The Cardinals special-teams coach noticed a flaw in Neil Rackers' technique a couple weeks ago. Perhaps a result of an injury suffered late last season. Conclusion: Rackers was inconsistent in his approach. He sometimes started too far away, especially on longer kicks, causing him to reach for the ball, pulling it wide.

The fact that Green Bay running back Ahman Green successfully completed another practice Thursday was seen as a strong indication that he will be able to finally play when the Packers take on Miami on Sunday.

Curtis Martin is supposed to start practicing in two or three weeks, but he may never step on the field again. In a 10-minute interview yesterday at his locker, Martin seemed conflicted on whether to resume his career.

Dolphins coach Nick Saban said Thursday that it was still open-ended when quarterback Daunte Culpepper will be ready to play again. Saban said Culpepper is "sore" from a rehabilitation program designed to accelerate his ongoing recovery from last October's knee surgery.

The Bengals are clearing the way for the return of running back Chris Perry. The Bengals waived tailback Quincy Wilson Thursday, opening the 53rd spot on the active roster.
Perry practiced Thursday for the second consecutive day but remained listed as questionable on the official injury report. He said he felt good.

Browns offensive coordinator Maurice Carthon has been under fire for his playcalling and the poor play of his unit. But coach Romeo Crennel said Carthon isn't going anywhere. "I'm not changing the offensive coordinator," he said.

Last year, Michael Pittman lobbied to play defensive back. Bucs coach Jon Gruden shot him down. With Cadillac Williams taking his starting tailback spot, Pittman wanted to do anything to be on the football field - including crossing over to the "dark side" to play defense.

Colts defensive tackle Corey Simons, placed on the team's non-football injury/illness list this month, is expected to file a grievance against the team with the NFL Players Association to try to get the remaining $1.9 million of his 2006 salary. The Colts felt he was healthy but just wasn't interested in playing.
