Disc Read Error On Madden Disc

Hey guys I don't know if this topic has already been addressed.....oh well here it goes......

I have Madden 2005 Special Edition for the PS2. It has been working with no problems what so ever until recently. Now when I load up Madden all I get is a "Disc Read Error". I even tried putting different games in and the PS2 reads it fine. There are no scratches or anything on the disc. So I tried wiping it down with a lens cloth and I also put in a DVD laser cleaner in the PS2.....but I still get the same error. So as a last resort....during the interface screen when you first load up the game I went into the settings. I put "Diagnosis" (not sure what this does) from OFF to ON. I also changed the PS2 driver settings from STANDARD to FAST and I also enabled TEXTURE MAPPING.

I did this out of totally desperation......and low and behold it frickin WORKS!!!! I do these changes everytime I turn off the PS2 and I dont get that error message anymore.

Just want to check if this happened to anyone else?

Damn the link didn't work, well just go to the bottom left corner, click on forums, and type disc read error into the search engine

Thanks guys, that link was very informative. I hope I don't have to end up opening my PS2....

It's weird that the only game I get the "Disc Read Error" on is Madden.....and when I changed the driver settings on the PS2 it works......weird......

I used to have that PS2 driver update that came with the remote but I somehow lost that memory card it was in and I can't seem to find the disc. Does this driver update help read games or is it just mainly for DVDs?
