In an effort to save the Saints fans from seeing there team relocate, I took control of the franchise. I immediately put into action the building of a new stadium funded mostly by my own money. The city put up some and I maxed out the PSL (personal seat liscense) at 25 million. I simulated the first two seasons because I did not want to play in the old stadium. So here is a breakdown of the where I am at.
Year one I ended up drafting like 11th. The team did poorly due to the injury to Duece. I drafted Bing the safety out of USC with my #1 pick. Safety was not one of my greatest need areas, but he was the best player available. Somehow Hodge the MLB from Iowa fell to me in the 2nd. I then added Bobby Carpenter LB out of OSU in the 3rd round. I drafted for depth after that. I only added 1 big name free agent. Lavar Arrington. I debated on this for a minute but I felt it was a legit move since the Redskins very likely might drop him after this year. I aslo felt it was ok to take on the big salary because I let Howard DE go because I had 2 good young ends already. So my LB corp is totally revamped. I have Lavar and Carpenter outside and Hodge inside.
Year two also went poorly because Brooks got injured for most of the year. I ended up having the 6th pick, so I took Vince Young. Brooks never has taken the next step so I figured the time was now to land a true franchise QB. I added a good WR in the 2nd round. His name escapes me right now. I needed him because I elected not to re-sign Stallworth (who was an overall 83 and wanted big money).
So now I am ready to start season #3 in my new stadium. I sold the naming rights to some tech company that will pay me 12 million if I make the NFC championship game. Since I am like 170 million in the hole, I figured every dollar would help. The fan support is VERY low at the start. I am assuming this is because of the PSL thing and a crappy 2 year record. Hopefully winning will turn that around.
That's it so far. I will probably play every game this season and then combine simi and play after that. I don't really trade much or sign a lot of big name free agents because I like to build through the draft (also I am trying to act like I am in a money crunch so spending on free agents is frowned on except low end guys). I'll keep you posted on how it goes.
