Easy to understand state of our debt...

Mods please move if this becomes political debate.

This isn't necessarily pro or anti Obama...just showing the state of our growing debt...pretty interesting explanation that anybody can understand.

Good link. The stuff on his youtube page is more interesting though. Check out the one debunking the myth that Obamacare will reduce the deficit.

I dunno... dude is complaining about one phase of spending cuts that will remove $100 million from the deficit. Seems to me ya gotta start somewhere.

If this dude is waiting for one all-inclusive, sweeping plan that's going to reduce everything at one time then he better save some more pennies, every POTUS after this one, no matter what party he is from, is going to have to deal with this problem......... And none of them will have that all-inclusive, sweeping plan to fix it.

You missed the whole point of the video. It's the fact that 100 million dollars is NOTHING. It's like if I cut 1 dollar out of my personal spending for the year. IT WOULDNT MATTER. 100 million dollars sounds like a big number, but it's not anything, when it comes to our governments spending. It doesn't matter if no POTUS can make sweeping cuts or not.

The video is missing the point about cuts altogether, acting like that's the only spending cut that's going to be proposed or has been proposed

And how the hell did you let Swift beat you in the last minute?

Uhm....the democrats are the ones complaining about Boehner's plan to cut spending as being a "drop in the bucket" and you say this?

Here's a better one for you NB. It debunks the "if the CBO says it, it must be true" nonsense you throw around.

    1. I don't care what Dems or Republicans are saying about each other. Did "I" say Boehner's cuts were a drop in the bucket? Nope, I did not.

    2. Maybe they should have thought about not spending More and MORE and MORE when Bush was in office. We're not broke because of the health care reform.

    3. From the same person who used the CBO as a brick when it benefitted his point of view... lol. Please, allow me to quote one of your posts using the CBO as your "non-partisan" source....

Wow, I can't beleive what a bunch of ultra right wing neo cons the associated press have become.

Untill people are willing to cut defense spending and other big spending items and raise taxes nothing will change.

If the GOP wants to comprimise how about dropping the health care bill in exchange for the roll back on the tax cuts for the rich. It's funny how much the GOP whines about spending but then they are willing to add trillions to the debt with tax cuts.

Another thing Obama did was start counting the Wars on the books, Bush never added them to the spending amount while he was president.

You don't need to raise taxes on anyone to cut the debt and actually the government would lower the amount of revenue it pulled in by doing so.

During the Cooldrige Admininstration taxes were actually cut at the upper bracket from 75% to 24% and 4% to 1/2% at the lower bracket and the debt dropped from $26 billion to $16 billion. It's no small number for it's time as $26 billion is about $3.2 trillion today.

Once Hoover and FDR came in the taxes on the upper bracket was raised over 80% by 1935, and they needed to raise excise taxes in order to compensate for the lost revenue.

So it's certainly possible though unlikely with the nanny state mentality that the popluation has today to cut the deficit without raising taxes on anyone.

Now, now...don't go talking crazy, and using actual facts to back up your stuff!! We ALL KNOW that raising taxes is the only way to battle our massive debt. LOL

Only rich people are greedy though so we should punish them for being successful anyway regardless of consequence and ignore the fact that people who want to tax them high are really envious of their wealth.

Well here are some more facts concerning Ronald Reagan-

The numbers tell the story. As predicted, Reagans massive $749 billion supply side tax cuts in 1981 quickly produced even more massive annual budget deficits. Combined with his rapid increase in defense spending, Reagan delivered not the balanced budgets he promised, but record setting deficits. Even his OMB alchemist David Stockman could not obscure the disaster with his famous rosy scenarios.

Forced to raise taxes twice to avert financial catastrophe (a fact conveniently forgotten in the conservative hagiography of Reagan manufactured by the GOPs 2008 ticket of John McCain and Sarah Palin), the Gipper nonetheless presided over a tripling of the American national debt. By the time he left office in 1989, Ronald Reagan more than equaled the entire debt burden produced by the previous 200 years of American history.
    Since we're talking facts here.
