass the player off to another person in zone. IE: If you see a WR coming across the middle in your area then shadow him but only until he exits your zone. Pass him off to the next man in zone and go protect a spot of the field that is potentially threatened.
