All they do is instill fear into neighborhoods . I'm kinda pissed that the city didn't step up and man the streets to take them out instead of doing the following - street gangs win again:
Reno, NV - This year’s 21st birthday party for Hot August Nights, Northern Nevada’s largest special event, will end early in downtown Reno.
Organizers said today there will be no activity, including the traditional classic car cruise, on Reno streets the last night of the event.
This year’s Hot August Nights, the 21st annual, starts Aug. 3 and ends Aug. 12, with a Sunday morning car parade through downtown Reno. The 10-day event featuring cars and music from the 1950s and ‘60s, attracts a total crowd of more than 80,000 for all activities.
“There will not be anything in the streets of Reno on Saturday night,” said Bruce Walter, executive director of Hot August Nights. “That’s the decision the city fathers made and we’ll just abide by it.”
Reno Mayor Bob Cashell said the decision is the result of increased presence of gang members, many from Northern California, in downtown Reno on the last Saturday of Hot August Nights.
“We had problems last year,” Cashell said. “Nothing broke out, but it really got ugly looking.” Hot August Nights activity on Saturday will stop at 6 p.m., Cashell said.
It's really sad to see city officials being so afraid that the gangs determine how our local weekend events go. I'm so pissed... i may have to outfit my Mustang GT with those turret guns sooner than i wanted to.
