    New Years / AU-NEB

This thread can be for New Years or to discuss the Auburn - Nebraska game that kicks off at 10am central.

so .. What did you do for the new years?

I went with my fiance and her cousin to Mobile Bay and watched the fireworks, then went to a club. Nothing that exciting, but it was fun. It's now 4 in the morning and I have to be up at 10 to watch the game.

BTW, for those of you that actually might watch the AU-NEB game New Year's morning, Sgt. Hartman (ChadSimmons) and I have a interesting bet going. If Auburn wins (which they will), I get to design his signature for the month of January. If NEB somehow wins, the opposite will happen.

I was curious why the tickets for this game were basically being given away. I couldn't understand why they wouldn't want to see this game. Hmm...

As for me I didn't do anything for New Years except crash early. I'm still trying to rest up for all those other New Years.

Bet with Sgt. Heartman, eh? I might just have to PM him. Hehe.

I think Auburn has more talent, but I don't know how healthy Cox is. Also, it's an early game and it will depend on how many points Nebraska can put up before Auburn wakes up. Nebraska will probably stumble out of the gates and allow the Aubies to win it in the second half.

I know I say this every game, but I hate our defensive coordinator. Nebraska was 4-4 on 3rd downs on their opening TD drive because the only defense we know how to play is rush 7 hard with 4 back in single man-to-man coverage.

That INT return might have just saved this game (and yes I'm saying that in the 1st quarter because AU loses confidence fast if they get down early).

    TD Auburn. Nice play-action.

You all act like Nick Satan is going to be better than Shula. I hate to tell you, but he isn't. Jimbo Fisher and Bo Pellini made him at LSU.

    Half: 14-14

It's getting intense. Auburn is looking ugly as usual, but there is still a whole half to turn things around.

Question: Why does Cox, a lefty, keep turning his shoulders toward the right? There is no point and it causes him to be in a postion not to be able to get the ball orff when being rushed. That is like Miss. St. having a righty, yet constatnly calling PA's to the left which required him to make very awkward cross-body throws.

It was a good game........ Nebraska lived up to its billing the last several games -- start well and just look like sh*t in the second half. Callahan calling the fake punt on our own 20 probably ultimately decided that game. The defense actually played pretty well.

The thing that really boggles me about Nebraska is the fact that they landed the top kicking recruit in the country a couple of years ago but for some reason he can't be trusted to kick the ball past 40 yards. His career long is 40. Lastly, I don't know what to make of the fact that in some key situations Callahan won't put the game in the hands of the Big Twelve offensive player of the year -- NU QB Zach Taylor. He would rather try to out gimmick the other team than let his players make plays. Like he wants to prove how much smarter he is than everyone else........

Avenge, I await your sig and BTW the whole war eagle story is stupid IMO

Cally knows Zac Taylor is no playmaker. He also knows Taylor isn't the best QB on your roster. I'm excited to see Keller run that offense next year. Kinda sad how some Husker fans are calling for Callahan's head now. They have clearly improved every season since he took over. Nice to see you don't resort to that garbage SGT. Auburn saved some face for the SEC today.

The overhaul that is happening can be likened to jamming a Ferrari engine into a tractor, and it is going to take time to get the players he wants in there and turn it into a contender. This is different than most other teams learning a new system because the days of the triple option oriented offense in D-1 are over just like the wishbone based O has gone bye-bye -- it is like trying to learn rocket science when you haven't even finished high school LOL -- the systems are night and day. Cally if given time to get his guys will turn it around. A recruiting class nearing the top 5 in the nation for next year out to help. If you want to recruit the best athletes and compete against the best athletes these days you have to have an offense that can get these guys to the pros.

I'm a realist about the situation, and know that if you want to change the entire culture of the program it is not a 2 or even 3 year turnaround. BC will need 4 to 5 years to get this train moving in the right direction.

The only thing I worry about with BC is that he reminds me of Mike Martz the way he is probably too smart sometimes and it can haunt you.

Not to mention in your transition seasons you won the Big 12 North, Beat Michigan in the Alamo, and just played in a January 1st bowl game. Lots of teams would take that on a normal basis.

The only reason those days are over is because NU's administration decided to fire a guy who had been EXTREMELY successful in Solich. That may have been one of the dumbest moves in the history of coaching hiring and firing. I used to LOVE watching Nebraska play, because they were unique in that they were the only major college team that you knew would line up and bludgeon the other team into submission. And they were going to win 80+% of the time, sometimes more. Now, with this stupid shifting New York Giants offense Callahan runs, there is nothing special or different about Nebraska. They are just like all of the other teams out there running a vanilla variation of the "West Coast Offense," and putting me to sleep in the process. You say that in order to recruit athletes, you have to run a pro-style offense. I disagree. Look at all the RB's and O-Linemen from Nebraska who Tom Osborne coached into the NFL. And don't say, "that was then, this is now" because the option is a timeless offense, and if it worked for Osborne, it would still be working today if Solich was still there. It forces the defense to play assignment football, and today's defenses are not disciplined enough to do that for 60 minutes.

I agree to a certain extent -- Solich did a good job with Osborne's players. It was a glorious run, but I stand by the fact that we usually could get the guys we wanted to run that style offense. A lot of those guys were home grown, but in todays age, assignment football or not -- there is too much speed out there to make a living in D-1 running the option. At Nebraska it's all about crystal trophies....... if changing to the WCO gets us there then I will support it.
