    3-3-5 tested plays

    -sell out run defense-
    Overload Blitz (fliped)
    steps
    -fakeblitz (Triangle audible left)
(optional) bump and run the wide outs especialy the flanker to avoid the man coverage slip.
    - shift the saftey cover triangle right twice over the TE

    Important
Key as to most any 3 front play especilay this one is the DL Shift. It Varies, count the strong side and shift to the strong side then gap rush against that side into the meat of the offense. Sometimes the strong side is not over emphsised so a spread and stunt away from the TE will do plus it ups the heat factor a little but may give a yard or two more on dives.

Pass Pressure is about 3 out of 5 scale gives a constant outside rush from the Nickleback and OLB but is not nano esk and strangley those rusher rarely get pancaked too much when matched up instead shead or peal away after a short engauge. Most sacks from this play are cover sacks.

Coverage is about 2-3 out of 5 with variable man zone reads, it covers deep first and short crosses but leaves TE's and backs able to masacure your middle zones and especialy in the flats.

This play is primarly an above average run DF that doesnt sacrifice the deep ball and genraley contains and stuffs most runs based on personal but with a read and react flowing LB and penetration from a 5 man gap rush.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
    -Pure Coverage defense-
    3 man under (standard)

I run this play with a fake Blitz, and vary the play with the static function or Trinagle Aubible R2 but not always in fact rarely, but to do this gives the Offense more to think about.
When i dont I manualy bump the Wides and TE icons.

I pinch the DL for a interior run protection to force the play outside. The speed on the feild contains the play and the corners are rarely blocked in the default deep third coverage. The free saftey in deep third is me and he plays rover and basicaly stuffs every cut back attempt and covers middle slants to deep Inn.

Pressure is very little to none but with odd blitzes varyied from A gap and weakside i can easily up it a notch especialy by using by using personal not matched up on key offensive stars or personaly covering the new open man with the Free Saftey. A key is setting the Blitz away from potential blockers. The contain rusher forces happy feat QBs sometimes as his persuit is not obvious. On a whole its still alway un predictable.

Coverage in this play is a man to man with deep 3 which i love but there is a difference to the standard plays where man under uses safteys to cover deep and this play uses corners ... there are lots of Ints to be had on pesky corner routes.

The funtion of this play is give an odd coverage that is effective but not Givving up run which this play doesnt. Its not easy to run as like the passing but its simular in its effect is vs impatience rather than patience. Key is to get the offense off balance with presure first or follow this play up with pressure from a like set so the QB can not get comfortable against it. Also too much of the same thing in this series of plays is not the point. Its too match up with new stuff almost every down and never letting the QB figure out the adjustment.
    _________________________________________________

Figure out your own high pressure plays with these two plays ... im sure every one has used engage 8 or has a reasonable faxscimle of that type of thing and mix them in with these plays and you should do ok.
    Or Not.

    Good Stuff ^^^

Whenever I run the 3-3-5, my main plays for coverage have been the 2Deepman Under & Cover1 plays. When I run the 2DeepMan Under play, I usually always spread both my safeties zones so they cover their deep halves of the field better by pressing Triangle + UP on the R3 stick. Then I usually control the MLB and try to cover the middle of the field for INTs/double up on someone like the TE or I'll manually blitz him sometimes or fake the blitz and drop back just to keep the offense guessing. You can do plenty with that MLB. But the Cover1 play is really nice though because everyone is in man coverage, except the 2 OLBs & FS. The 2OLBs in hook zones are what really make this play because they provide deception as the offense doesn't know whether they will dropback or blitz or if one will dropback and the other blitz and vice versa. With the quick playmaker blitz feature for the OLBs, you can really keep the offense guessing. Those 2 OLBs can really help take away the middle of the field also when they do dropback and it can look very confusing. You can playmaker those OLBs to purple zones too if you wish to mix it up or if your getting beat by corner routes. You can get coverage sacks out of this play also, if the offense hotroutes or uses plays with slants since he might think your blitzing those 2OLBs, but little does he know their dropping back into the passing lanes of slants and such routes. Best to control the FS of course with this play since he's the only Deep zone.

Other than that, when I do use pure zones from 3-3-5, I'm usually blitzing atleast 5 and I usually always freeeze my defense. Also, lately when I've been running the Enage8 play, I quick playmaker all my LBs to dropback into hook zones (Yellow), playmaker the MLB to man up the HB if I feel he might throw to the flats to him, then I bring my SS down a bit closer to the LOS (but don't let him creep down since that will tip your coverage) and then I take control of the FS. With this setup it's a 5 man rush with the Nickelback and SS coming on outside blitzes. This setup can look confusing IMO and even better vs. spread set. Lots of variations of blitzes and coverages you can do with this Engage8 play.

    Thumbs up

Great to see posts like this. I agree that in the Nickle 3-3-5, shifting, spreading and pinching the D-line is extremely important depending on how the offense has setup. I use a similar philosophy to the original posters description when shifting to the strong side and manually blitzing the MLB through the gap on that side. Seems to get through untouched more often when the line engages just right with the shift.

The Cover1 works great for me when the offense has shown a tendancy to hit the flats often. I PM the OLB's to cover the flats and rove with the FS. If your OLB's have good hands and AWR, you should get alot of INT's until the offense adjusts.

Out think and adjust to your oppenent seems to be the key. I ahven't played online this year, but play in Leagues with my friends. Granted non of us are MC worthy Ballers, but we have a great time with Madden every year.

Yeah, yet another 3-3-5 thread, but so what. It's a good all around Defense and can be good vs. both the pass and run. I liked it better last year though because the Fake blitz shift helped out some blitzes and you could crash your D-line up, left or right and they would actually do it (not like this year) and this year if you fake blitz shift, your CBs get sucked in like idiots since they try to defend the run.

the funny thing is stokes sent the setup to my boy over a year ago, but it's not something for everyone, I took a look at it and just wasn't comfortable with it... Anyway, I'd love to lab with stokes or anyone else that runs that D, because i think there are too many holes in it.

    Good work!

More of this for those who want to contribute to the thread "Plays against man and zone".

Some of the plays are playbook specific... but lets share some of our plays. I already did. I have more. Just want to see what other guys do w/ their games.

Honestly i never used 3-3-5 but only because you all are bragging about it so i made a couple plays recently. Its cool with Denver because i get to use all my LBs in nickle ... Its good against the run but not as good as my 4-6.

Realy all it takes is like 30 mins of lab time to develop these plays ... I wish I could show you my A game plays but that will cost ya.
