    Question Backs in the flats

What is the technique for catching balls in the flats? I seem to always hit my runningback in the back or throw it over his head....

Lead ur RB into the pass. If he is running to the left throw the ball to his inside (Right) shoulder and vice versa. tends to work for me. Also DONT lob the ball to him unless ur rb gets behind the d. ALWAYS throw a bullet when tryin this pass.

The technique is to whack the EA programmers over the head repeatedly until they correctly program how the damn backs run swing patterns.

...Yes...this would be the best technique!!...LOL!....

...The swing passes are broken this year, you just have to work on finding the ones that work....one of the swing passes that I have the most success with is the PA FB Flat pass out of the I Normal.....just snap the ball, run the play fake and throw it to the FB (sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't!).....it also helps to have RB/FBs with good hands and awareness....if you want to get your backs involved in the passing game, motion them out to a wideout spot and run IN routes or streaks against LBs.....

check out my Run and Gun PB and look under the shotgun spread formation. there are tons of ways to get your back involved in the passing game out of this formation

I used to have a ton of problems with these throws as well, but after lots of practice and frustration I think there is a very precise throw that can by reliably completed. Do a quick 1-2-3 count in your head on the drop back and throw with just enough touch so that the back tries to catch the ball over their shoulder. Any pass with too much velocity causes the back to try for the catch below the waist and gives you the same hip catch animation that causes so many dropped balls on crossing routes.

And if you get good enough protection, the backs will eventually stop their routes and sit down in the flat, allowing you to put a bit of zip on the pass- works pretty well against zone coverage.
