I. 4th down restrictions
A. First of all, there should be absolutely no restrictions on going for it on 4th and 1 or 4th and inches. This is something real coaches do all the time. Rather than force people to punt on 4th and inches from midfield, maybe EA should create some defensive plays that are more effective in those situations. I like the change overall, but I don't think you should be able to do this. Reason being dub, I understand coaches go for it, but not all the time. Plus, how many times is "insert impact running back/quarterback here" in the zone on these 4th and 1 situations? What I will say is, I think that you should be allowed to go for it on 4th and 1 or less when you're inside your opponents 40. I think all coaches in real life are more perceptive to go for it given the chances of kicking a fg or the net punt (20 yards).
B. There should be no restrictions whatsoever on going for it on 4th down if you're past midfield. The way it is now, I could be at my opponent's 38 facing a 4th & 4, and unless I have one of the top kickers, I'll be forced to punt. That I'll agree with as well. See above answer
C. Why in the hell are we prohibited from calling some actual punts on 4th down??? EA introduces these new fake punt plays for 07, but they end up being completely worthless, because 99% of the time, we can't even call the corresponding real punt play from the same formation! What's that all about? Not sure on this one. Maybe this was done because of how people would abuse it. I dunno.
II. No huddle
Once again, I applaud EA's efforts to stifle cheesy play, but rather than actually fix the problem, they've put in an unrealistic "solution." The actual fix for this problem is, of course, to make the offense tire at the same rate or faster than the defense. Instead, they just give us BS false starts if you try to run no-huddle.
I was playing a game last night, and I was down 28-18 with 2:10 left in the game and I got a false start for running no huddle. That's just retarded. Simply setting the limit at 2:00 left in the half or game is not a viable solution. Either fix the fatigue problem, or at least make a graduating scale that allows you to run no huddle earlier if you're down by 2 or more scores. That I'll agree with as well. Better yet, let us be able to run a no huddle offense, but use the same setup that's currently in place (false start) on plays where the clock stops (such as an incompletion or someone runs out of bounds). I still think the offense should get just as tired as the defense though.
III. Onside kicks
Basically the same problem as no huddle. I could be down by 21 points with 3 minutes left in the game, and it won't let me onside kick. Sure, it'd be annoying if people could onside kick whenever they felt like it, but at least give us a chance to come back. I'd say onside kicks should be legal at any time in the 4th quarter as long as you're behind. That I'll agree with as well.
