    recognize cover 2

is there a way to recognize a cover 2 defense before the snap. something about the positioning of the defense that hints to it? im getting burned by players who run a cover 2 defense. i tried running but i couldnt. he was playing with tampa bay. i threw 3 straight interceptions. this guys favorite formation was dime and favorite playbook was cover2 but i still couldnt run.

    thanks for your advice.

    Corner routes destroy cover 2.

You cannot recognize anything along those lines pre-snap.

Just cause he's running a cover 2 playbook doesn't mean he is running a cover 2 play. In a cover 2 play the corner backs play the flats... on the way to the flats they'll bump the reciever. If you mistake cover 2 for bump and run man coverage then you're going to throw a pick in the flats.

Watch the safeties, they'll split out to the side lines. Another good way to tell is use Long View...that way you'll see what the CBs do after the snap.

sorry which ones are the corner routes. is it the straight line than an 45 angle to the sideline? how do you hot route that? is it L2 for left reciever and R2 for right reciever?

should i use a corner route on the slot reciever?

so if i get past the bump with a streak then the safety gets me. the corner route should do the trick? hit the reciever when he makes the cut to the sideline? i dont have much time to see if the corner stays in the flat after the bump before i get sacked.

A lot of option routes will have a corner route as one of the options and I think most receivers will take the corner on a cover 2, but I may be mistaken. As for hot routing to a corner route, I have no clue as I do not own '06 yet. Sorry.

Gotta go into coaching stratedgy in the main menu. Should be a menu there for hot routes.

You can't hot route to a corner route unless you change it in your custom audibles (under My Madden...Coaching Strategy) However, custom audibles are NOT carried over when playing online.

TE fly pattern & FL corner route work well (same side). Also, if you can find a play where HB runs swing route to that side the CB will have to stay in his zone.

Quick hitters up the middle should eat dime cover 2 up. There are only 5 in the box vs. 5 lineman, TE & FB. If opponent has man lock on the cover 2 zone will have some major holes in it. Also, defenders first reaction in zone coverage is to back peddle.

Don't run draws or counters because the increased speed of a dime defense will run it down from behind.
