    Rebuilding the Colts D...

Well out of sheer boredom with StuperStar (what a joke) I stared a Colt chise even though I hate the Colts I thought it would be fun to rebuild their D.

It's really not that bad I guess as it's rated 85 which I gather is about average or a bit higher.

I'll address some initial position needs:

DT: needs some help. Montae Reagor and Larry Tripplett are 83 and 82 OVR respectively and lacking somewhat in STR and ACC.

ROLB: Cato June is fast enough (SPD 82) but weak (STR 63) but I guess he is acceptable for now.

MLB: Rob Morris is aging (age 30), slow, and very weak for a runstopper (STR 78).

LOLB: David Thorton lacks the speed (SPD 79) needed for a coverage LB that might be needed in Nickle cover schemes.

All the LB positions are in desperate need of quality backups.

CB: now this is the big weak spot.

Nick Harper and Jason David are the two highest rated CBs at 81 OVR. Not shutdown. They also lack speed at 87 and 88 respestively. Not blazing by any standard.

Rookie Marlin Jackson has all the tools to be a great CB but lacks elite speed. He would fit in as a nickel or dime back later on. Likewise for rookie Kelvin Hayden.

    FS:

Mike Doss is adequate for year 1 but he lacks the jumping ability needed to compete for the ball with bigger receivers with hops in the AFC like Braylon, Randy Moss, Chad Johnson, Andre Johnson, and Jerry Porter, and defending the seam TE routes against the likes of Gonzales and Gates.
No we will need more deep speed and more leaping ability in our FS. We also need quality backups.

    SS:

Bob Sanders is a great young safety. He's fast, he's strong, has good burst, great takling for a DB and marginal leaping ability. If we work on his hands and his jumping then we have a perennial pro bowler. Need backups here also.

I"m only going to use MGD players and I will be simming the seaons and playing playoff games if i make it. I may spend draft picks on a couple of other positions that are in need of desperate help like FB and G.

    I will update every offseason.

If you have questions or comments feel free to post.

After simming the first season the team finished 11-5.

There were several pro bowlers on D: Freeney, Rob Morris (145 tackles DPOY LBstar this is from sheer tackles mind you), Marlin Jackson (rookie, which proves what i said in the first post), and Mike Doss (he didn't put up huge numbers).

Now I'm playing the Divisional game vs the Chiefs.

you should jump at the chance to get a strong DT to anchor the line or a CB with elite speed in the draft. if u cant get to the qb with indy, their CB's won't hold up. i think they are okay at lb for now, but their DT's are very weak and none of their CB's make a nice #1 CB.
are u going to resign edgerrin james, or did you already? he probably wants a LOT of money and this can be a crucial decision when it comes to helping out the D. but a stud RB is needed, so hold onto him if u can or trade him for a 2nd round pick, that would be realistic.

I will post the D's season stats after I get through the playoffs.

I probably won't keep James just because if I need to boost the D I'm going to have to sign several people and I can't do that if I give James $50 million. I can find someone else that's just as good.

Simming is so boring. Just play the games yourself.

I play the playoff games. I don't play every game it takes much too long and the stats aren't realistic espeically for the defense.

Manning had over 350 yards passing in a romping of the Chiefs. Now they face the patriots in the Conferance game.

The D is pretty much unable to stop anyone from driving the length of the field.

    That sounds pretty accurate.

Are you planning on discarding any of your players to get more picks (or to trade for MGD's after the draft)?

I'm not sure yet I'll have to see what the draft holds. I'm certainly not above going for picks and getting rid of some of the guys that don't really fit a cover 2 defense.

Update: The Pats are making my D and O look silly. Everyone is getting burned except M. Jackson and Sanders.

Wow I'm getting totally owned 17-0 at the half.

Oh and the refs are totally screwing me over. 3 pass int calls 2 def and 1 offensive. The 2 defensive were on consecutive plays. Total BS.

Well I changed my mind. To be as realistic as possible I'm going to use my draft classes from NCAA 2006 to extrapolate how the Colts should draft 4 years into the future using acutal college players. I'm in the offseason now and I'll post the first draft in a bit.

First off my defensive stats from 2005:

The D wasn't that bad, it was ranked 6th overall, 18th in passing and 3rd in rushing. This is to be expected because user teams are almost always beastly on D no matter who you use. The redzone D was 21st in the league with teams scoring on my D 83% of the time.

I have a whole slew of RFAs and I'm trying to decide who I should resign.

Mathis, Cato June, and some backup DBs. I'm not picking up the backups but i may resign mathis and June since they are both rated 87 OVR.

I currently have $50 mill in cap room!!

Edgerrin wants $6.5/year for 4 years and that much as a bonus.

Thats not so bad. The problem is that virtually ALL my WRs need resigned.
I resigned Stokley and Wayne, the rest can walk.

On the defense, I let Raheem Brock go because Mathis can start at LE if need be.

DT Larry Tripplett is also up I think I'll resign him and trade Reagor.

The LOLB position is a mess. Both Rogers and Thorton are up and I"m not resigning either they are too slow for a cover 2 and not strong either.

Since Morris got DPOY and whatnot at MLB I guess I'll resign him to a 2 year deal even though he is slow and weak. The backup can walk.

ROLB is also a mess. All three have one year left on their contracts. Pope and June are fast enough for a cover 2 but I don't like either of them but I just won't renew their contracts. I have enough needs as it is this year.

The secondary is a bigger mess with everyone but Hayden and Jackson with 1 year remaining. If i draft a high CB then I'll cut Nick Harper and anyone else who doesn't have bonus money coming.

Since Mike Doss went to the ProBowl I might keep him for the last year of his contract.

Alot of these guys will be holding out next year because they are only making about $600k and they are all in the high 80s in rating.

When I'm done drafting later tonight I'll post.

Just incase you didn't know it is a game witch mean it is not real. Witch always leaves to unrealistic stats in some way or another. So it is best to enjoy the game and such. Simming is still unrealistic too. I simmed a season L.T finish with 2457 rushing yards. WTF a simmed season with unrealistic still. So I am just saying it is beat to enjoy the game and play. Plus I resign Mike Doss because he can lay the wood on recievers.

Dude...shut yer freakin' piehole. The man can play how ever he wants to. You don't like to sim - fine. Don't. But please stop acting as though you're the only one allowed to have an opinion.
