They had a chance to trade him for something of relevance leading up to this point. And trade talks always had Bynum's or Gasol's involved. So it's really a $h1tty deal when they give up Howard and don't get EITHER.

In this day and age, its nearly impossible to create a team via draft because players and management are impatient. They aren't waiting around long enough to put the pieces in place to be a team. Drafting is hit or miss and you need multiple stars to be relevant enough to in anything.

I bet if you checked the rosters of the last few championship teams none of them would have the very many homegrown key players.

Any chance that Stern vetoes this again?

The Magic couldn't even get rid of Hedo Turkoglu's contract.

Basically in a four team trade they gave up by far the best player, didn't get the 2nd or 3rd best player, couldn't dump their worst contract, and got a bunch of lottery-protected picks for the distant future. Awful.

Rockets or Nets package was way better than this crap the Magic received.

It's a travesty the way Orlando handled this situation. They let D12 hold them hostage for nearly two years, forced their coach out, and made last season a complete mess. At the minimum they could have salvaged it all by taking one of those offers. They are going to be in the shtter for a long time.

No wonder the owner was making drunken phone calls like a college sloot to Dwight. Talk about desperation.
Welker a possesion WR's just like all Caucasian WR's so when you can no longer do that, you gotta sit the bench or learn how to kick FGs or Punts -STICKTHEVICKTIM

I believe if he can decide to bring it every night Bynum is better than Howard, better offensive skill set, better free throw shooter, taller and just as muscular, I currently give the edge to Howard on defense

Bynum has the better post-up game and is better at not committing fouls, but Howard moves much better without the basketball both offensively and defensively. Howard is more physical and is the much more consistent player.

That team played well and probably would of won the title that year if not for the injuries they ended up with late in the season. It might take a season for this team to learn to play together but I think they could win titles 2 of the next 3 seasons if they stay together.

Howard, if healthy (?) gives the Lakers a championship caliber defense that Bynum is clearly not capable of. The trade off is some post game intangibles that really Gasol is better off doing anyway. With Howard, the team needs a scheme that can funnel the ball into the paint at him. The whole team needs to buy into said scheme and call the right plays on offense.

I agree that this team has the tools to win a ship' or two but that comes down to the coaching now. I don't think Mike Brown is a championship coach at current. We will see if he can lead a team of stars this season, but without a guy players can respect, this team may fall into disarray. This isn't Miami where they can get away with freelance and fast breaking all game. After last season, do you think the Lakers seriously respect the coaching staff? The alternative is that they deffer to Nash's leadership to keep them on track. I am not sure Nash is "that guy" either. Kobe isn't, Howard isn't.

Makes you wonder how "fixed" the league really is huh?

Stern has been corrupt. The league is definitely fixed. We tune in cuz WE don't know the outcome.

Your 100% right about the coaching part. I think Brown should be fired and Sloan should be a better fit. On the Howard and Bynum thing, it really doesn't matter if Kobe wants to take 30+ shots a night and shoot 43% from the field. That alone will take any dominate bigman out the game. That was the real problem with the lakers. We ran 5 plays on offense and they all went to Kobe. Nash is a better point and much more respected player to let that happen. The lakers could have beaten OKC last year if they didn't play heto ball. Also on Pau being a much better post up scorer then Bynum, that was not the case anymore and also Pau dissapeared 2 straight years in the playoffs. It didn't help tho with his fustartion of how the offense was ran playing iso Kobe
