Qwiksand's 2006 Titans Franchise (now with videos page 4)

I decided to start my first franchise with the Titans. I wanted tio strart with 'garbage with a glimmer of hope'and since the 49ers are my favorite team and awful, I didn't want to use them. The Titans are just as bad so I chose them.

I signed Ty Law to beef up the secondary and made a few created players in the 70s. We have a $53.79 payroll and $31.71 cap room. I will have a website up once the regular season starts. Here are the position battles (rookie):
    WR1 Callico / Nardella
    TE Kinney / Troupe
    LE Odom / Schobel
    RE Goldberg / LaBoy
    DT Haynesworth / Starks
    MLB Kassell / Calmus
    CB Jones / Woolfolk

    any big position battle upsets?

What was your reasoning for signing Ty Law, are you making a run at the playoffs? He is an expensive pickup.

I was just writing this as you posted. Most of the winners of the position battles were upsets which are in bold:
    QB McNair
    WR2 Nardella
    TE Troupe
    LE Odom
    RE Goldberg
    DT Starks
    MLB Calmus
    CB Jones

I signed Ty Law as part of the rebuilding phase, because with his experience and ratings, he will be a good mentor to the young CBs I have now. I feel the price was worth it since I have PLENTY of cap room. You'll see in one of the next posts that he gets injured and a rookie will be starting for the next 6 weeks since I am simming the games right now and compling the stats.

As was mentioned, we had some pretty big upsets in the position battles. We're excited to see some of our newer players playing hard from the start. I got this email from the owner this morning:

"First off, I wanted to welcome you to the organization. I know it may be a little early since the ink is still drying, but signing on the line was the first step in the progression of our team.

I noticed you are already getting your hands dirty in the evaluating and management of our players. I just passed Ty Law in the hallway and he seems to be happy to be here. Good move. A player of his calliber and with his experience could only help our young secondary. Also I see you brought in some homegrown young talent at some prominent positions. You must have some pretty good faith to bring so many rookies in. I trust your judgement though, you wouldn't be here if I didn't.

We have had a lot of fan support in the past but lately it has been waning. I know we will get that back. One thing we have managed well is our salary cap. We still have room to make some more adjustments right away if we need to.

In closing, I have high hopes for the team, and I know you do as well. I will leave the big decisions in your hands as I know you are capable. thanks for coming aboard.

    Phil McCracken"

That's comforting to know he has confidence in me. Here's hoping we can turn this franchise around. We're starting with fan support of 78%, a prestige of 60% and approval rating of 29% with McNair as our sole icon. Let's start the climb...

He's a friend I created. I honestly don't know why he won the spot but that's who the game chose. I posted all of the stats above and they're a little less than Calico's. They each had a touchdown but Calico had 60 more yards, however Nardella had zero drops and Calico had 3. Maybe they felt his sure hands got him the job?

that's the plan, to go for youth with potential. I am still learning a lot about the 'upsides' and attributes that don't change and what to look for so it'll take a few drafts to get it right.

So, we made it through the preseason undefeated and injury free. If it gets to be too easy I will adjust the sliders accordingly. For now, I just wanna have fun with it and get used to it. Here is the progression report from the end of preseason (** rookies):

Law CB 1 ovr 1 awr 1 cth
    Haynesworth DT 1 awr
McNair QB -1 ovr -1 awr

Kassell MLB 1 ovr 2 awr
Starks DT 1 ovr 2 awr 2 tak
Calmus CB 1 ovr 2 awr
Jones CB 1 ovr 2 awr 1 cth

LaBoy RE 2 ovr 3 awr 3 tak
Odom LE 3 ovr 4 awr 3 tak
    Kimrin K 1 ovr 2 awr 1 kac
Beckham CB 1 ovr 4 awr 1 tak

    Amano C 3 ovr 4 awr 2 pbk 2 rbk 2 sta

Nice to see some rookies progressing immediately. I'll be keeping an eye on their progress.

Billy Volek seems to be unhappy that he is the backup. We'll see how McNair does before I make any changes. Odom wins his position battle and steps up right away.

It looks like Volek got his wish for playing time, although not a start. McNair must have been benched or knocked out of the game. He's not listed as injured, however Ty Law Fractured his Upper Arm and is out for 7 weeks. This is bad news since he was a costly free agent, however it will give one of our top rookies, Adam Jones, a chance to shine in that role. I'll keep tabs on how he does.

Volek is complaining again. McNair's not doing too well but as long as we win he will start. Well, we were plagued with injuries this week. C Hartwig's high ankle strain will keep him out for 3 weeks, WR Roby is out for the season with a broken wrist and RT Roos's sprained elbow will sideline him for 3 weeks. Our prestige has raised from 60% to 70%, fan support from 78% to 89% and approval rating from 29% to 34%. We're on the right track. Our luxury boxes were $500 below the league average so we adjusted to match.

McNair seems to barely get over 100 yds a game plus throws a lot of INTs. I am benching him and going with Volek who has zero ints so far. Jones seems to be stepping up in his CB as a rookie with Law going down to injury. He has an INT in both games so far. Our fan support has risen from 89% to 98% and approval from 34% to 38%. We're still going in the right direction.

Well, the Volek experiment didn't work, so it's back to McNair. There was an injury to our RG Olson 10 weeks for broken ribs. Not good. That's 5 guys on the mend. Hopefully our backups/rookies can step up and keep us afloat.
    ----------------------------
    Progression:
Bulluck ROLB 1 ovr 1 awr
Haynesworth DT 1 ovr 1 awr
Brown RB 1 ovr 1 awr 2 car
McNair QB -1 ovr -1 awr -1 tha (this is two progressions that McNair went down. Volek may get more time)
Sirmon LOLB 1 ovr 1 awr
Starks DT 1 ovr 1 awr 1 tak
Jones CB 1 ovr 2 awr 1 cth
Troupe TE 1 ovr 2 awr 1 cth 1 rbk
Woolfolk CB 2 ovr 3 awr 1 cth
vg Qwiksand WR 1 ovr 1 awr 1 cth

Fleming FB 4 ovr 4 awr 5 pbk 3 rbk
    Kimrin K -1 ovr -1 awr -1 kac
    B. Jones WR -1 ovr -1 awr -1 cth
    R. Williams WR -1 ovr -1 awr -1 cth
Spencer ROLB -1 ovr -1 awr -1 tak

Pretty good progression, especially Fleming, but the bottom 4 are oddly losing attributes.

I got a note from the owner that he felt McNair should start again. After watching the tapes, he does have some good movement as of late so he gets another shot against the Bengals this week.

    Week 6 vs CIN W 38-20
    Passing-
    McNair 13/18 135 yds 1 td 1 int
    Volek 7/11 82 yds 2td (odd)

    Rushing-
    Brown 115 yds 1 td 1 fum
    Fleming 12 yds 1 td

    Receiving-
    Bennett 5 rec 69 yds 2 td
    Troupe 5 rec 64 yds 1 td

    Kicking-
    Kimrin 1/1 fg 5/5 xp

    Returns-
    vg Qwiksand 58 yds

    Defense-
    Bulluck 9 tak 1 sack 1 ff
    Sirmon 6 tak
    Calmus 5 tak
    vg Realhawker 3 tak
    Woolfolk 3 tak 1 ff
    Goldberg 1 tak 1 sack
    Williams 1 tak 1 int

    -----------------------------------------
    Week 7 vs ARI W 19-17
    Passing-
    McNair 21/37 248 2 td (finally)

    Rushing-
    Brown 90 yds 1 td 1 fum

    Receiving-
vg Qwiksand 7 rec 163 yds
    Troupe 4 rec 19 yds

    Kicking-
    Kimrin 4/4 fg 1/1 xp

    Returns-
    vg Qwiksand 126 yds

    Defense-
    Sirmon 9 tak
    Woolfolk 6 tak
    Bulluck 5 tak
    Goldberg 4 tak 2 sacks 1 ff
    Jones 2 int

Finally McNair has a good game and no ints. Adam Jones, our rookie CB, has really been stepping up. He has 5 ints in 7 games. Some of our players will be returning from injury soon.

Well McNair seems to be having some problems so Volek is probably going to get the next start. We have a bye in week 10 so the final decision will be made then.
